CHAPTER 48: MUST’VE OVERDONE IT

"Ah, shit. I overdid it." Silas frowned as he stared at the woman who’d crashed into the fence of a house some metres away from them. He turned to Ether, "Why’d you leave me?"

"Pfft. You could have taken care of yourself." Ether rolled her eyes, shifting her glance to the side, crossing her arms under her breasts. She sniffed the air then gave Silas a look.

Silas raised a brow, wondering what she’d noticed. He looked around, but except for all the scared and running regulars, he couldn’t see anything strange, "I have a terrible nose."

"It’s the people from before," Ether frowned, inching closer to Silas as she scanned the area with her eyes. They were close to were she recalled the base, but ’something’ was off.

"Maybe they regrouped?" Matilda blurted out, cracking her neck and stepping behind Silas with Ether. She observed the ’hostiles’ approaching, using the scared crowd as cover.

Silas gave Matilda a strange look out the corner of his eye, then his pupils narrowed to needlepoint as they snapped to his left. Someone was charging at him with a blade in hand.

’Did guns go out of fashion?’ Silas mocked internally as he transformed his entire body, shielding his skin with armoured metallic plates. He scoffed, turning to face the armed guy.

As the short black haired man swung his sword in an arc, after closing the distance to a few steps, Silas raised his hand to block. In that instant, Silas’ smug look turned into shock.

The blade, as it rebounded from the impact, drew a line of blood along. Ether who was standing right behind Silas, watched this with wide eyes and a loose jaw. She was stumped.

"H— How did they break that defence so easily?" Ether asked as she watched Silas bleed out from the wound on his arm. Matilda gave her a questioning look, but Ether ignored her.

"It’s made from the same material as your claws." The man said as he entered a stance, taking a deep breath and locking his gaze on Ether, "Right now, I will definitely defeat you."

Just as he took a step forward, there was a gust of wind, then his head was sent flying in a splatter of gore. His body staggered forward, then collapsed on the blade in a slow fall.

"We don’t have time for this." Silas groaned, then his pupils snapped into four different directions in a single instance. He left a fading mirage as he dashed towards eight locations.

There were three men, and two women. Upon seeing Silas, two of them opened fire on sight, leaving holes in his metallic armour as Silas shred through them with his bare hands.

They couldn’t even leak out a shriek before he ripped them apart, splattering flesh and blood all over the dimly lit corners they’d hid in. Their remains were a botch over the walls.

The other three, a woman and the two men, turned around to run. Silas shook his head watching them scrambling out of their hiding places as he returned to his original location.

"Oh, wow." Ether exclaimed as she counted all the people Silas chased out of their cosy little hiding spots, a smile formed on Ether’s face as she watched them run across the road.

One of the men, wearing a black coat with a hat over his head, turned around to see his comrades left in the dust and the weird eyed men just watching from afar. He smiled in joy.

Even if he started killing now, he was sure he could escape! As he repeated that thought to himself, he shifted his focus back to the road then he kept running without looking back.

He heard a distant whistling sound, then shifting his glance to stare at the left. It was a flash of light and before his brain could comprehend anything, a force slammed in his chest.

The air was knocked out of his lungs, and time slowed to a crawl. He wheezed, vomiting blood into the air as his entire body caved in from the force, then he was blown into the air.

As he spiralled in the air, his blood and organs scattering across the road, he shifted his glance towards where Silas once stood. Silas stood there, staring at him with a calm smirk.

He crashed into a building— what was left of him, that is. The others slowed to a halt a second later, their entire bodies trembling with fear as they observed the area for anything.

"It’s no fun when they aren’t running." Ether said as stood in the distance. She had her claws scratching the gates of the nearby house, blood dripping from her claws, "I’m tired."

The brown haired woman, who was wearing a short black dress, lost the strength in her trembling legs, then collapsed to her knees. The man who stood beside her could only stare.

"No need to be so afraid, we are going to let you two live." Silas said as he walked forth with his hands in his pockets, shifting back to his human form, "If you do as we tell you to."

The woman, who was trembling just a few seconds ago, caught it out the corner of her eyes then hurled her blade at the exposed Silas in a skilled throw pumped with adrenaline.

The blade halted mere inches away from stabbing into Silas’ chest, while he lowered his gaze to stare at its gleaming edge. He shrugged then shook his head, "You made this easier."

Before she could react, he vanished from her sight then appeared crouching only inches away from her. Her eyes widened as he reached out and grabbed her neck in one fell swoop.

The man, who swung his blade in an attempt to defend her was grabbed by telekinesis, tossed to the side like a rag doll. Silas slammed the woman’s head into the road, "Let’s talk."

She gasped for air, grabbing and clawing to no avail. Silas dug her head deep in the dirt, resisting the urge to crush her like a watermelon. He needed information first— a lot of info.
