CHAPTER 872: 869: THE THIRD NIGHT (7)

Corey had no idea if what he was looking at was the main source of the corruption of the Dying City or if it was a minor source of the corruption of the Dying City.

In fact... it might not even be a source of the corruption of the Dying City.

But Corey had a feeling that it was one of the sources of the corruption of the city- minor or main.

It just had to be. The aura it emitted was just plain foul to every single bit of Corey’s senses.

Bang!

The house in the distance suddenly fell to the ground, causing a powerful explosion that shook everything that was in a hundred meter radius around it.

Corey looked at it, and all he saw was debris and broken piles of stones, wood, metal, and glass.

’I need to heal faster. Much faster.’

He pulled out one of the black spikes from his legs, and then he pulled another one from his left arm.

Just as he was about to remove another one, his gaze landed on a shadow that was moving toward the black lake, and he frowned.

The shadow had appeared from the remains of the building, and the aura he sensed from the shadow was the same as that of the legs of the house and its eyes.

’So the house was truly a house?’

Corey raised a brow, and then he removed another black spike from his body.

He had been using Arcane Elemental Runeweaving

to manipulate the wind runes to move him across the lake. However, his speed was way too slow for his liking.

His gaze remained fixed on the black lake, and a few seconds later, his eyes widened in disbelief.

’The lake... It’s expanding.’

’It doesn’t look like it, but it is.’

Corey looked at the end of the black lake, and although it looked like there was nothing wrong with the edge of the lake, he could see that it was slowly and subtly expanding.

’Strange.’

The lake began to bubble, and Corey’s gaze sharpened.

He looked at the lake for merely two seconds, and then his gaze became dark.

’Rhea.’

The moment he had this thought, a sharp bird’s cry resounded across the Dying City, and a black light shot out from his left chest.

Rhea appeared before him, and her size was thrice the size of a fighter jet.

She flapped her wings, and her swirling black eyes gazed at Corey for a few seconds before shifting toward the black lake.

"That’s disgusting and just rotten."

Her child-like girly voice drifted through the air, and Corey looked at his contracted beast with a raised brow.

’What can you see?’

She looked at him. "Shadows. Lots of shadows that have been twisted, warped, and corrupted beyond reason."

She shifted her gaze back to the bubbling black lake, and Corey followed her gaze.

"What you’re looking at is like a Gu Pot... There are countless shadows devouring one another in that... thing."

Rhea’s gaze darkened slightly.

"The only thing those shadows know is to destroy and devour one another, and it’s disgusting to watch."

Corey furrowed his brows, and a pondering light flashed in his eyes.

’So what the City wanted was our shadow?’

’I don’t know much about shadows, but I don’t believe it’s that simple.’

He had not been able to see that the lake was a lake of shadows because he chose not to increase the output of his Eyes of Omniscience to see the true nature of the lake.

He had a feeling that if he used his Eyes of Omniscience to see the true nature of the lake, he would suffer in some kind way because of how wrong the lake felt.

With his current injuries, he could not afford to be further incapacitated.

However, he was slightly surprised that Rhea was able to see the true nature of the lake.

He looked at her.

’What do you know about shadows?’

He communicated telepathically with her, and when he saw her shake her head, he was not surprised.

"Nothing much. I’m still too weak to get that knowledge... But, I know that shadows are a bitch to handle."

Corey looked at his arm which had black lines running across it.

Despite having removed every single spike from his body, there was still the strange energy from the spike running rampage in his body.

This strange energy was attempting to disrupt his healing several times, especially healing to his most grievous injuries like his neck for example.

But, how could he allow such a thing.

If not for his Stars of Consciousness which were working at full strength and using so much Dream Energy and Spiritual Energy to heal his body, he would be a corpse by now.

’Is this strange energy shadow energy?... Hmmm... Interesting.’

"Do you want me to take care of... that thing?"

Corey shifted his attention from his arm to Rhea when he noticed the oddity in her words.

"That thing? Not them? Why are you speaking like the lake is one singular entity?"

Rhea tilted her head with a slightly perplexed expression.

"Because it is. Can’t you see that this entire lake is the body of one sick shadow? All the other shadows in it are fighting in its body."

Corey blinked in surprise, and then he looked down.

He could see that the bubbles on the lake was increasing and getting more violent.

’It’s a Tier 6, right?’

Corey asked just in case his senses were being played with, and Rhea nodded.

"Do you want me to fight it?" She asked once again, and Corey shook his head.

He took a step forward and manipulated the wind to carry him to her back.

’Just get me out of here. I need to heal myself.’

"No problem."

Rhea cawed loudly, and then she flapped her wings, causing rippled to appear on the lake of shadows below.

The bubbles on the lake got more violent and aggressive, but Rhea did not wait behind for something to happen.

She dashed forward, and the lake of shadows attacked.
