CHAPTER 876: 873: THE THIRD NIGHT (11)
The moment Corey had the thought of creating a new spell, the colossal shadow attacked.
Its eyes flared with madness and hatred, and then it opened its jaws and roared.
The power behind its roar could be seen as the clouds dissipated and were no more.
A jagged spear of condensed shadow energy, more twisted and dense than the previous shadow spears and even the beams it had unleashed in the past, manifested in the monster’s hand and was thrown toward Corey like a black comet.
Corey’s body blurred.
Black lightning surged across his legs and feet, and in less than a fraction of a second, he used Flash Step.
CLAP!
The sound of an extremely loud thunderclap echoed far and wide, and then he vanished.
The spear passed through where he had just hovered and tore through the airspace above the Dying City, carving a deep rift in the clouds and striking a building in the distance.
That building didn’t explode. No. It was devoured by shadows that exploded out of the spear.
Appearing a dozen meters to the left, Corey could be seen, and black lightning could still be seen crackling off his legs and feet like sparks fleeing a forge. His gaze never left the colossal shadow.
’Now, that feels much better.’
He felt a lot better compared to how he felt when the shadow energy was inside of him. His mana flowed much faster like that of a raging river, and his perception was at its peak.
Although there was still a few bruises and injuries on several parts of his body, they were minor and could be ignored.
His eyes glowed as his mind went through every process and step he had to take to create a new spell. A new skill.
One that would destroy this creature before him. Something that could not just attack its body, but annihilate its source.
He had learned a lot about shadows in the last few minutes, but that was not all that he learned.
In his mind were hundreds, thousands of powerful skills, spells, and martial arts which he got from the Archive and also from the libraries of the Underworld.
And he wanted to combine two spells from the Archive and the Underworld to create a new spell.
It was time to put all the knowledge he had to use.
’Let’s see how it’ll work out.’
His Eyes of Omniscience transformed to his Tri-Pupil Eyes, and his golden triangular pupils glowed.
It was not a golden or silver glow. But a hypnotic, mind-breaking prismatic hue that shimmered like a warped crystal under divine fire.
He used the illusion ability of his Tri-Pupil Eyes, and in the next second, an ethereal light pulsed out from his gaze and struck the colossal shadow.
It paused.
Just for a second.
Then it began thrashing around wildly.
It released a howl of pain and fury, and then it turned and fired a beam of shadow energy into a nearby district.
The beam sliced a street into two and sent debris flying hundreds of meters into the air. It fired again, then again, then again, launching attacks in completely random directions.
It twisted midair and sent chains into buildings that didn’t exist. It grabbed at invisible enemies and roared at empty sky.
When Corey saw this, he knew that the illusion had worked.
In fact, it had worked perfectly.
The colossal shadow was a Tier 6, and because it was a Tier 6, it should have been very difficult for Corey to place it in an illusion.
And if he had succeeded, the colossal shadow should have been able to break free from the illusion because it was a Tier 6.
Not only was the spiritual consumption and mental consumption much higher when using it against a Tier 6, a normal Tier 6 would have noticed that something was wrong and their power would have been able to shatter the illusion he had placed them in.
But the colossal shadow was an entity that only knew hunger, madness, and rage. It could not think for itself, and this made it a lot easier for Corey to put it in an illusion.
What the colossal shadow was seeing was a thousand Coreys all around him. It could hear his voice. Feel his attacks. And the grating sound of his laughter of mockery from all angles.
This caused it to be more furious and more violent in its attacks.
Meanwhile, Corey had already widened the space between him and the colossal shadow, and both of his palms were facing the space before him.
His eyes transformed back to his Eyes of Omniscience. Fortunately for him, he did not need to make his Tri-Pupil Eyes his main eyes for the illusion to keep on working.
In the background of all his eyes, it was active and draining his spiritual and mental energy at a rapid pace.
’Fire or light would be best.’ He thought with a calm expression.
’As long as there’s no object, there’ll be no shadow... But if I just create a pure light based spell, there’s a high chance it won’t be enough. That thing’s body is dense. It’s not just a massive body made of shadows. It’s reinforced with death energy and another energy that feels... corrupt.’
He frowned slightly.
’I guess I have no choice but to use a combination then.’
Arcane Elemental Runeweaving
Dozens of runes appeared in the air before him, and he started weaving.
The first set of runes he dealt with had seventeen strokes, and each one was curved with subtle hooks at their ends. These set of runes represented Fire.
But not basic fire. Purifying Fire to be exact.
The next set of runes had twenty three stones with sharp angles. These set of runes represented Illumination. It was a lesser form of the runes that interpreted Light, but the combination Corey had used made the runes of Illumination to be more intense than a normal rune of Illumination.
