    That shift left him with a surprising amount of free time. He finally had time to be present—with his family, and with himself.

    One afternoon, after spending a rxing day with them, he got a message from Felipe: “Freya and Ellis are getting married in a few days. It’s just a small, private ceremony with only their closest people.”

    Kristian typed out a quick response. “Got it.” He hit send and ced his phone aside.

    As for Freya, she and Ellis were currently leafing through their freshly delivered photos.

    Freya stared at them for a long while before making her observation, “You look better than I do, if I’m being honest.”

    “Do me a favor and leave out thatst part.”

    Freya didn’t answer. She was now absolutely sure that Ellis was, without question, the most narcissistic person she knew.

    “What’s the matter? Feeling insecure now that you’ve realized I’m better looking?” Ellis teased, deadpan.

    “Have you ever heard this saying online?”

    “What is it?”

    “In love, everyone is beautiful.”

    “And what exactly are you trying to prove?”

    “When you love someone, everything about them looks good. Even if you were hideous, I’d still think you’re handsome,” Freya said with a straight face.

    Ellis wasn’t buying it. “Seriously?”

    “Of course.”

    “You forgetting who’s always had a thing for good looks?” She couldn’t argue with that.

    Clutching the photos to her chest, she dered, “Fine, I’ll just keep these for myself. You can go take your own solo shots if you want.”

    “Alright.” There was a peculiar lilt in his voice.

    “I said I’m keeping the photos for myself,” Freya repeated, making sure to spell it out.

    “I heard you.”

    “Want me to get you a box to store them?”

    Freya’s usuallyposed expression flickered in disbelief. Was this Ellis falling out of love?

    “These are our photos,” she reminded him, her voice more serious now.

    Ellis looked her squarely in the eye, clearly picking up on the unspoken words behind her question. “I know.”
