CHAPTER 55: SAVED BY A BOAT CREATED BY AN AI SYSTEM

The cold, salty air brushed against Alaric’s skin as he forced himself to stay composed in the middle of the open sea. After diving through an underwater passage beneath the lake and finally emerging at the surface, he felt the fresh air greet him gently.

But reality hit fast. He gasped when he realized he wasn’t anywhere near the shore as he had imagined. Instead, he was drifting far out in the vast, seemingly endless water.

Alaric furrowed his brow, trying to steady his breathing and adapt once more. He wanted to turn around and swim toward the distant coastline visible on the horizon. But his body was already weak, his muscles trembling and shivering more intensely.

Still, there was a small reserve of energy left that he could try to summon, pushing through the crashing waves with more precision and intention. He had to conserve his strength while still making every movement count.

Then, in the middle of his struggle, a familiar voice broke the silence. It came from inside his head, the AI system that had been his companion for years.

And this time, it wasn’t just giving directions. It was offering real help.

"Alaric, I’m detecting a decline in your physical condition. Initiating emergency solution," the voice said.

Then, right in front of him, as if out of shimmering thin air, a small boat began to form. It didn’t just appear instantly but was carefully and deliberately assembled by the AI system using materials fused from the seawater and ambient energy.

The boat had a sleek shape. Futuristic yet functional, strong enough to carry one person and move at a steady speed.

The AI continued, "This autonomous boat is designed as a backup aid for emergency situations. You can board and control it to reach land more efficiently and safely."

Alaric stared in awe. His eyes widened, then slowly relaxed as relief set in, soaking in the realization that he no longer had to fight alone against the currents that were slowly draining him.

His gaze grew more amazed as the boat continued to form above the ocean surface, a manifestation of futuristic technology and wonder. Its body was aerodynamic, with a shimmering surface that looked like lightweight metal layered with transparent crystal. Solid yet elegant.

On the side of the boat floated a holographic touch panel, displaying real-time instructions and a digital map that moved in sync with the boat’s position.

The boat vibrated gently when Alaric touched it, as if responding to his presence. He felt a responsive surface beneath his fingers that detected movement and pressure.

Carefully, he approached the small boat and grasped the dark side of its sturdy hull. The young man climbed aboard and sat cautiously, adjusting his position to keep the boat from wobbling.

The AI system offered guidance in his ear. "Use your hand gestures to steer. Move your hand to the left to turn left, right to turn right, and push forward to accelerate."

Alaric took a deep breath, his heart racing, caught between exhaustion and hope. He slowly raised his right hand into the air and twisted his wrist to the left. The boat responded smoothly, turning left as it cut through the moderate waves of the salty sea.

"Finally," he whispered, his breath ragged. "You may have taken your time, but at least you came with a solution."

The AI system quickly processed and responded with a short instruction. "Steer the boat westward. There is land detected in that direction."

Alaric nodded, his hand beginning to guide the invisible controls. The boat glided smoothly across the waves.

This AI-crafted vessel moved fast yet steady, slicing through the sea with a calm force, carrying Alaric closer to the land he had been yearning for.

Despite the lingering fatigue and pain, a quiet sense of gratitude began to grow. That even after so many close calls, he still had a way out.

After being trapped in a random cave for hours, it finally felt like the road home was right in front of him.

Alaric tried out a few more movements. He raised his hand forward to make the boat go faster, cutting through the waves with remarkable stability, even as the wind and sea currents pushed hard against him. And it worked.

"Wow, this is amazing... It’s like I’m controlling something alive," he said, both thrilled and impressed by the futuristic device.

Just as he was starting to get used to it, a large wave appeared ahead. His heartbeat surged, but he didn’t panic. With a swift motion, he tilted the boat left. The vessel turned smoothly, avoiding a hard impact that could have knocked him off.

The AI responded with enthusiasm. "Great reflexes, Alaric. This boat is equipped with automatic gyroscopic stabilizers to maintain balance even in extreme wave conditions."

