CHAPTER 1627: EPIDEMIC? (2)

When we arrived, there was this strange smell that was in the air.

This was the kind of smell that seemed like there was something that was rotten.

But at the same time, it didn’t seem like the normal smell that would come from something rotten. It was almost as if there was something strange and familiar about this scent...

The right minister stopped after we arrived at this place and turned around to ask, "How do you want to do this?"

This kind of place was quarantined for a reason to prevent the disease from spreading to others. So for that to work, it required these people to have as little contact as possible with others.

Letting us in to see the ones that had been quarantined was already considered a large concession.

After all, the smarter thing was to bring one of the people that were quarantined out for us to look over. That would keep the degree of possible contamination as low as possible.

But there was something that was different about bringing them out.

It was that they would be in a different environment and things could change.

So it was better to view them when they were all gathered here like this.

After considering it, it was Puffer, me, and one of the gnomes that went in.

It should have just been Puffer and the gnome that went in, but I couldn’t help feeling that there was something off about all of this. That was why I wanted to see the people that were ill with my own eyes to confirm something.

Once that was decided on, the door opened for us to enter.

The living conditions inside of the warehouse were quite bad, but they did what they could to keep the people inside as safe as possible. At the same time, it seemed that these people were trying to make the best of it.

When they saw us, they had strange looks on their faces.

But seeing the demi human that came with us, they seemed to calm down.

The one that came with us was the one that normally took care of them, so he had built a bond with these patients. That was why they were willing to trust us even though we had never met before.

Once we came in, the first thing that I did was raise the scarf that was in my hand.

I had asked for this scarf back from Ariel, not because I didn’t trust her, but because this scarf was very useful in this situation. After all, the ability that the divine energy mist possessed was to purify.

That was why I created this layer of mist around us.

Neither the gnome or Puffer seemed to notice this as they immediately started heading towards the patients. I had to make sure that the mist surrounded them while also having the mist avoid the patients.

If the mist came too close, then it might purify the germs that were in them.

Using divine energy to cure everyone wasn’t a solution after all since there wouldn’t be enough people that could use divine energy to purify to cure everyone. At the same time, there was no telling if this disease would come back again, so it wasn’t as if we could stay here forever.

That was why it was best if this disease could be cured with medicine and science.

But as the gnome and Puffer looked at the demi humans in front of them, they couldn’t help revealing a stumped look.

There was a long silence that followed before they started running tests.

The gnome brought out some potions for the demi humans, but he didn’t request them to drink them. Instead, he asked them to put some of their spit into these potions with wooden sticks.

As for Puffer, she just directly took out some kind of lens and started looking closely at the demi humans.

The demi humans were naturally put off when they heard this and they looked at their caretaker as if they were waiting for confirmation. It was just that the caretaker didn’t know what was happening either, so he looked at me for confirmation.

To be honest, I didn’t have an idea of what was happening either since I had no idea what they were doing, but still...

I just gave a simple nod in response.

At that, the caretaker went on to comfort the patients to allow them to follow the instructions.

The demi humans couldn’t help looking a bit worried when they heard this, but I gave a nod in the end since I could see the look in their eyes.

When we went to the side, the two of them suddenly said, "There’s nothing wrong with them."

"What do you mean?" I couldn’t help asking in a confused voice.

After all, I could see them manifesting physical symptoms. At the same time, we had already heard about people dying from this illness in other parts of the Mofu Mofu Kingdom. It was all a part of the report that we had received from the right minister earlier.

With all of these signs, there was no way that there would be nothing.

Only it didn’t seem like Puffer or the gnome were about to change what they said.

"Or at least there’s no signs that we can detect, so it might not be biological." Puffer added at the end.

When she said this, my brain couldn’t help turning.

Eventually, I turned back to look at the demi human patients that were still looking at us with worried looks on their faces.

But instead of focusing on their expressions, I was focused on the sensation that was coming from them.

From the very beginning, I had felt that there was something off about the sensation that they gave off. Now that I was taking the time to look them over, I felt that there was something familiar about that sensation that they gave me.

After a moment of silence, I stepped forward and waved my hand at them.

The demi human patients looked confused when they saw this, so I said, "Can you all spread out for me? There’s something that I want to test."

There were even more worried looks that appeared on their faces, but they still followed my instructions.

Raising the scarf, I created a layer of mist around one of the patients.

In no time at all, the symptoms that they had been demonstrating completely disappeared. But as I was looking at them, I couldn’t help revealing a strange look on my face.

That was because the sensation that came from them was different.

It was different from if I had purified the germs that had been causing them to be sick. Rather, it was as if there was some kind of energy that was inside of them that had been causing them to be sick.

"I’m cured?" The patient said in a confused voice as he looked down at his own body.

The others all looked at him in awe and confusion as they watched him test out his body as if he was making sure that he was fine. But after a while, it seemed like there really wasn’t a single problem with him.

"Please cure me as well!"

Once they saw that I had cured one of them, they immediately started asking me to cure the rest of them as well. Only I didn’t raise the scarf to use the mist on them, I instead turned as if I was going to walk away.

The caretaker stepped forward to stop me when he saw this, but I said, "Even if I can cure one person, it doesn’t mean that I can cure everyone on my own. That was a test to see what the cause of the illness is and I need them to hold on a bit longer so we can run some more tests."

Though he seemed like he didn’t want to agree with this, he stopped the patients in the end.

I said to Puffer and the gnome, "We need to call some of the priests over."
