CHAPTER 38: CHAPTER 38: A PAIR OF CLOWNS

The young man standing to the left had a baby face. When Xia Mian greeted them, his originally expressionless face immediately filled with a smile, "Miss Xia, there’s no need to be polite, this is what we should do!"

Their young master has rarely cared for a woman over the years, so this woman is as precious as his eyes. They were sent here to take care and protect the future young lady! We’re like family; let’s not speak like outsiders.

Xia Mian smiled faintly, "The room on the first floor is yours; you can go and rest. Our home’s security is quite good; there’s no need for night watches. You don’t need to be so reserved in my house."

The baby-faced man smiled even more brightly, "Miss Xia, you don’t have to worry; we’ll treat this place as our second home."

As soon as he finished speaking, the man standing to the right glared at him, "Hu Lai!"

Xia Mian couldn’t help but grin, "It’s okay, he’s right, it’s not nonsense."

"No, Miss Xia, I mean to say, his name is Hu Lai." The man on the right awkwardly scratched his head, "My name is Hu Yuan, his name is Hu Lai. We’re brothers; just introducing ourselves. If you need anything, feel free to let us know."

Xia Mian glanced at Hu Yuan; he didn’t look much like Hu Lai. One looked simple-minded; the other seemed mature and steady.

"Miss Xia, it’s late, you should go rest!" Hu Yuan smiled warmly.

"You don’t need to keep watching over; rest when you need to." Xia Mian reminded again before returning to the room with Song Juan.

In the hospital, the Ji Family’s second house was sitting outside the emergency room. Ji Changxing’s face was grave, and his wife Mu Keying was full of worry.

A girl with dreadlocks, chewing bubble gum, lazily glanced at the emergency room, "You guys being here is enough, I’m heading back first."

Mu Keying suddenly stood up and slapped the girl on the face, "You have the nerve to go back? If it weren’t for you today, how would your brother have gotten into a car accident?"

Ji Ling was slapped, and her mouth immediately filled with a metallic taste, but she indifferently licked the inside of her mouth and casually curled her lips, "He insisted on coming to find me; what does this have to do with me?"

As she said this, Ji Ling turned around and walked away.

Mu Keying’s face turned livid as she collapsed back onto the bench, "Oh, what a sin! How did I end up giving birth to such a thing?"

Ji Changxing patted Mu Keying’s back to soothe her while comforting, "Hua Zi is still being rescued. As for Ah Ling’s matter, we’ll deal with it later."

Mu Keying sighed in defeat, covering her face with her hand, silently crying.

Now, she only hoped Ji Hua could come out of the rescue room safe and sound. As for Ji Ling... let her be!

Ji Hua had a long dream, in which he seemingly met a young and beautiful girl who told him to go back, and hurry back!

Ji Hua woke up confused and found himself lying on a hospital bed, surrounded by his parents.

"Hua Zi, you’re finally awake!" Mu Keying came forward and grabbed Ji Hua’s hand, crying with teary eyes, "What happened? How did such a good situation turn into a car accident?"

Ji Hua frowned; his memory of the car accident was hazy.

"Car accident?" Ji Hua asked suspiciously, "I was in a car accident?"

Ji Changxing was stunned for a moment, "Ayin, go call the doctor! Your son has lost his mind!"

What happened just yesterday, and now he’s already forgotten?

Mu Keying paused for a moment, her face darkened, "Your son is the one who’s lost his mind!"

On the hospital bed, Ji Hua touched his forehead; were his crazy parents letting loose now that he was awake?

"Mom, I’m hungry." Ji Hua lay hopelessly on the bed, his memories from last night already faint.

However, his body was honest; an empty stomach was unbearably burning.

Mu Keying hurriedly responded, "Wait a moment, I’ll find something for you to eat."

Mu Keying kicked Ji Changxing, "Go and get food for your son!"

Ji Changxing didn’t mind being kicked and happily went off to find food for Mu Keying and their son.

Ji Hua lay on the bed, and once he was awake, the pain on his face became so real, "Mom, did I ruin my face?"

Mu Keying looked Ji Hua up and down with disdain, "What face do you have to ruin? You’re a disappointment to your parents!"

Ji Hua felt a little heartbroken at the criticism, "Mom, am I your biological son?"

Mu Keying pondered for two seconds, "Your suspicion is not without reason. We should let your dad seriously investigate whether we got the wrong baby back then."

Ji Hua couldn’t be bothered to speak, reaching for his phone on the bedside table.

Staring at the bright screen, Ji Hua finally saw his own face.

"Mom... What’s wrong with my nose?" Ji Hua’s voice trembled. Despite his mom’s criticisms about his looks, he cared deeply about his face!

In times of danger, the first instinct was to protect his face.

"Probably your nasal bridge is broken!" Mu Keying didn’t hide anything, "It’s strange, though: your car turned to ashes, and yet none of your bones broke, except your nasal bridge. Did your face hit the ground when someone dragged you out?"

Suddenly, Mu Keying slapped her forehead, "My memory! You’re alive today thanks to someone saving you last night. Since you’re awake, we need to visit your saviors to thank them!"

Ji Changxing happened to return with the food, placing it by Ji Hua’s bed, "Eat up!"

His tone and attitude were just like a dog’s.

"Eat while your dad and I step out!" Mu Keying said, pulling Ji Changxing out.

Ji Hua sat up in bed, looking at the ceiling. Was he really their biological child? He had to be, right?

Why did his parents abandon him right after he woke up?

After three seconds of sadness, Ji Hua turned his sorrow into appetite and finished a table full of food.

Before heading out, Ji Changxing and Mu Keying made sure to ask the policemen who brought Ji Hua to the hospital who had saved him.

Once they learned it was the heir of the Lu Family and Miss Song from the Song Family, Ji Changxing quickly decided to visit the Song Family first after a brief consideration.

After all, the heir from the Lu Family is famously work-obsessed; disturbing him now would be very inappropriate.

When Ji Changxing and Mu Keying arrived at the Song residence, Xia Mian had just returned from jogging.

As soon as she spotted a luxury car parked in front of her house, and a couple standing by the entrance.

Wiping her sweat with a towel around her neck, Xia Mian approached and asked, "Who are you looking for?"

Mu Keying brightened upon seeing Xia Mian, "We’re looking for you!"

Xia Mian’s brows furrowed slightly, guessing the situation, "Are you Ji Hua’s family?"

Mu Keying nodded quickly, "Miss Xia, thanks to your courageous action yesterday, otherwise our Hua Zi would have died young!"

The couple before her had an imposing presence, clearly not from a regular family.

Xia Mian realized that Ji Hua was indeed from one of the four major families, the Ji Family.
