Chapter 74: Every One of Them Is a Hero
CHAPTER 74: CHAPTER 74: EVERY ONE OF THEM IS A HERO
I have no idea where the massive energy consumed by these frantically proliferating cells is coming from.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Lu Ren wasted the empty magazine and leaped out of the previously broken window without looking back.
His speed was remarkably swift, akin to a cunning rabbit escaping its cage, swift as an arrow.
"Damn it..."
Seeing Lu Ren vanish without a glance over his shoulder, Rita couldn’t help but mutter a curse in her heart. The randomly picked person was indeed unreliable, she thought, turning to look at the crazily proliferating, almost four-meter-tall, female-bodied tumor monster.
Truly, it was as if oil had been smeared on their feet, and the massive tower-like figure disappeared swiftly like a rat.
...
...
"This place really can’t be trusted..."
Lu Ren, crouching temporarily on a relatively safe rooftop’s eaves, muttered to himself. This spot offered an excellent view, clearly showing the ongoing fierce battle between Asura and Luo Tiancheng in the distance.
The Asura looked utterly miserable at this moment, two of its four arms severed, with blood gushing from all over its cracked body. Nonetheless, its icy evil qi remained overwhelming.
On the contrary, Luo Tiancheng’s aura was growing weaker, and the blood-like flame surrounding him appeared increasingly thin. Although his eyes still emitted intense rays like the sun, and his Blood Qi True Gang soared like wolf smoke to the heavens, Lu Ren was certain the other side wouldn’t last much longer.
Changing positions, Lu Ren leaned against a corner under the eaves, observing the entire inner city of Chentai. Screams, enraged shouts, calls, collapsing buildings, and the clattering of fierce battles filled the air till it seemed never-ending. It’s likely that by dawn, the entire Chentai City would be completely fallen.
Thinking of this, Lu Ren felt a slight sinking in his heart; if Chentai City becomes a Ghostly Realm, surviving the last moments would be incredibly hard. He had to escape!
Having understood this, Lu Ren hesitated no longer and immediately changed directions, rushing again toward the inner city Governor’s Mansion’s side hall.
Midway, he directly encountered the crouching and escaping Rita.
Upon seeing Lu Ren charging toward her, Rita’s eyes widened instantly. Just as she was about to speak, Lu Ren stopped abruptly.
"Enough with dragging other things; staying here means death, not staying means death too. Rather than this, why not seize a chance to survive?"
Rita hesitated to stop; a look of indecision crossed her face. Seeing this, Lu Ren mocked with a laugh: "Retreat, it’s just living a few more hours, dying sooner or later anyway."
"Mad!" Rita’s eyes hardened, slapping her thigh: "Let’s do it! I’ll get someone!"
With that, Rita took out a small bamboo tube from her pocket, twisting it with her hand.
Whoosh!
A firework shot into the sky, blossoming into splendid fireworks mid-air.
Unexpectedly, fireworks could be produced in this world, surely indicating a familiarity with using gunpowder rightly. Yet, why hasn’t gunpowder-based weaponry emerged?
Boom!
At this moment, a loud collision sound diverted Lu Ren’s attention from his thoughts. It was Li Xiaoguo from the Demon Extermination Bureau making a heavy strike against the now three-armed Asura.
The air visibly rippled, causing the buildings around them to pop inch by inch, and the street’s stone pavement to shatter and scatter.
Often, several reasons prevent technological advancement. When the productivity of this world sufficiently supports the pinnacle of individual power, societal development stagnates.
A single person becomes an army!
Observing Luo Tiancheng displaying such combat prowess, Lu Ren’s mind could only harbor such thoughts. Even if this man were placed in modern society, without sufficient firepower to exhaust his Blood Qi Power, killing him would likely be difficult.
Someone with the capability to strike against a city.
Especially within this world’s cultivation system relying on Blood and Qi Power, without its sustenance, the physique remains extremely robust due to its infusion.
It seems Luo Tiancheng intends to drag Asura down with him.
Lu Ren held immense respect for this in his heart and immediately followed the grieving and furious Rita ahead.
...
...
Three minutes later, at the corner of the Governor’s Mansion side hall, Lu Ren observed the six men and two women gathered by Rita, all robust and muscular. Their movements made muscles bulge like small mice scurrying around.
Indeed, those two women, like their male counterparts, had muscles as thick as tendons, and every action was filled with a sense of power. Standing just three meters away, one could already feel the heat emanating from their physiques.
Yet each person’s body bore scars, which, however, in the presence of these fierce champions with their momentum, only amplified their ruggedness.
Rita glanced around, clasping his fists and murmured deeply: "Everyone, Chentai City’s fall is inevitable. The outer city has become a Ghostly Realm, and the Governor’s Mansion’s inner city is on the verge of collapse. Staying here would mean inevitable death."
He gestured toward the side hall: "Inside the side hall, there’s a secret passage leading directly thirty miles outside Chentai City to Zhaofeng Pavilion, our sole chance."
A rough fellow with a long braided hair, covered in tattoos, spoke in a buzzing voice: "Why hesitate? Brother Li, let’s hurry, I am fed up staying in this wretched place."
Saying so, the braided brute spat angrily and adjusted the Door-Board Greatsword strapped to his back, showcasing helpless anger: "Chentai City’s already finished, the millions within, trapped like fish in a barrel..."
While the top experts, Li Xiaoguo’s Demon Extermination Bureau Black-clothed Envoy Luo Tiancheng and Asura’s duel defeat is only a matter of time, without his control over Asura, the Governor’s Mansion’s inner city would likely fall instantly.
As for Chentai City’s Governor, Li Bing, although a first-class Martial Path expert, only barely resists hopelessly.
"Indeed, throughout the journey, residents’ screams have never ceased; upon saving one, another meets a gruesome end at the hands of Evil Ghosts!" said a Vajra-type female warrior, filled with grief and anger yet powerless.
In such comprehensive invading wars, individual power becomes very insignificant.
"This Yang Membrane’s breach involves more complicated matters! Surely some Border Army members have had their minds invaded by Underworld entities," stated one cold-faced, extremely composed man.
Rita exclaimed: "Everyone, events have transpired, further speculation is pointless. Our priority is fleeing Chentai City for a chance."
He motioned towards the side hall: "The secret path lies within, yet an Evil Ghost, Slippery Gourd, blocks its way!"
"Slippery Gourd?!"
The crowd’s faces mirrored shock and disbelief.
Among them, someone spoke in a tone filled with utter despair.
"It’s already tough enough dealing with Asura; now there’s Slippery Gourd too?!"
Rita shook his head helplessly: "With the Underworld invasion, many monsters have emerged; the only solace is Slippery Gourd isn’t as strong as Asura. If it had Asura’s power, we’d be doomed."
Steadily observing all along, Lu Ren saw that none among the nine, including Rita, were weak. All were Martial Path experts, making it surprising how Rita summoned them with just fireworks.
