Chapter 77: Firelight
CHAPTER 77: CHAPTER 77: FIRELIGHT
Whenever someone at the back discovers that the Slippery Gourd is approaching quickly and is unable to escape, they immediately stop, turn around, and rush to fight, buying time for those behind to flee.
Even after repeated activation of the Dragon-breaking Stone by Rita, it couldn’t halt the steps of the pursuing demon.
People keep dying, some couldn’t bear the torment of the countdown to death, and they turn around in a frenzy to fight back, but under regional constraints, even with sharp weapons, the damage inflicted on the Slippery Gourd remains insufficient, resulting in their hunting.
In this narrow tunnel, they all seem to become prey, with the Slippery Gourd deliberately delaying to torment them.
"We’ve arrived!"
Rita, holding back all along, let out a low roar, took a step, leaped high, and crashed through the iron plate above, exiting the tunnel first.
Lu Ren followed closely behind, feeling a slight relief once feet touched solid ground.
The oppression in the tunnel nearly drove them mad.
This is an outpost on a hill outside Chentai City, taking in the view, the calamity within the city is apparent.
Inside the city, fires rage everywhere, bodies lie scattered, blood dyes the canal trenches red, creating a scene of terror!
When they come out, only three remain, including Lu Ren, Rita, and a man with a constantly cold look.
"Everyone else died."
The cold-faced man couldn’t maintain his composure any longer, filled with sorrow and anger.
"Nuoshan..."
Rita opened his mouth but finally sighed without saying a word.
Lu Ren’s ears slightly twitched, he said in a deep voice: "The Slippery Gourd is coming out."
He scanned the surroundings, pulled out the magazine for a glance, then retrieved some high-explosive incendiary bullets from a pouch behind him, pressing them into the magazine one by one.
Calm and swift, without any trembling hands.
"Your hidden weapon is impressive."
Rita watched Lu Ren’s actions and first praised him, then with anger, said: "Ensure you attack him from a distance where the Slippery Gourd can’t see, only then can it be hurt!"
Lu Ren asked: "Any specifics?"
"It can’t defend against unexpected attacks and has no means of recovery."
Rita spoke seriously: "This was summarized by a martial path expert who killed the Slippery Gourd before; your hidden weapon has strong power, making it easier to deal with monster creatures like the Slippery Gourd."
So that’s it.
Without further hesitation, Lu Ren immediately stepped into the corner, disappearing into the shadows.
"Aren’t you afraid he’ll run away?" Nuoshan spoke at this time.
Rita smiled wryly: "There’s no need, his chances of escape are greater than ours."
He turned to stare at the dark tunnel exit, full of bitter rage, yet deeply suppressed, sighed: "I got you all into trouble, I don’t want to leave, Nuoshan, the Slippery Gourd already has its sights on us, I’ll hold it off here, you should go."
Nuoshan shook his head slightly: "Why do you say that, Brother Rita, staying in the city is death, coming out there’s still a glimmer of hope, since the escape route is already used, Chentai City is destroyed as expected! Since you don’t want to leave, let’s stick together."
Rita: "I don’t know... when we’ll see the dawn."
Nuoshan was about to speak but saw the Slippery Gourd emerge from the tunnel.
He immediately snorted, said nothing further, shrugged his shoulders, and stared with fiery anger at the approaching Slippery Gourd.
"I’ll go first."
As soon as he finished, he had already stirred up Qi and blood, gripping the great sword, sprinting towards the Slippery Gourd; Rita barely lagged behind, even stepping forward first midway, wielding the great sword at the Slippery Gourd.
The intense battle between the two and the Slippery Gourd was fully visible to Lu Ren hidden in the distant rock crevice; it had to be said that Rita and Nuoshan’s full combat capabilities far exceeded those of prior brothers, fierce men.
Fighting against the now martial path adept Slippery Gourd, they’d give and take, the ground was covered in cracked blue stone slabs, scattering of debris, their great swords striking deep into the Slippery Gourd, exposing bone, yet recovering quickly.
Both sides were fighting with lethal intent, each move carried incredible power, the ground was shaking apart, the weapon swings cutting through the air with fearsome sounds.
The three here could each casually exist as small superhumans on Earth.
Lu Ren quietly calculated the distance.
Less than fifty meters, his specialized handgun holds maximum energy power within a hundred meters.
The only issue is whether he can hit accurately.
Lu Ren didn’t hold much confidence in his shooting skills, but there was still room for improvement, at least under the focused contemplation of the Heartless Sword, his focus and vision would be a notch sharper.
If only it could form into a skill.
Come on!
Lu Ren took a deep breath, replaced a gun, holding with both hands, using the mechanical sight as the midpoint line, maintaining his arm muscles in a balance between relaxation and tension.
Nuoshan resisted a punch from the Slippery Gourd with great effort, sliding back four or five meters, his feet dug two grooves into the ground, his numb hands gripping the door-board greatsword which astonishingly had a fist seal imprinted on it.
His tiger’s mouth was ruptured!
Nuoshan couldn’t help but say: "Did he already run away?"
With a surge of strength, he temporarily repelled the Slippery Gourd; Rita exhaled, somewhat exerted: "I don’t know."
"Your judgment of people is really questionable!"
Nuoshan said with a bit of sorrow: "If only my Rock Sword Scripture could further refine, transforming Qi and blood into True Gang, killing it would be as easy as killing a chicken!"
"Ha!" Rita laughed: "Don’t say such grand words, anyway, we two have to die here."
Watching the repelled Slippery Gourd twist its neck forward, the two rushed forward again, yet with nearly exhausted energy, they could only desperately fend off.
The rapidly approaching Slippery Gourd increased its strength, causing Rita and the two to change color drastically.
With one punch, it knocked Nuoshan’s door-board greatsword aside, the immense force made his body lean back uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, the Slippery Gourd’s other hand swept like a fan, the massive force causing the air to whistle, the wind blew in their faces.
This palm spelled certain death!
Nuoshan had no time to think too much, only vaguely hearing Rita’s angry roar.
Yet what he saw was the Slippery Gourd’s left shoulder suddenly erupting in a blaze, followed by a burst of blood, the massive body tilting uncontrollably, then a giant arm severed at the shoulder, the wound burning with raging flames.
Bang!
At this moment, Nuoshan heard a slightly familiar sound next to his ear.
It was the hidden weapon crafted by Lu Ren!
The sound was deep and powerful, trembling the hearts of those who heard.
As the Slippery Gourd regained its footing, the second shot rang out, creating a massive bleeding hole in its waist and ribs, the flames sticking like bone-dwelling maggots, burning into the flesh relentlessly.
The Slippery Gourd’s face finally changed from its constant smile, it quickly scanned around, its expression serious.
"Where, where..."
Boom! Another shot rang out, directly blasting the knee of the Slippery Gourd!
"Found it!"
Noticing the fire emerging from a distant rock corner, the Slippery Gourd seemed unfazed by the slightest pain, leaping with one leg, diving towards the source of gunfire.