Alaric’s confidence grew. He began steering toward the beach that was now visible just a few meters ahead. With more coordinated hand movements, he urged the boat forward, riding the increasingly fast and choppy water.

At one point, he clenched his fist in self encouragement. "Come on, this is my way out."

In his mind, he felt a strange connection with the boat, as if they were moving in harmony, like they shared one mind. Every hand gesture received an exact response, almost as if they were communicating telepathically.

Wave after wave was conquered, technology and determination merging inside Alaric, guiding him steadily to shore.

And soon enough, he reached land stretching along the beach.

He swung his legs out of the small boat, stepping onto the sand with slightly unsteady feet, though his heart was filled with relief. The coarse grains beneath his feet felt like a promise.

A promise of return to normal life, away from the pressure and danger he had just escaped. He exhaled deeply, his pale face mixing exhaustion with relief.

"I need to call Mom," he murmured as he reached into his jacket pocket for his phone, now soaked.

Saltwater and electronics don’t mix, he thought. "The battery can be recharged, but if the phone’s dead, I’ll have to find another way." A flicker of worry passed through his mind, imagining the phone completely broken and unable to power on.

He tried to hold off the panic. Then he remembered the backpack he’d thrown out of the cave earlier. He racked his brain, trying to recall where it might have landed from the outside.

But his body was still weak, and hunger gnawed at his stomach. After battling currents and swimming through deep water, his body clearly needed fuel. "I need to eat first... regain some strength, then find the bag and look for help."

With unsteady steps, Alaric began walking along the shoreline, adjusting to the fresh morning air, cool against his skin.

Not too far from where he had landed, he spotted a small open-air shelter surrounded by coconut trees. Beside it were a few food stalls selling daily necessities from full meals to basic groceries.

When he arrived, Alaric stepped into one of the small warungs that smelled delicious with the aroma of local cooking. The place was simple, with wooden floors and a thatched roof. The people looked kind and welcoming. It was the perfect spot to regain his energy.

"Good morning," he greeted hoarsely. He walked to an empty table and sat down slowly, placing his phone and damp bag beside him. Alaric glanced around at a few locals enjoying their breakfast under the shelter. Maybe... someone here could help if his phone was truly broken.

While waiting for his food, Alaric observed his surroundings. The locals chatted casually over their meals, occasionally throwing curious but friendly glances his way.

The warung buzzed with the clinking of glasses and plates, filled with the rich smell of spices and sambal.

With pale, cold hands, Alaric picked up his phone. He kept his gaze on the damp screen, pressing the side button gently. But the screen stayed black.

"Maybe the battery just ran out earlier. Doesn’t mean it’s broken," he thought.

Before he could put the phone down, a middle aged woman. The beachside stalls owner, came over carrying a glass of hot tea.

"Here, drink this first. You look pale," she said as she placed the glass on the table, glancing at the cuts on Alaric’s hand.

"That’s bleeding... You should have that bandaged. There’s a clinic nearby."

Alaric nodded weakly. "Thank you, Ma’am. I’ll take care of it soon. Oh, do you mind if I charge my phone here? The battery’s been low all day."

"Of course. Go ahead, you can plug it in near the counter," she said kindly.

The screen finally lit up, though it flickered a few times. But it was enough. He could call his mother. The dial tone rang a few times before a familiar voice answered. "Mom, I made it out of the cave... I’m okay now."

His mother sounded surprised but relieved to hear his voice. They talked briefly, and Alaric explained what had happened without causing too much worry.

"Alaric? Where are you? I’ve been so worried. I couldn’t reach you at all," her voice rushed with emotion.

Just that morning, she had watched him leave for what she assumed was a safe outdoor adventure spot. But a few hours later, she received news that her only son had been trapped inside a cave. What mother wouldn’t panic?

Alaric sighed, trying to calm his tone. "Mom, I’m safe... I’m at the beach now, sitting in a warung. I really was trapped in a cave for a while."
