CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: WHOLESALE OF 3 SKEWERS FIRST

Yu Xia was calm; She handed the remaining five dollars to Xie Qingci and Wei Yaoyao, her tone steady:

"Don’t worry about me, buy yourselves some water. It’s better for one person to die of thirst than for all three of us."

Wei Yaoyao hesitated to take the money, but after receiving it, she paid for two bottles of water and tried to take a third bottle, only to have her hand held back.

At that moment, Yu Xia, who had been calm, suddenly grabbed the bottle from Xie Qingci’s hand and ran off.

The uncle and Wei Yaoyao were shocked; neither expected her to act like this. By the time they reacted, she had already run dozens of meters.

The uncle hurriedly chased after her, leaving the yoke behind.

Wei Yaoyao craned her neck to watch them, while Xie Qingci bent down and took another bottle from the yoke, twisting it open and gulping down two mouthfuls.

His jawline tightened, his Adam’s apple quickly sliding, and after a few gulps, half the bottle was gone.

Wei Yaoyao, feeling thirsty from watching, opened a bottle herself to take a few sips, then asked him, "Do you think he can catch up? Even if Yu Xia drinks halfway, he won’t manage, right?"

Xie Qingci raised an eyebrow, "Not necessarily."

A few minutes later, Yu Xia came back.

Dejected, with a wordless cold smile.

Wei Yaoyao asked curiously, "Sis, what’s this about...?"

She replied irritably, "I was escorted back by a bunch of ’chivalrous’ NPCs before I could even open the bottle cap."

She’s really annoyed, reasonably suspecting that the program crew arranged all the off-duty NPCs to block her.

She hadn’t even run a hundred meters before three people on bicycles caught up! Someone even had a rolling pin to corner her, as if capturing a notorious flower thief.

Heavens above! She only took a bottle of mineral water!

Xie Qingci laughed quietly, earning a glare from Yu Xia.

He cleared his throat and suggested, "How about we check the prop cards again? Maybe there’s one specifically to counteract this unlucky card?"

Yu Xia’s eyes lit up.

Xie Qingci added, "But the prop cards here shouldn’t change, so we can look at the cabinets in other areas."

It made sense, and Yu Xia and Wei Yaoyao nodded eagerly.

So they bid farewell to the NPCs here and strolled back to the square.

"Which area to go?", Xie Qingci asked.

Yu Xia thought for a moment, "You guys are roommates with Ning Yunchao, right? Let’s go to their area."

That was the ancient southeast area. Walking in, they were greeted by ornately carved wooden buildings, NPCs in ancient costumes coming and going, chatting among themselves.

Yu Xia and Wei Yaoyao, like rural bumpkins who hadn’t seen the world, let out a "Wow."

"There’s even a stall set up!"

A wide street in the middle, flanked by a few stalls set up as background props, NPCs buying and eating things from the stalls.

Sugar-coated haws.

Yu Xia pulled out the remaining three dollars, flamboyantly waving it, making a rustling sound.

"Now the money is ours, go buy!"

That posture, as if holding not three dollars but three million, buying not sugar-coated haws but a luxury mansion.

Wei Yaoyao’s gaze followed the money for a second, asking, "But can we buy a bunch for three dollars? How many are in one bunch, can we divide it into three equal parts?"

Yu Xia guffawed, "Why do you lack confidence? I’m planning to get three bunches for three dollars."

"...Really won’t get scolded by the haw seller?"

"What’s to fear? If they scold, let them, as long as we get to eat."

Wei Yaoyao felt it was crooked reasoning, looked at Xie Qingci hoping to get the right values from him.

Unexpectedly, Xie Qingci didn’t care about the price issue, only asking Yu Xia, "But what if you can’t eat it, what do we do then?"

Yu Xia was wholeheartedly focused on the stall, responding, "You guys hold onto it, once we find the prop card to counter this unlucky card, I can eat it."

Saying this, she started bargaining with the stall owner.

"What’s the wholesale price for these sugar-coated haws per bunch?"

Owner: "...We don’t sell."

"All unwillingness is due to lack of funds; we’re here to wholesale, once sold you can get off work. So, what’s the price?"

The stall owner was slightly swayed: "Well, for wholesale, it’s two dollars per bunch for over ten bunches."

Yu Xia shouted great, slapping three dollars in front of the owner.

"Wholesale three bunches first!"

The owner’s eyes looked at her differently now.

"Three bunches also count as wholesale? And didn’t you hear clearly, over ten bunches is two dollars each."

Yu Xia, like the second uncle at the village entrance: "Well, I didn’t quite reach ten bunches."

Owner:...Dammit, something seems off here.

Wei Yaoyao already took three bunches from the straw next to her, planned to hand one to Xie Qingci while holding the other two herself, to avoid another NPC popping up to snatch the goods.

But when handed over, Xie Qingci extended his hand to take the remaining two bunches.

He added, "Try it and see if it’s tasty, if not, we can return it on the spot."

Ignoring the owner’s dark face, Wei Yaoyao found his reasoning quite sensible.

Thus, he accepting two bunches of sugar haws seemed perfectly normal.

So Wei Yaoyao joyfully began eating the sugar haws, mumbling with a thumbs-up to Xie Qingci, expressing satisfaction with these haws.

Xie Qingci, uninterested, holding the remaining two bunches, followed Yu Xia onward.

Yu Xia wasn’t planning to find Shu Ran and them, it would easily be seen as trying to hog the limelight.

She directly asked a few seemingly significant NPCs: "Have you seen a glass cabinet? The one with cards inside."

After asking several people, finally got a direction.

"Seems there’s one at the entrance of the Chen Family Mansion."

The three excitedly headed to the Chen Family Mansion, only to see one as they reached the door.

Guarding the display cabinet was an old gentleman, like a housekeeper, with keys dangling at his waist, nearly touching the ground, causing his belt to sag downwards.

Yu Xia, having her shopping desire ignited by that three dollars, now with hands behind her back, leisurely pacing before the display cabinet assessing, then opening like a senior conversing at length:

"How much per pound for these cards in your house?"

Xie Qingci & Wei Yaoyao: "..."

Old gentleman: "Market’s bad today, you’ve come just in time, price dropped three minutes ago, nine points for whole package, you want it?"

"...Can I buy on credit? Or I make a membership card, get a discount, and take everything here."

The old gentleman chuckled: "Wishful thinking."

Bargaining failed, the three could only just honestly examine the prop cards.

Wei Yaoyao asked, "Should we spend a point to see the value first?"

"No," Xie Qingci’s gaze inspected the differently colored prop cards, "Doesn’t really matter. Directly choose, too expensive I can’t afford, it would auto-reset us to choose again."

"Then, what if we choose too cheaply?"

"Then all I can do is wish good luck to Yu Xia."

Wei Yaoyao: Is this an actress, whatever learned, exactly like it, makes me want to transform into the sugar-haws owner and give her a couple of chunks.
