"And Aunt Lin!" Bian Muhe adjusted his glasses and spoke earnestly, "I’ve heard that once the weekend arrives, Aunt Lin is incredibly enthusiastic about having our little sister Dongxue come to the Lin Family home, eat, and stay for two days, all while thinking about nourishing Dongxue’s body with soups and broths. Aunt Lin, who never used to cook, has really studied up on these things now. Last time she came to my house, she spent an entire afternoon discussing them with my mom."
"The Lin folks are really biased. I’ve grown up with them, and not even for one meal a day, let alone four, have I been treated as attentively as Chan. Next time I see Aunt Lin, I’m going to protest too!" Bian Xiulin grinned slyly, "Little sister Dongxue, when you go to the Lin Family next weekend, make sure to call us along!"
"Bian Xiulin, cut it out! Do you need the young master to wait on you? Don’t force me to spill the beans on those things Xing Ye did over the years!" Lin Chan, being quite thick-skinned, showed no embarrassment from being teased but rather looked at He Dongxue, huffed a bit, "I care about my future wife, what are you all so envious about? My mom cares for her future daughter-in-law, what are you all jealous of?"
And He Dongxue, acting as if she were deaf, pretended not to hear. In reality, her ears were already burning fiercely. But she dared not be discovered, so she deliberately kept her head down, chatting with Xing Jiaqing and his sibling.
The group went to He Teng and He Zhilan’s small army home, which was originally quite spacious for the couple. With more people, it instantly became lively and bustling.
Because He Zhilan was heavily pregnant and found it inconvenient, He Teng prepared lunch by coming home early, and the dishes were bought by his sister-in-law who helped out by purchasing them from the city earlier.
Upon entering, everyone greeted He Teng. Bian Xiulin, who had never visited the army place before, wandered around the house, directly praising its comfortable decor.
The two little kids, especially curious, stood by the window watching the young soldiers in green uniforms pass outside, their eyes wide and deeply engrossed.
"Alright, watch after lunch," He Zhilan waved to the two little kids, then pointed at He Teng who was coming out of the kitchen, "If you’re really keen to watch, then fix your eyes on your Uncle He! Your Uncle He is even more handsome than them!"
"Oh my, He Zhilan, you’re really shameless!" Bian Muhe laughed, "How old is He Teng already, and yet you still think he’s good-looking? All that training has tanned him dark like charcoal. When your house is dark at night, can you even see your He Teng?"
He Zhilan rolled her eyes at Bian Muhe, didn’t respond, and, holding a kid in each hand, headed for the dining table, inviting everyone to come eat.
He Teng’s cooking skills have genuinely improved a lot from before; He Dongxue particularly agrees with this.
"Didn’t I have a miscarriage early last year? To encourage me to eat more, He Teng kept making all sorts of delicious dishes for me, probably honing his culinary skills during that time," He Zhilan explained with a smile, "But when it comes to cooking, in our family, our second eldest is genuinely the best! Dad taught him, but now he cooks even better than Dad."
"That’s true! After spending the New Year at home, what I miss most is second brother’s cooking! So I’ve been urging him and Dad to come to the capital, that way I’d be able to enjoy delicious meals every day!" He Dongxue nodded continually, sighed, "Sadly, I couldn’t persuade them."
"Little sister Dongxue, with you saying this, Chan next to us might get upset." Bian Xiulin chimed in, "Chan has put in no small effort to ensure you eat well and drink well, oh~ Surely you should praise Chan for his hard work, even if he hasn’t achieved much!"
