Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station
Chapter 67 - 58 Prevention
CHAPTER 67: CHAPTER 58 PREVENTION
The contents from the black box and the recorded devices left behind in the spaceship wreckage made the manager somewhat difficult to accept.
He, somewhat disbelieving, reconfirmed the records of this spaceship once again.
But the result remained unchanged.
After a moment of silence, the manager picked up the terminal and began to quickly operate on it.
"What are you doing?"
While operating on the terminal, the manager replied, "Contacting the people above to let them know about this news and to prepare."
"I have to emphasize this matter seriously to get the military to come for support."
"If the military comes through the Superspace Channel, it won’t even take a few hours; if they can directly jump here, it could be even faster."
Old Wu, hearing the manager’s words, asked somewhat puzzledly, "You’re thinking of calling for backup before even seeing Dusk?"
The manager replied without lifting his head, "If it really is as you say and Dusk dares to launch a surprise attack, then they must have already prepared to handle the fixed firepower of the Space Station. I have to take precautions in advance."
"Moreover, you should know that although the military and our Space Station have connections, their support requires proper justification to get approved."
"This application is not just a formality, but also necessary to close the investigation by the higher-ups."
Old Wu asked with great interest, "Is there such a thing?"
"It’s quite common for outposts to collaborate with civilian organizations in using the Space Station to circulate things that are not easily circulated in plain sight. There’s a lot of money to be made here."
"Where there’s money, there’s always someone who’s envious, and those who inherently dislike us."
"If someone reports us, and the higher-ups find out any issues, it could be fatal."
"Only by sealing all the routes and arranging all the procedures can we stay safe."
Old Wu looked surprised and said, "This is the first time I’ve discovered that you know quite a bit, unlike me, who knows nothing."
The manager clicked his tongue, somewhat helplessly saying, "You don’t know... you’re just lazy."
"Besides, I’m a certified member of the Space Station Administration, even though I hardly manage anything here officially. I attend the necessary meetings and social engagements, so I’m aware of what I need to know."
Old Wu chuckled, not contradicting the manager’s statement about his laziness, and continued to ask, "Then how many days for the military to arrive?"
"Three days."
"If Dusk really intends to attack us, it should be within these three days. The Space Station won’t fall in three days, but the extent of the damage is uncertain."
The manager suddenly removed his equipment he had been wearing and said, "I have to go to the administration. I’m estimating I’ll be arguing there all night. Don’t stay in the dock recently; just stay in a safe place in the core city and wait for my news."
Saying this, he immediately set off to leave the maintenance plant.
Old Wu, seeing that there was nothing to do at the maintenance plant, followed and asked, "Do you still want me to do the work you assigned me?"
"Of course, bring Xiao Mu to the city. It’s safe there, and people like him shouldn’t be lost casually."
"What about the others?"
"They’ll have to fend for themselves."
"Why do you sound like we’re already doomed?"
The manager glanced sideways at Old Wu and said, "If Dusk has already arrived, wouldn’t you say we’re doomed?"
Old Wu thought for a moment and realized it indeed seemed that way.
Currently, the Space Station has at most the manager’s reminder to the higher-ups, providing some very basic precautions.
But when facing Dusk’s well-prepared troops, these precautions are likely to be ineffective.
And the dock, filled with guiding signal lights from ships, would undoubtedly be Dusk’s first target.
If Dusk really comes now, they would indeed be doomed.
"Then I won’t trouble you."
Old Wu left a phrase and prepared to leave promptly.
But before parting with the manager, Old Wu suddenly turned back and asked, "What about the deputy manager? He’s coming back tomorrow, right?"
The manager’s expression turned ugly in an instant, clearly reminded of some unpleasant memories.
With a somewhat gloomy tone, the manager said, "That jerk was sent by the higher-ups, can’t easily deal with him, better to avoid him."
"Make sure you’re present for the contract signing with Xiao Mu tomorrow, best let HR bring the contract to my office directly, to prevent him from getting his hands on it."
"Who knows if he will even hear about Dusk when he comes back tomorrow, I might look for an opportunity to let Dusk take care of him."
The manager headed through the small door of the maintenance plant towards the core city of the Space Station, while Old Wu returned on the original path to the maintenance area.
And then he was blocked by Chen Ming.
During that time, apart from eating once within the Space Station, Chen Ming had not left the maintenance plant.
Though there was no work or money to be earned, he could still browse the ships and ship equipment being sold at the maintenance plant.
Even though the prices of these items were beyond Chen Ming’s reach, looking didn’t cost anything.
Chen Ming had just been looking and ended up staying until the approach of evening.
Upon seeing Old Wu step out, he immediately approached him, only to receive a seemingly carefree greeting from Old Wu.
"Yo, isn’t it Xiao Mu, good to see you found some work. Were you looking for me just now?"
Seeing Old Wu’s smiling face, Chen Ming suddenly recalled the three thousand dollars he was scammed out of. It wasn’t much, but Old Wu’s smile had left a very deep impression on him.
However, Chen Ming had something to ask of him now, so he restrained the urge to punch Old Wu and said, "Old Wu, do you have some free time now? I have something I want to ask you."
"Of course, I’m free. What’s up?"
Chen Ming glanced around and said, "I’m not sure if this is a good place to talk."
Old Wu also looked around in the direction Chen Ming had glanced. The 24-hour maintenance plant still had quite a few people around, indeed not the best place for a conversation.
Old Wu’s mind flashed with the manager’s instructions just now, so he said, "How about we find a place to have a drink?"
"Alright."
Chen Ming did not refuse.
Just as he was about to follow Old Wu towards the city, the young maintenance master who had been with Old Wu earlier suddenly appeared behind Chen Ming.
"Brother Wu, going for a drink tonight?"
Old Wu instinctively reached towards Chen Ming’s shoulder but was dodged by Chen Ming.
He didn’t mind and said to the young maintenance master, "Xiao Wen, I have some matters today, can’t go, let’s talk later."
Without exchanging many words with Xiao Wen, Old Wu clocked out and led Chen Ming towards the city.
Leaving Xiao Wen frowning as he watched the back of Chen Ming and Old Wu disappear through the gate.
