CHAPTER 220: - CONFRONTING THE INSTRUCTORS-

Both Elites and Paragons revealed a gawking look.

Max slammed Akira to the floor, restraining her arms while meeting their eyes.

"How brutal. Don’t you think that’s enough?"

Wanting to save face after seeing his most promising student of this batch defeated and restricted by Max, the burly Instructor, Ren, coldly spoke, frowning at the sight.

"But she hasn’t forfeited." In response, Max tightened his grip against Akira’s fierce resistance.

Hearing Max’s refusal, Instructor Ren’s face became slightly ugly as he turned to Miss May hoping she would save him some face.

Astounded by Max’s performance, Miss May’s expression faltered, then turned solemn, staying silent for a moment before uttering a word that disappointed the Elites.

"It’s okay Max, you’ve proven your skills, let her go." She spoke coldly, ignoring the disappointed look from the Elites.

In contrast, the Paragons, excluding Blake, looked contented, a little smug that their Instructor had managed to win over the heart of the Elites’ Instructor, succumbing her to his bind.

’At last, too much familiarity hinders keen judgment.’

For the fact that the spar had been instigated by the other party, intending to use him as a stepping stone, made Max feel greatly wronged.

And now that he turned the tables the other party wanted to save face.

Meanwhile, unable to come to his defense at the beginning and then ordering him to let go, Max felt nothing but disgust towards the female Instructor.

"If you’re unable to separate petty emotions from proper workplace etiquette then you might as well quit your job."

"Yo!"

An audible gasp echoed as the gathering turned dead silent.

Widened eyes froze on Max’s frame, incapacitating Akira to the floor, without daring to breathe.

The Elites’ hearts chilled as Max’s words echoed in their ears.

There was a reason they respected Instructors, even more obeying their commands without refusal.

And this was because of the authority every Instructor wielded.

Being able to report them

directly to the Provost and the reported earning a single rank demotion as the least of any wrong committed.

There was an unwritten rule, that is, never to provoke an Instructor for any reason.

But from the look of it, Max had shattered this rule and didn’t seem to care much.

Miss May looked stunned, evidently processing the severity of Max’s rebutting statement before a torrent of rage filled her.

"You.." For a moment she lost her breath before managing to compose herself.

"...so this is how you choose to end your time here?" Her voice sounded venomous and her eyes glinted dangerously.

"No."

Before they could feel pity towards Max’s fate, the former responded coldly and shook his head.

"How arrogant. Boy do you—"

Crack!

"Ahhh!"

Before the burly Instructor could interject, the distinct crack of a dislocated joint sounded, followed by a pained moan.

"Do you forfeit?" Max’s cold voice broke through the tension, causing jaws to drop.

Knowing she was in for a world of pain after seeing Max defy both Instructors, Akira chose to resign to her fate to end any further embarrassment.

"I forfeit."

Just as Max’s absolute grip tightened over her arms, Akira gritted the words through her teeth.

Letting go of her arms, Max stood and bowed slightly, throwing a cold look at the two Instructors who were too livid to speak.

"Ahem! That concludes the duel sparring session. It was indeed enlightening." With an awkward cough, the burly Instructor stepped forward to ease the tension.

Since he had no right to deal with Max, he could only leave it to Miss May by giving a small nod in her direction.

Heaving heavily, with constricted breath, Miss May also stepped forward, facing the Elites while the burly Instructor stood behind her.

"Due to your awe-inspiring potential, you are now mandated to perform 100 sets of martial workout in order to accelerate your growth. You’ll be under supervision."

Earning a collective gasp, her words caused Max to frown upon realizing she was purposefully setting him up based on the absurd reactions of the others.

"Any attempt to skip will result in your expulsion." Revealing her absolute authority, the Instructor smiled victoriously.

After that, she gestured towards Miles who tried to hide away from her gaze.

"Miles, I saw you get acquainted with him. So you should demonstrate how things are done here."

"The rest of you will carry out twenty sets each."

Instantly the Elites’ faces turned to displeasure as they heard these words.

"Now dismiss," she coldly added, turning to walk away.

No one spoke, yet the persistent sigh of twenty or so Elites created a silent chaos while the Paragons could only watch with a sympathetic look on their faces.

The Elites casually strode towards the other end of the training courtyard, but not after giving Max a simple silent glance,

of which to his surprise didn’t contain any form of resentment or hostility.

Taking note of it, Max noticed an approaching figure.

Miles.

His bald head would have reflected the sunlight if not for the shadow of the towering Pagoda.

When he reached him, Miles beamed a fond smile.

"Surprised?" he asked, earning a silent nod from Max.

"The others now admire you for standing up to Miss May. We’ve put up with that bitch’s nonsense for so long already," Miles stated, sneering at the Instructor with a ’fuck you’ glare.

"Oh. Really?" Max replied calmly, wanting to know more.

"Hehehe." Miles laughed shortly and leaned closer.

"Her and the Ren guy often vanish anytime we are here.

He’s gotten a grasp of her too." Seemingly lamenting their fate against the Paragons, Miles adjusted his gi and led the way.

"And you guys never tried to report to the school authority or something?" Max asked, piqued.

"Hehehe." Miles replied with a short mocking laugh.

"Unfortunately, not everyone is as unlucky as you."

"There’s a saying; You don’t ask to see the Provost. You report on desk when the Provost asks to see you.

Quite plain, innit?"

"Hmm." Max nodded.

"Don’t worry, you’ll understand soon enough. Since you’re likely to receive an expulsion tomorrow."

Just as he was about to ask why, Max saw the set of exercises being exhibited.
