Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon
Chapter 865 - 862: Third Night Begins
CHAPTER 865: 862: THIRD NIGHT BEGINS
What he came to realize was that in terms of space, time, and the void, his Tri-Pupil Eyes were vastly superior to his Eyes of Omniscience.
Unlike his Eyes of Omniscience which specialized mainly in seeing ’everything’ in an unfiltered manner, his Tri-Pupil Eyes were more focused on space, time, and the void.
They could show him more and noticed more things about space, time, and the void.
Also, his Tri-Pupil Eyes could prevent him from seeing things that should not be seen.
He could clearly remember what happened when he first tried to teleport and how he was teleported to an unknown place that almost killed him.
Because of his Eyes of Omniscience which allowed him to see things he was not meant to see, he almost died.
His Tri-Pupil Eyes was able to prevent him from seeing these things while also protecting his eyes from the damage that would have happened to his eyes just from gazing in the direction of the entities that almost devoured him.
That was an experience Corey would never forget, and it is as why he switched to his Tri-Pupil Eyes most of the times whenever he teleported.
The second time where he almost lost his life was while he was using Lightning Movement Art.
He passed by a cracked statue of a woman holding a fractured book, and the statue suddenly opened its mouth. A roar chased after him, and Corey knew that the power in the sound wave was enough to cause severe injuries to his soul.
Cosmic Soul or not.
Fortunately for him, he was able to dodge the attack with his Tri-Pupil Eyes. It missed him by a breath.
But it was close.
Too close.
He moved faster after that because the Night could come at any time.
’The Third Night.’ Corey looked up with a frown.
If possible, he didn’t want to experience another Night at all.
He didn’t know what it would bring. But if the Second Night had produced the creature that pretended to be Yara’s sister, then what would the Third Night bring?
He didn’t want to find out.
’I encountered a Tier 6 during the Day, who knows what I’ll encounter during the Night...’
’... And the Rule of Taking.’
A solemn light flashed in his eyes, and he increased the output of the mana he was pouring into his Lightning Movement Art.
He darted across bridges that extended over seas of ash.
He passed plazas where hundreds of humanoid statues without heads knelt with their foreheads pressed to the floor.
The sight made him recall the carvings he saw on the wall. But he didn’t stop moving for even a single second.
He moved past crumbling old towers that leaned on nothing but their will, and he passed buildings that had no doors, no windows- just the sound of something breathing inside which he could hear with his Ears of Omniscience.
He saw these things.
And more.
With his Eyes of Omniscience, he saw the invisible threads of residual death energy that curled around every object. He saw the echoes of the past, ghosts caught in loops as they relived the last moments of their lives.
One man sat at a table in a ruined tavern, raising an empty cup to his lips over and over again.
A woman continued washing blood from her hands in a broken fountain, though there was no water and no blood.
A child laughed as he ran, chased by something Corey couldn’t see. He entered a dark alley, and soon the child’s laughter turned into a scream.
Despite seeing all of these, he continued moving at the fastest speed he could muster in his current environment.
’I can feel it. I’m getting closer to the center of the city.’
Just as Corey had this thought, the buildings began to change.
They grew taller, larger, and most especially... stranger. Some were cracked mansions built from bones and stone. Others were libraries without books, halls without walls, only old broken pillars that emitted wails and laughter simultaneously.
Barely a minute passed after Corey began noticing these changes, and then... the sky changed.
It was sudden.
The red glow that had painted the world like an endless sunset vanished. The red stars in the sky were put out one by one.
The Dying City became much colder, most especially where Corey was.
Cold mist could be seen from his lips as he exhaled. Also, a dense fog began to appear from the ground in the area where Corey was.
Corey could feel the tremendous change in the concentration of death energy that was present all around.
It was five times as dense as what he and the Thirteenth Dawn experienced on the Second Night.
A soft sound that was like the tearing of a curtain echoed across the sky. Then the darkness came and it fell like a tide.
The Third Night had come.
Corey stopped and looked up.
’It seems I’ve truly crossed a threshold in the city.’
He looked in the distance, but the thick fog around him could not allow his Eyes of Omniscience to peer through more than a hundred meters from him.
Unless he decided to increase its output.
He exhaled softly, causing a white mist to escape his lips. He glanced at it for a second, observed it, and then he turned to his left.
He saw a building that was similar to a mall having a glowing inverted triangle above the door.
He took a step forward and was about to teleport to the distance, but his expression drastically changed when he felt his instincts warn him about doing this.
He frowned, and then he ran to the mall. Just as he stood in front of the door, a bell rang and Corey frowned deeply.
He looked in the distance, but it was beyond the reach of his vision.
And then... a system screen appeared before him.
