Chapter 1229: Chapter 1229 Return 2

“Thank you, sister-in-law!” He Zhilan expressed her gratitude, looking around the house and immediately feeling a sense of returning home.

“No need to thank me, it’s a small matter. You’ve been on the train for so long, you must be tired. Hurry back to your room and rest.” The commissar’s wife wasn’t being overly polite and urged He Zhilan to rest. Having been a mother herself, she knew pregnant women tire easily and need to rest.

He Zhilan nodded, looking at He Teng, “Brother, I’ll go rest first. If anyone comes to visit, please entertain them for now.”

He Teng knew that He Zhilan was truly tired. After exchanging a few words with the commissar’s wife, and once they had all left, he quickly helped He Zhilan to her room.

“Dongxue and the others will come to the troop to see you tomorrow. Rest well today. Tonight, I’ll check with the cafeteria to see what they can prepare for you. Is there something you want to eat?”

He Teng was very gentle, helping He Zhilan onto the bed. Then, he helped her, now awkward with her visible belly and invisible feet, take off her shoes and covered her with a blanket, while chatting with her.

“Anything’s fine. I’ll just eat whatever is made in the cafeteria tonight. There’s nothing I particularly crave, but tomorrow morning I want to have two bowls of soy milk!” He Zhilan smiled, touching her belly, and gave He Teng two thumbs up. “One bowl for me, one bowl for the baby in my belly!”

He Teng couldn’t help but grin. Ever since He Zhilan got pregnant, he hadn’t had to worry about her eating. While staying at the border troops for those few days, seeing He Zhilan’s appetite increase greatly, he felt extremely comfortable. He especially liked watching He Zhilan happily eat her meals.

While the wives of others had long bouts of morning sickness during pregnancy, his wife didn’t have any reaction at all. She could eat and sleep well, no wonder her once small face had gained quite a bit of fullness.

He Teng stayed beside He Zhilan for barely five minutes before she fell asleep, showing just how exhausting the journey had been.

Once He Zhilan was deeply asleep, He Teng left home to report to the office.

All the way there, he was the focus of everyone’s attention. However, seeing his serious face, those not familiar with him didn’t have the nerve to approach and ask directly.

“Report!” He Teng stood at the office door of the senior, saluting, “He Teng reporting back!”

“Come in.” The senior was talking with a few others and upon seeing He Teng, smiled, “Finally brought your little wife back? You rascal, keeping it such a secret.”

“Had no choice.” He Teng didn’t explain further because those who understood would understand, and for those who didn’t, no amount of explanation would help.

Luckily, the senior wasn’t confused and understood the circumstances behind He Teng’s ‘had no choice.’

The senior talked business with He Teng in the office and didn’t bring up He Zhilan again. As it approached meal time, he didn’t keep He Teng any longer, letting him leave on his own.

Seeing He Teng in such a hurry, the senior couldn’t stop laughing, “This kid finally brought his wife back, no wonder he keeps rushing off! It’s no wonder he was always bringing stuff to his wife every few days—people were worried something was wrong with his head. Little did they know, he was hiding it so well, no one could tell.”

Though the senior joked about him, He Teng overheard but didn’t mind, wanting to hurry to the cafeteria, worried his young wife might wake up hungry.

However, halfway there, Chen Zheng called him over, only to find out the commissar’s wife had prepared a table full of good food, inviting him and He Zhilan to come for dinner.
