CHAPTER 242: IS HE FROM THE INSTITUTE?

[With the Immortal Lich]

Logof, the immortal lich, turned away from the journal he had been reading when he felt something strange in the distance. His eyes narrowed as he felt an explosion echo through the world and he couldn’t help but wonder what the hell was going on out there. Logof had sent his subordinates to eradicate the wanderer who came into this world a few minutes ago, and he had already predicted that it wouldn’t take more than twenty minutes for him to be killed. Even though he was powerful, that didn’t mean he could handle an entire horde of monsters on his own.

But all those thoughts flew out the window the moment he realized that there was something off about this wanderer. The Immortal Lich could see through the eyes of his subordinates, and from what he had seen, it was obvious that this man had no intention of leaving! The Immortal Lich thought the man would try to fight against his subordinates so he could run away, but it was almost like the man was actively trying his best to stay in this world! The man was fighting his subordinates and slowly coming closer to the Lich’s location!

’Did he come here to look for me? Is he one of the Magical Institute’s researchers?’

The Lich had this thought as he stared out of the cave and into the darkened sky, but he decided that this couldn’t be the case. The Magic Institute would never send a single person to do their dirty work. They had a military that carried out their subjugation missions, and if they ever discovered where he was, then the Lich was sure that they would send hundreds of soldiers to apprehend him. That meant this man was an independent warrior who had his own reasons for fighting.

The Lich watched the battle between the intruder and his subordinates, and he couldn’t help but be impressed. The intruder had hundreds of subordinates of his own, and they were all obeying his orders perfectly.

’Were they summons of some kind? They fight with unbelievable ferocity. This man must be an expert tamer if he can make magic beasts throw their lives away so easily for him.’

The Lich has still not seen Jason resurrecting any of his subordinates, so the Lich couldn’t tell that the Legion were also an immortal army. The Lich simply thought that Jason had hundreds of monster subordinates and was using them expertly. Jason was slowly pushing against the hundreds of undead minions that the Lich had sent to kill him, and the Lich decided that he would need to bring out some of his stronger subordinates if he wanted to finish this quickly.

’Paladins, go and finish off the intruders.’

The Lich gave the order while walking towards the edge of his cave, and he watched as the entire forest began to shake as his Paladins slowly emerged from the ground.

...

The Paladins were a group of fifty powerful soldiers that the Lich had captured a few years ago. Each of them was extremely tall, towering over the forest by close to twenty feet, and they wore dull gold armor over their bodies. They each had a tall shield in one hand and a sword in the other, and when they walked, the ground under their feet shook from the intensity of their movement. They were all S Rank in strength, strong enough to rival any Rook Rank II beast that was part of Jason’s Legion.

Jason and Ragnar were still busy unleashing fire on the large horde of undead monsters when Jason heard rumbling coming from the forest. Jason told Ragnar to stop, and the beast turned around to face the forest properly. The sound of the monsters moving was already reaching the battlefield, but they were still very far away, so Jason used the [Eye of the King] on one of his subordinates who was close, and he felt his eyes widen in surprise when he saw the fifty giant giants that were coming towards them!

Jason cursed internally and quickly began to think of what to do. Many of his subordinates were already at a point where they could be upgraded to the next Rank, and Jason quickly began to perform calculations in his head to see which ones he needed to upgrade first.

——

Kill Points: 115,232

——

Mana Points: 57,426/73,756

——

Raya had finally reached a hundred percent in her progression, so Jason could upgrade her, but Ragnar was still at 91%, and Jason needed to fight a bit longer and kill more monsters before he could upgrade him. It would take fifteen thousand Kill Points to upgrade Ragnar, so Jason just had to make sure he held onto those fifteen thousand so he could use them on Ragnar later and he woudl use as many kill points as possible to upgrade the others!

[Would the user like to convert 80,000 Kill Points to Upgrade Points? Yes/No?]

Jason chose yes, and he watched as the points shifted in his system. His kill points reduced to only about thirty thousand, and his upgrade points increased by eight hundred. Jason quickly scanned over all the Rook Rank subordinates in his Legion to see which ones had reached a hundred percent in their Rank Progression. The battle had only been going on for about an hour, but most of the monsters had been fighting nonstop, so most of them had reached a hundred percent already. The Skyking was the first one that caught Jason’s eyes, and Jason immediately tossed fifty Upgrade Points towards it and watched as it grew larger and stronger than before. Its feathers became more lustrous and tougher, and it let out a louder cry as it soared through the air and unleashed a rain of feathered arrows on the undead monsters below.

——

Mana Points: 59,426/75,756

——

Once Jason upgraded Skyking, he felt his own stats and mana increase as well, and he grinned as he also sent Upgrade Points to five Adamantine Ant Rooks Rank I’s that had gotten strong enough! Even though Jason couldn’t gain mana from resurrection, there were still many other ways to get more powerful! Jason watched as the Adamantine Ants grew in strength and began to push back the undead monsters, and his mana level rose again to account for the growth of his Legion.

That upgrade took up another two hundred and fifty upgrade points, and Jason only had five hundred left. The Swamp Viper Boss, Salazar, was fighting with the other monsters on one side, but Jason could tell that it was struggling since it wasn’t used to fighting in such a dry environment. It hadn’t even killed more than three monsters, and Jason decided that it was better to just use it to perform another Kamikaze.

Jason told Salazar to move deeper into the crowd of undead before killing itself, and the large serpent released a loud hiss as it began to slither through the horde. Jason then turned back to Raya and watched as she tore through multiple undead monsters on the ground! Raya let out a screech as she grabbed one of the monsters in her mandibles and then activated [Linear Charge] to blast straight through the horde that was trying to surround her!

TWOOM!

KA-BOOM!

A massive blast echoed throughout the region at the same time that Raya appeared on the other side of the battlefield, and Jason could tell without even looking that it was Salazar who had used Kamikaze to kill multiple undead monsters! Raya screeched as she threw the already dead monster she was holding to the side, and Jason quickly sent some upgrade points to her!
