CHAPTER 111: I’M FIGHTING FOR HER IN MY OWN WAY!

Author’s POV

"What the hell are you two doing out here in the middle of the night?"

The air was quiet and still. But Asher’s voice cut through it as he walked toward them in a slow and deliberate step.

Alistair turned, furrowing his brows. His fist curled at his side at the sight of Asher.

"What are you doing here, rascal?"

Asher blinked. He was a little confused about his actions. "What kind of question is that?" he said, stopping just a few feet away. "This is my house. Where else would I be?"

"Go inside," Alistair said flatly in a cold tone. "I’ve got something to talk about with Lucien alone.

Asher didn’t move at first. But then his eyes drifted past them... toward a car parked a few feet away from them. His expression changed the second he saw Sera, who was asleep in the passenger seat, wrapped in a stranger’s blazer.

His jaw clenched at the sight. He really hated Lucien for being around Sera.

"Then what the fuck is my sister doing here?" he asked, eyes narrowing on Lucien.

"You don’t have the right to say that," Alistair shot at him, annoyed. "Just go inside. This doesn’t concern you."

Asher scoffed. "Are you out of your mind?"

He wasn’t surprised by the coldness in Alistair’s tone. He was used to it, and ever since he told how Sera was mistreated after arriving at the Lancaster mansion, Alistair had been acting like Asher was the only person who bullied her.

Fine. Asher could deal with that.

But what Alistair didn’t seem to understand was just how twisted their mother could be. Only Asher knew about that.

"At least I’m not pretending to care for her and then go to someone else," Alistair muttered, shooting him a glare before turning to Lucien. "Let’s just go. He’s not worth it."

"Keep running your mouth when I’m gone," Asher muttered, brushing past Alistair without even glancing at him. "I’m taking Sera inside."

"Don’t touch her." Alistair’s voice halted him in his steps. It was cold and sharp. "If you lay a hand on her, I swear to God... I’ll break your fucking hand."

Asher snorted as he turned slowly.

"Oh, really?" he raised a brow, lips twitching into a smirk. "You think you’ve got such strength to break my hand?"

Alistair shot back at his words. "You—" Almost losing his cool.

He stepped forward, hand already rising to slap the smugness on his brother’s face, but before it could land, Lucien stepped between them and grabbed his wrist.

"Why’d you say he’s out of his mind?" Lucien asked, eyes not leaving Asher.

Asher didn’t answer right away. He exhaled, slow and tired, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Man..." he muttered, "you seriously don’t see it?"

He didn’t wait for a reply. Just lifted his hand and pointed toward the mansion on the upper floor.

"Can you see that room...The one with the dim light."

They all looked in the direction he had pointed.

For a second, they could see nothing; a shadow shifted behind the curtain and soon disappeared from their sight.

"She’s watching," Asher said under his breath. "That’s her... Our mother!"

His jaw clenched as he looked back at Lucien.

"You wanna talk to her?" his voice dropped, low and bitter. "Do it outside and stay away from Sera as much as you can. You’ve got no idea what that woman is capable of."

Alistair scoffed. "As if she has the guts to touch her."

But he didn’t know what the mother and daughter duo were capable of.

Alistair had only ever seen her as cold and biased toward her only daughter.

What he didn’t know as the real face that was rotten underneath.

But Asher had seen it. And he knew that if he acted all loving toward Sera, they would make her life difficult the moment they got the chance.

"I told you..." Lucien exhaled through his teeth, his eyes turned dark as they settled on the Lancaster brothers. "If anything happens to her while she’s here... I’m taking her with me." His voice was low, controlled, and dead serious.

"And if that happens, you won’t see her ever again." He proclaimed.

"You dare—!" Asher’s voice snapped at him sharply. His eyes flashed red as fury flared in his eyes.

He hadn’t even gotten the chance to bond with his sister properly. He was still learning how to talk to her and not to scare her. Every step he took was full of caution, and this person... who had nothing to do with her was telling him that he’d take her away.

"No," Asher hissed, stepping forward. "You think you care about her more than I do?" His fists were trembling with fearlessness.

"You don’t know what she means to me," he muttered coldly. "You don’t know what I’ve lost already and how much I’m trying to make up to her!"

Alistair was taken aback for a moment. He had never seen Asher like this.

That guy had always been cold and composed. He was a soldier through and through. Even with Melissa, the most he ever expressed was some concern, a bit of brotherly duty here and there, and nothing else.

But now... the way his voice broke and the way his fists trembled, it must be even Asher’s first time to act this way.

Alistair didn’t know what bothered him more... If it was Asher’s sudden emotions... or the fact that he understood what exactly he was feeling.

"I don’t care if she likes you... Or if you like her," Asher muttered, his glare locked on Lucien. "She’s my sister. And I’m trying to fight for her... in my own damn way."

Lucien let out a cold breath, eyes narrowing. "Really?" he stepped a little closer, his voice calm but sharp. "And what exactly is that way, Asher? By showing up late and not believing your own sister?"
