CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 26 CRITICAL SITUATION

No wonder Li Jingyi has become complacent; she’s been at the school hospital for too long, only dealing with minor illnesses like prescribing cold medicine. The knowledge she learned may not be forgotten, but at the very least, it’s become rusty. However, hearing Xiao Lin’s words made her feel deeply ashamed, realizing she had regressed with age. She immediately said, "Okay, let’s head over right now!" Xiao Lin’s words seem to rekindle the passion within Li Jingyi that had long been extinguished.

"Xiao Ning, lead the way!" Xiao Lin promptly instructed, with a tone of command in his voice. However, Xiao Ning didn’t find anything amiss and immediately turned to lead the way at a brisk jog.

As they reached the hospital entrance, they coincidentally encountered Xia Xue, who was dressed flamboyantly and arrived slightly late. It was just past eight o’clock now, and given the typical style of the school hospital, there wouldn’t normally be anyone at work at this hour. After all, it’s not like those hospitals in society where patients are as numerous as fish in a river; both the outpatient and inpatient departments here are quite deserted, which is one reason the doctors at the school hospital lack motivation.

Seeing Xiao Ning leading Xiao Lin and Li Jingyi out of the hospital at a jog, Xia Xue found it strange and greeted Li Jingyi, "Dr. Li, what’s the rush this early in the morning?"

Li Jingyi had some reservations about Xia Xue, primarily due to Xia Xue’s lifestyle choices, but she did admire Xia Xue’s medical skills. In the emergency room, aside from the previously retired director, Xia Xue was the most skillful—at least Li Jingyi believed her own medical abilities were inferior to Xia Xue’s.

Seeing Xia Xue arrive early today, Li Jingyi wasted no time and said directly, "Xia Xue, you’re just in time. A girl at the girls’ dormitory building at our school has jumped off the building. We’re rushing over for emergency care!"

"Someone jumped off a building?" Xia Xue echoed, not saying much more and promptly followed Li Jingyi out of the hospital. It was only then that Xia Xue pretended to notice Xiao Lin and asked Li Jingyi, "Dr. Li, who’s this young man carrying an emergency kit around?" Having just received the phone call from the teaching office upon entering the office, Xiao Lin and Li Jingyi, along with Xiao Ning, hadn’t had time to change into medical attire, allowing Xia Xue to pretend she didn’t know Xiao Lin was a doctor.

Li Jingyi introduced Xia Xue to Xiao Lin, "Dr. Xia, this is the new emergency department doctor, Dr. Xiao Linxiao!" She then introduced Xia Xue to Xiao Lin, "Dr. Xiao, this is our hospital’s renowned beauty, Dr. Xia Xue!"

Xiao Lin, quite responsive to Xia Xue’s presence, didn’t reveal her identity. Upon hearing Li Jingyi introduce Xia Xue, he nodded slightly towards Xia Xue and said, "Hello, Dr. Xia!"

Li Jingyi’s surprise at Xiao Lin’s indifference to Xia Xue was palpable. Though Li Jingyi considered herself attractive, she had felt a sense of awe upon first seeing Xia Xue, yet Xiao Lin, at the height of his youth, showed no such reaction. This young man really knows how to hold his ground.

Xiao Ning chimed in, "Dr. Xia, Dr. Li has been promoted to our department head!"

"Oh, congratulations, Director Li!" Xia Xue smiled indifferently, congratulating Li Jingyi.

"Nothing to congratulate, really. If it weren’t for you two refusing, I wouldn’t be the director now!" Li Jingyi replied with a wry smile. Though Xia Xue’s seniority was less than hers, Xia Xue’s medical skills were undoubtedly superior. The previous director recommended Xia Xue as his successor, but Xia Xue wasn’t interested in the position, considering it too trivial with too many responsibilities. Thus, the position fell upon Xiao Lin, who, even more decisively, recommended Li Jingyi for the role.

The four of them quickly jogged over to the front of the tenth girls’ dormitory building. By now, quite a few students had gathered to watch, as this dorm was primarily for third-year students, so most of the onlookers were senior students.

At the scene, a woman lay slightly hunched over in a pool of blood, her body covered in blood, even her mouth filled with it.

Beside the girl stood two school security guards and someone who appeared to be a leader from the educational administration. Li Jingyi called out to the crowd, "Make way, make way, the hospital’s doctors are here!"

Upon hearing Li Jingyi’s shout, many students turned their gaze to Xiao Lin, whose reputation had been spreading among the senior students these past few days. Particularly in this dormitory building, Xiao Lin had discovered a sunstroke case on his first day at work, a girl residing in this building. From a minor sunstroke, she was found to have severe anemia, which, if mishandled, could lead to acute aplastic anemia. Xiao Lin’s medical prowess and handsome appearance had quickly spread through this building.

Seeing Xiao Lin jog forward with the emergency kit mesmerized many of the female students, their gazes locked onto Xiao Lin. Xiao Lin paid no mind to these looks and briskly moved ahead a few steps to the site, preparing to squat down and examine her.

That leader-looking middle-aged man looked at Xiao Lin in astonishment, saying, "Hey, who are you? Don’t touch the injured!"

Startled, Xiao Lin glanced at the middle-aged leader, wondering if he really looked so unlike a doctor—just because he was a bit good-looking and youthful?

Li Jingyi quickly ran over, urgently stating, "Director Chen, this is Dr. Xiao, our newly arrived emergency expert from Harvard Medical School!"

Director Chen was taken aback. The young man appeared to be in his early twenties, similar to the age of the surrounding female students. How could he possibly have such an impressive educational background?

Xiao Lin ignored the others and quickly flipped open the eyelids of the girl who jumped, checked her nasal region, and swiftly opened the emergency kit. He instructed Li Jingyi and Xia Xue, "She still has breath; we should be in time. One of you handle the head wound and stop the bleeding; the other one, the leg injury and bleeding!" As he finished speaking, he glanced up the dorm building, which had seven floors in total, and felt a jolt of surprise. He turned to Director Li to ask, "Which floor did this girl jump off?"

"The fifth floor!" Director Li quickly replied.

"No wonder!" Xiao Lin remarked, considering that had she jumped from the seventh floor, she wouldn’t have survived at all. Since she still had a faint pulse, her life seemed saved.

Xiao Lin, Li Jingyi, and Xia Xue each focused on a specific area. Li Jingyi’s technique seemed somewhat rusty, but the leg injuries weren’t severe—just multiple fractures. Xia Xue, dealing with the head injuries, found them particularly troublesome. There were two fractured skull areas, yet Xia Xue handled them far more skillfully and methodically than Li Jingyi.

"Ah, Dr. Xiao, this girl has started vomiting blood!" Xiao Ning observed when handing the emergency pack to Xiao Lin, seeing fresh blood coming from the mouth of the girl who jumped.

Turning back, Xiao Lin’s heart skipped a beat, seeing the blood; it indicated varying degrees of internal bleeding in the chest cavity. This was going to be a major complication.
