CHAPTER 54: CHAPTER 0055: BESTOWING ABILITIES UPON THE SHADOW.

Modret stayed inside a room while Axel stayed in the room beside him.

Sitting cross-legged, Modret thought about all that had happened so far and clenched his fist tightly.

’Troy!’ Modret still felt an unprecedented rage whenever he thought of that youth.

Even with infinite mana he couldn’t defeat him—that was truly a lamentable situation...

After some hesitation, he decided to spin the roulette.

Glancing at the system’s screen, he realized he had 10 roulette spins available.

’By combining them I should get a higher grade ability, huh?’ Modret prayed silently in his heart, his mind filled with expectations as he mentally clicked the ’+’ sign on the system screen.

A glow surfaced before Modret’s consciousness appeared in the unique void space.

He gazed down on the already spinning roulette as he waited silently.

A whistling sound echoed in the peaceful, silent void as the roulette gradually shifted before coming to a stop and landing on a blue light.

’A B-grade ability?’ Modret didn’t feel too disappointed; at least he was guaranteed to get higher grade abilities whenever he spun the roulette.

The description of the ability surfaced in his mind.

’Another movement ability?’ He shook his head then placed the ability at the back of his mind.

Closing his eyes, Modret began absorbing mana.

His gaze moved internally to his mana core and a frown formed on his face.

His mana core was filled with cracks, and like a glass, it seemed as though it would shatter at any moment.

A few soft blue glows threatened to escape through the gaps of the cracks as he absorbed more pale blue mana.

’This should most likely be the cost of infinite mana,’

Modret guessed internally; although one could have infinite mana, it didn’t mean that their core could withstand the destruction caused by the unlimited mana.

’If I had a few hundred more abilities, using unlimited mana with them all would have just caused my mana core to collapse.’ Modret lampooned internally.

Closing his eyes once more, he continued absorbing mana.

Gradually, the cracks within his core were being mended, regaining its smooth exterior surface.

This was another knowledge Modret had obtained from the SSS-grade Lightning Ability.

Aside from those with SSS-grade abilities, no one else could possess such means.

’I guess this is what it’s like being the parent grade.’

Modret no longer let his thoughts linger as he returned to meditation.

The sunlight filtered through the dark curtains, casting its warm, serene glow on Modret, whose eyes were closed as blue lights surrounded him.

Finally, his eyes shifted slightly as he opened them.

Standing up and stretching, he exclaimed, "A new day, huh?"

He shifted his attention to his core briefly, ’I should be able to completely restore it within a week.’

With that thought, he stepped out of his room.

Outside his room door, Axel was already waiting.

Modret thought of something then glanced up at Axel.

"Hey Axel, how would you like to get stronger?"

The thought was fleeting, but Modret felt that since he would soon have a burst of strength growth, Axel too should increase his strength.

Axel looked at him curiously, "Young Master, what do you mean?"

Modret chuckled, then explained.

After a few minutes passed, Axel widened his eyes...

"You mean after gathering these things called shadow fragments from killing animals, I can become stronger?"

Modret nodded.

There was no need for him to hide this information from Axel, as he was his shadow.

Unlike shadow servants which were disposable, Modret knew that Axel was going to stick with him for a long time—at least until he gathered one million shadow fragments.

Suddenly, Modret thought of something then moved his thoughts towards the system.

Immediately, a line of words flashed before his eyes.

[Detected that the Lord of Shadows has bestowed 10 A-grade abilities on his shadow.]

Previously, in the description of his shadow, Modret read about bestowing some abilities upon his shadow.

Back then he placed it at the back of his mind, but now... He felt it would come in handy.

Of course, he could still feel thin threads connecting him to the abilities, and whenever he wished, he could tug on these threads to pull the abilities back to him.

Axel felt a miraculous change within him and the descriptions of all sorts of abilities surfaced in his mind.

’So many abilities... To think the Young Master had so many abilities!’

Axel’s body trembled in disbelief, ’and for him to give me 10, he must have countless more.’

Axel couldn’t help but recall when he had asked Modret about how many abilities he had and Modret had replied simply.

"Not Enough"

In essence, he could still obtain more...

’What a monster...’ Axel shook his head with a sigh, not bothering to compare himself with Modret.

He bowed respectfully, "Thank you, Young Master."

Modret rubbed his head awkwardly and was about to reply when he caught a thin frame from the corner of his eye.

It was the little girl from yesterday...

In her hand were some neatly folded towels as she stepped out of a room three doors away from theirs.

Modret glanced at her with curiosity. He had a strange, unsettling feeling that there was something peculiar about the girl.

Raising his voice slightly, he asked, "Aren’t you too young to be doing all these?"

At the age of 5, Modret was still attending classes; although there was that one time he explored the forest, it was just a single thing not worth mentioning.

The little girl paused in her tracks then glanced up at Modret and Axel.

Her mysterious purple eyes stared at them briefly before she let out a sigh and spoke.

"Sister is always tired after attending to the guests all night so I have to clean up every morning."

Pausing as though deliberating over her choice of words, she continued.

"If I slack off, sister would not make enough money to feed us... So I don’t bother to do anything else."

Modret felt some pity for the little girl, not knowing how to comfort her...

"Err, I’ll be heading out now..." It was as though she realized the awkward air; the little girl swiftly departed from them both.

"What an interesting girl. She speaks with such maturity that one might mistake her for an adult..." Axel muttered.

Meanwhile, Modret’s gaze lingered on her departing figure, a silent guess about her identity forming in his heart.

’No, it can’t be...’ Modret shook his head, feeling he was thinking too much about certain things...
