Chapter 316: Let Me Be With You
CHAPTER 316: LET ME BE WITH YOU
"So long as we all play our parts properly and you follow my orders down to the letter, I don’t see us losing this battle for any reason."
That one statement seemed to boost the confidence of every single person in the room, and they all gained sharper gazes as they nodded to Jason! They knew that they were going into a battle that was completely different from what they were used to, but they believed in Jason’s ability to lead them, and they were willing to put their lives in Jason’s hands to gain victory! Jason was glad that they were listening to him, even though they were all strangers. The only way a battle like this would work is if there was a clear plan and an obvious hierarchy, and Jason knew that everything would have gone down the drain if there was even one person who had too much of an ego to listen.
Jason and the superhumans continued to lay out their plans for the next few minutes. Jason gave them a clear path on how they were going to attack and which subordinates each of them was going to be teaming up with. Some of the superhumans were only A rank, so Jason made sure to put weaker superhumans with stronger subordinates and vice versa so that they could complement each other properly.
Liam came forward after the planning was reaching its end, and he gave out comms to every member of the team and made them put them on. The comms were designed for clear communication over miles of distance, so the team didn’t need to worry about getting confused or lost from the others in case there was ever a change in plans.
Gina came up to Jason after the meeting, and she smiled up at him proudly. Gina already heard the plan from Jason earlier, but it was nice to watch Jason organise the group so effortlessly. Gina always knew that Jason would make a great leader.
’Are you ready?’
Jason spoke to Gina through their mental link, and Gina nodded seriously. Gina had convinced Jason to allow her to handle one of the Generals with the Legion, and even though Jason was skeptical, he eventually agreed since he knew that she would have a lot of subordinates there to back her up.
’Be careful with the Sovereign, alright? I know you already planned everything out, but don’t ever let your guard down.’
Gina took Jason’s head in her hands, and she held him softly while speaking directly into his mind. Gina couldn’t express how terrified she was for what Jason was about to do, and Jason could see how worried she was in her eyes. Jason smiled as he wrapped his hand around Gina’s waist and leaned down to kiss her. They separated a few seconds later, and Jason spoke calmly.
’I’ll be fine, babe. Trust me.’
Jason smiled at Gina made sure that she nodded back at him before he turned to speak to Riyala about what she was going to be doing in the fight. Jason and the other superhumans would be the ones handling the main fighting, but Riyala’s role was probably just as important, if not more important, than theirs. Even though Jason believed that they could win this fight with their tactic, it was still going to be a very hard battle for them. The Generals were tough opponents, and there were hundreds of thousands of soldiers that they would have to fight through. But all of that wouldn’t matter if Riyala managed to accomplish her own part of this mission quickly enough.
If Riyala gets the dragons and wyverns to agree to join them in the battle against the Sovereign, then it would tip the scales so much in Jason’s favour that it wouldn’t even matter who was going up against them! They would be able to win easily! But all of that depended entirely on Riyala! Jason put his hand on Riyala’s shoulder and looked her over as he raised a worried brow.
"You okay? You look like you’re about to throw up."
Riyala’s face was a little pale, and she gave Jason a slightly shaky smile when she heard his joke. Riyala was trying her best to be strong since she knew that Jason was depending on her, but when she thought about facing off against adult dragons, it still terrified her. Riyala had heard about the ferocity of the adult dragons and how much they hate having to meet with the dragonborn. Riyala wouldn’t be surprised if the dragons attacked her the moment she tried to get close to them!
"Hey, don’t look so scared. You’re going to be with Fenrir and a few other subordinates. If anything happens, they’ll back you up. And if things get too intense, then just get out of there, alright?"
Jason spoke up when he noticed how tense Riyala was, and Riyala nodded to him with a thankful smile. Riyala was about to say something, but a voice suddenly spoke up from the side and interrupted their conversation.
"Sir, Mr Jason."
Jason blinked in surprise when he heard the strange way the person addressed him, and he turned to see that it was the green-haired boy who had been the first to step forward earlier. The boy had a serious air about him that reminded Jason too much of a soldier, and Jason wouldn’t be surprised if the boy had once been in the military. The boy’s face told Jason that he was somewhere in his early twenties, so Jason could only wonder why someone older than him would be calling him sir.
Jason spoke up while turning to regard the boy with a nod.
"What can I do for you... What was your name?"
"Francis. My name is Luud Francis. I’m a member of the SMD Battle Agent division here in New Jersey, and I’ve been working with them for the past three years."
Jason nodded along to the boy’s introduction. Jason wasn’t surprised that the boy was part of a government agency from how formal he was. Jason asked Francis what he could do for him, and Francis seemed to hesitate for a moment before he finally said.
"I’ve been watching your actions for the past few weeks sir and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for what you’ve done for my city. A friend of mine was killed in this attack, but millions of lives were saved because you came back to help us. I know this might come off as strange since we’ve only just met, but I idolize the things that you stand for. You’ve overturned the state of the superhuman world multiple times, and you’ve forced some real change to happen with your actions. And well... I want to be with you, sir."
Jason blinked, and then he blinked again before his face suddenly scrunched up into a confused frown as he wondered what the actual fuck this bastard just said! At the side, Gina put her hand over her mouth as she tried not to burst into laughter, and Jason turned to give her a heated glare in annoyance! Gina waved apologetically as she suddenly laughed loudly, and no matter how much she tried, she just couldn’t stop! Jason rolled his eyes as he looked back at Francis! Francis didn’t even look like he understood why Gina was laughing, and he just kept looking up at Jason with the same serious expression as before! Jason took in a calming breath before he said.
"What exactly do you mean when you say you want to be with me?"
Francis blinked in surprise, almost like he couldn’t understand why it was so difficult for Jason to understand it, and Gina began coming down from her mad laughter as Francis said:
"When we finish this mission, I’d like to be with you. I want you to let me join your guild."
Oh, so that’s what he meant!
