Chapter 227: You Don’t Understand
CHAPTER 227: YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND
Katarina’s breath was coming out in harsh puffs as she glared at Jason heatedly! This was the first time Jason would see her express so much emotion, and Jason weathered all of it with a calm look on his face. Jason had gotten a lot of information out of Katarina’s rant just now. The first bit of information was the fact that Katarina had been far more affected by the presence of the Primordial than Cersai thought. When the Rulers first went into the Gate, they had only been S Rank individuals. The five of them were the strongest that humanity could offer, but Jason knew without a doubt that they were not powerful enough to handle what was inside a Green Gate!
S Ranks would find it difficult to even take on Yellow Gates, so Green Gates would be far beyond their limits! So the Rulers must’ve gone through hell inside that gate before Jason’s father arrived to help them. But what really stuck with Jason was the fact that Katarina was telling him to end his own life. She made it seem like his existence was what would determine whether or not the human race would end.
Liam’s face had taken on an expression of complete confusion as he listened to the conversation. Not only did he not know what Katarina was talking about, but seeing the normally calm Katarina look so terrified while talking about her trip into the Green Gate made him realize just how serious this was! Katarina was the weakest of the five Rulers, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t powerful! Anything that would make her look like this was enough to put true fear into him!
Liam stepped forward.
"Jason, what is she talking about—?"
Jason suddenly put his hand up to stop Liam’s words, and Liam immediately paused his advance. Jason didn’t even bother turning around to regard him, and that was enough of a dismissal for Liam to know that Jason didn’t want him interfering. Liam wisely chose to stay silent and he listened as Jason continued his questions.
"Was that why you were trying to kill me? You think taking my life will prevent the Primordial from killing everyone?"
Katarina was still breathing heavily, but now her head was bowed, and she was staring at the ground as she spoke.
"Yes, I do."
Jason huffed and said,
"Then you’re a fool."
Katarina suddenly looked back up at Jason and she felt surprise pass through her when she saw Jason’s condescending look. Jason pointed his sword at her and spoke like a man giving advice to a child.
"You went into a Green Gate and met a monster capable of destroying the world if it were unleashed, and for some reason, you decided that your best course of action would be to kill the one person capable of standing against them? You know, I thought you were only a coward for using the lives of so many people to protect your pitiful existence, but I was wrong. You’re nothing but a pathetic little girl. A fool who doesn’t even know the meaning of the word ’courage’."
Jason stood from the bench and towered over Katarina. Both of them were around the same level of power, but at that moment, Katarina didn’t feel any of the superiority that she would normally feel when facing off against another superhuman. She felt small and powerless as she gazed up at Jason.
"Rather than finding a way to fight back against that monster, you decided to lock yourself in a self-made prison and you allowed your subordinates to carry out your dirty work so you didn’t have to feel guilty about the twisted things they did. You’re nothing but a parasite, Katarina. A parasite that feeds on the life of others and runs away when things don’t go your way."
Katarina allowed her head to fall once again. Jason just didn’t understand. He hadn’t been there when they met that monster, so there was no way he would be able to comprehend the sheer monstrosity that was coming for them. They couldn’t fight back against something like that. It didn’t matter if all the humans on Earth ganged together under one banner or if they built the strongest weapon their minds could conceive! It still would not be enough! The only thing they could do was to follow its orders and hope that it would show them mercy when it returned.
"You just don’t understand..."
Katarina muttered quietly, and Jason turned away from her when he suddenly got a message from the Phantom he sent to kill Tobias Grant. One of the Phantoms had found the BloodRaven vice-captain in a secluded mansion a couple of miles away from the airport. It called on the other Phantoms and they made their way toward where Tobias was. Tobias was surrounded by his guild members, and the moment Tobias noticed a change in the atmosphere, he immediately knew that there was something hiding in the shadows.
The Phantom attacked the group and the ten Pawn Rank Rook-Subordinates held off the other guild members while Alpha went after Tobias! Tobias’ Gift allowed him to create long whips made from flames and he used it masterfully to try and kill Alpha, but Alpha was more than capable of handling herself in a fight. Tobias was only an A Rank, so his speed and strength were around the same level as what Alpha had, but unlike Tobias who was fighting for his life, Alpha didn’t have the fear of death holding her back, and that was more than enough to create a significant difference in power between them!
Alpha charged at Tobias while expertly dodging his whips and the moment she got close enough, she used her poison blade to leave a long cut along his arm! Tobias cursed as he quickly slashed his whip across the air to drive Alpha back and Alpha moved back and simply stood at a distance. Jason watched through the [Eye of the King] as Tobias’s stance began to become unsure. Tobias staggered and stumbled as he moved forward, and sweat began to pour from his forehead as his vision swam. The knife that Alpha had used to attack Tobias was the same poisoned blade held by every member of the Phantoms, and all it took was that single cut for Tobias to begin losing himself.
The poison in the blade became less potent the stronger a person was, so unlike Gina, who had fallen down after only a few seconds of being cut, it took Tobias nearly a whole minute before he fell to one knee. He put his hand on his head and let out a grunt as the poison started to work through his body and it wasn’t even two minutes later when he fell face first into the dirt.
Alpha walked up to Tobias’ prone body and she drew the sai at her waist. She turned his body over and looked into his wide, suffering eyes before plunging the sai into his neck to kill him in one go.

Jason released a calm sigh when he got this message. At least the person who planned to kill him was dead, so he didn’t have to worry about them targeting his family for now. Jason glanced at Katarina, and he hummed when he saw the look of confusion on her face. Katarina was staring at the floor with wide eyes and she seemed to have just realized something terrible. Jason was confused for a few seconds about what could have happened, but he suddenly smiled when he realized what it was.
"So you can feel when your subordinates die as well?"
