CHAPTER 869: 866: THE THIRD NIGHT (4)
After the disappearance of the ghostly baby arms, Corey remained where he stood without moving.
His gaze was entirely on the spot where the ghostly baby arms disappeared, and he did not shift his gaze for at least five seconds.
Blood streaked down the corner of his lips and nose, and then it trickled down his chin before falling on the ground.
He glanced at his dark grey blood, and then he wiped the blood of his lips with the back of his hand before pressing the side of his nose and sneezing the blood in it away.
Sigh
He released a soft sigh, and then he looked around with a calm expression.
His constricted pupils slowly went back to normal, and he staggered slightly while holding his head.
Being in a state where he would most likely have been able to see the movements of a low-level Tier 7 placed an unfathomable amount of strain on his mind.
In fact, if another thirty seconds passed and he remained in such a state, he would have reached a point of no return.
And the chances of him being a corpse was very high.
Corey shook his head slightly as he tried to shrug off the effects of the hyper-focused state.
A few moments later, he exhaled softly once again, and the veins on his head retreated at a visible speed.
He took a step forward and calmly fell to the ground below.
His feet made no sound as he fell on the ground without even bending his body. The wind carried him, and without taking a pause, he approached Myra who was laying on the ground without moving a single muscle.
Making it seem like she was a corpse in the distance.
He stood before her, and her face which was filled with tears, despair, pain, and an unwillingness to keep on living was reflected in his violet-blue eyes.
Although she was staring directly at him, she could not see him because of the veil of illusion he had placed around her.
All she could see apart from her body was darkness, and she would have been panicking because of the darkness if not for the shocking loss of her Mystic Mana Core.
Corey tilted his head slightly with an indifferent expression, and then he crouched and touched her head.
He raised a brow and hummed softly. ’She really can’t feel anything. She can’t even feel me touching her and she can also not feel the ground at all... I wonder... How does it feel for her?’
A flash of curiosity appeared in his eyes for a brief second, and then he shook his head softly.
He activated Cognitum Erasure and went through her memories to make sure there was no iota of his presence in her memory.
A few seconds later, he nodded.
’Good. Nothing.’
Although he found nothing, what he found was immense hate that was being directed at the system trial and him.
He was not surprised when he saw scenes of her imagining killing him in the worst way possible in the depths of her memory.
Why?
Because he had sensed malicious intent which was being directed at him from her when he was still with the Thirteenth Dawn.
That was the exact reason he chose to use her to save his life.
From the moment he knocked every member of the Thirteenth Dawn and went through their memories after his battle with Eidolon, he had marked every single one of them by placing a void rune on them which could track them, teleport them to his side, and be used as a point of destination for his teleportation.
He could have targeted any one of them, and his original target had been Rhys, but after thinking about Myra displayed hidden hostility toward him... He chose her.
As for the ghostly infant arms, he had not been certain if using Myra to take the fall for him would have worked, but it was a part of his plans.
If it had not worked, he would have tried several other methods because out of everything that was present in the system trial that irked him the wrong way and sent a chill into the depths of his heart and soul, the ghostly baby arms took the top spot.
He could still feel his missing tongue, and it was extremely unnerving.
He nonchalantly waved his right hand, and he sent Myra back to her allies.
As for the commotion it would cause and the reaction the entire group would have, he did not care.
His goal was to reach the main source of the corruption before the next nightfall.
He stood, and then he looked around with a calm and indifferent expression.
The world around him was extremely silent, and the thick fog around him remained.
Because he had been running away from the ghostly infant arms, he had not only moved far away from the safehouse he found the moment the Third Night appeared, he had gone deeper into the city.
’I can’t see as far with my Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares compared to my Eyes of Omniscience, but I can see enough.’
Corey looked around, and his eyes flashed. He saw a nearby building with the inverted triangle, and he narrowed his eyes slightly in suspicion.
He tried looking for anything suspicious, but he found none.
Unfortunately, he could only use his Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares until his mind was no longer under immense strain.
’Well, my gut says nothing is wrong about that house.’
Corey approached the house while keeping a watch of his surroundings for any surprise attacks.
But nothing happened, which was surprising to him because he expected something to happen since quiet some time has passed since the Universal System announced that the Third Night had begun.
He stood before the house, observed it for a few seconds and looked through the windows since he could not use his Eyes of Omniscience which allowed him to see through walls and buildings.
But he saw nothing strange in the house.
He entered, and then he closed the door.
He looked around the house, and took in what he was seeing.
The floor was a mosaic of blackened tiles. Many were chipped, broken, or missing making it seem like a battle or fight had occured in the building in the past.
There were several broken chairs, but one was not shattered. It was perfectly balanced on four legs, and there was a dining table in the next room after the room he was in.
The dining table was made of what looked like bone and iron, and its surface was smooth but stained with dried blood and flesh.
Four plates were set on the table, but each was filled with pitch-black sand.
At the far end, a fireplace burned without fuel. There was no wood, no paper, no energy, only a fire that emitted warmth.
Corey was intrigued by this, but he didn’t touch it or observe it until he was back to his full strength.
His instincts remained silent, and he decided to sit close to a wall that had no window.
He began meditating and healing himself with his eyes open, and time passed.
Meanwhile, the inverted triangle above the door outside blinked, and a black eye appeared at the center of the triangle.
