SSS Ranked Awakening: Starting With My Limitless Cosmic Shadow System
Chapter 77 - 0078: Hunting
CHAPTER 77: CHAPTER 0078: HUNTING
Modret passed through weathered rocks, then gradually reached the location of large rocks deep within the tunnel grounds.
A few workers who caught sight of him stared at him strangely; however, during this time, this wasn’t the only strange person who had come here, so they didn’t move to stop him.
Believing he was one of the few strangers coming here, they could only let Modret do as he pleased, not even bothering to tamper with the mask on his face.
Of course Modret was pleased with this development.
The air suddenly grew damp, and the surrounding scenery changed quietly — from the unique, occasional rocks and light puddles of water he was used to, a foul stench filled the air.
Modret was exasperated, wrinkling his nose in disgust, but he knew he couldn’t delay long.
His gaze swept through the surrounding scenery, scanning for the silhouette of a suspicious person.
Aside from a river-like water emitting a foul stench located in the middle of the road down the tunnel, the sides were filled with rocks.
Modret glanced around for a bit but didn’t catch a glimpse of any suspicious person.
’I am wasting time with this. We have to be swift with the elimination!’
With that thought Modret waved his hand and a mass of black flame spread from his hands to the surrounding area.
The black flames were filled with horrible heat and within a few seconds of spreading, a choking sound was heard.
Of course, since this was Modret’s ability, it didn’t attack him in the slightest.
Modret’s eyes shifted instantly to the location of the choking sound, and he noticed that, at some point, a man had been hiding in the stench-filled water, likely waiting to ambush Modret the moment he entered the water.
And around the chest of the man was the insignia of the Axarel royal family!
’Did these guys really think I would have gotten into such stinky water just to get myself ambushed?’ Modret didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the fact that they were underestimating him.
Without hesitation, he vanished from his location, his wings behind him flapping gently as he swiftly released a flaming black lotus onto the man.
The attack engulfed the man whole the next moment, and within a few breaths he was destroyed completely, even his ashes being consumed by the SSS-grade null flames.
’How terrifying!’ Modret drew in a sharp breath. ’The speed of burning is even faster than before! And this time it didn’t even leave ashes like before.’ He immediately spotted the unique changes in his attack.
Since he had eliminated the man, he waved his hand, extinguishing the black flames that threatened to dry the stench-filled pool.
’It likely will be good for them if I eliminate something bringing out such a foul stench,’ he mused internally as he silently slipped out of the tunnel.
Once again, the group of tunnel workers stared at him for a brief instant, wondering what had happened inside there; after they heard faint sounds, for a moment they felt a burst of heat coming out from the cell.
Modret didn’t pay them any heed and rushed to the next location.
’According to the shadow servant,’ he stared at the sun in the sky — the time was still pretty early; he approximated it was likely around eight at most — ’the next person should be at the marketplace. This time I need to deal with it sneakily and swiftly so as not to attract any attention to myself.’
After planning his next course of action, Modret quickened his pace and his body flickered like a ghost. When he reached a place far from prying eyes, wings sprouted from his back, and he flapped them gently, vanishing into a trail of lightning.
Something that Modret had noticed was that when he was in the elemental sovereign state with his lightning element, his speed was more than three times greater than when he was using his fire element, despite its upgrade to SSS-grade.
However, the opposite occurred with his defence. As for attacking potential, the fire was previously weaker than lightning, but since increasing its grade they were now of the same destructive might.
Deciding not to ponder much on his thoughts, Modret flapped his wings once more, increasing his pace and finally arriving silently atop a high enough roof.
Activating all his sight-enhancement abilities his eyes sharpened, and he could now see extremely far away, deep into the dense crowd at the marketplace.
The market was filled with all sorts of people, including gamblers trying their luck on what seemed like rocks which they cracked apart to obtain treasures.
Modret shifted his gaze from them, scanning the remaining people for anyone suspicious.
A middle-aged man read a book, occasionally glancing around and studying his surroundings as though waiting for something.
Modret stared at him for longer, but when he put the book down, Modret didn’t see the crest of the Axarel family on the man’s chest.
’I shouldn’t completely base my selections on those with the Axarel family insignia; however, aside from that I will basically be killing innocents.’
A flicker of thought to wipe out everyone in the market crossed his mind; however, Modret ruled the thought immediately as it didn’t sit well with him.
Just then, he spotted a man with dark shades, walking calmly while scanning the crowd. As he moved the surrounding passersby distanced themselves from him, spotting the insignia of the royal family etched across his chest.
’Bingo!’ Modret exclaimed internally, then studied the man for a brief instant.
’We have just one chance...’ Modret thought internally before making his move.
His mana drained by more than thirty percent in an instant as he activated all the movement abilities he possessed, at the same time using the maximum speed of the elemental lightning sovereign.
Bang!
A thunderous sound echoed from the outburst of Modret’s movements, causing the gaze of the passersby to snap in that direction.
They noticed that, surprisingly, the roof had cracked silently, causing most of them to be stunned as to what exactly happened.
With some of them shaking their heads and others sighing, they returned back to what they were doing.
However, they didn’t notice that a middle-aged man with dark glasses had quietly disappeared into the marketplace.
A few who had spotted the peculiar man looked surprised, but in this era of abilities, anything was possible.
As for Modret?
He was already on his way to the next target...
