The first sliver of awareness was the soft light filtering through the curtains, a gentle nudge into consciousness. The bed beside me was cool and empty. Levi was gone. A faint indentation on the pillow and the lingering scent of his cologne were the only evidence that he had been there at all.

The lingering haze of sleep clung to me as I finally roused myself from the bed. After a quick shower and a change of clothes, I made my way to the set. The familiar energy of the crew bustling around, the intricate set designs, the early morning chatter – it was a world away from the intimate stillness of Levi's embrace. But, that passionate hours took it’s toll on my body. While Levi was true to his word and essentially left no bruises or marks, my body was aching. Each step felt a little heavier, each gesture a little more labored. Even the familiar weight of my costume felt amplified.

The midday sun beat down on the dusty lot outside my trailer. As I exhaled a plume of smoke, two figures approached: Maya and Finn. The memories of yesterday started to wash over. Our dinner, our casual banter with Levi, and the worst… Finn’s idiotic blunder.

Maya's voice cut through my reverie, her tone a blend of genuine curiosity and diplomatic maneuvering. "Hey Raphael. I just wanted to say something about yesterday evening. Levi was a genuinely interesting person, wasn't he? A little… intense, perhaps," she offered with a knowing glance, "but undeniably a really gracious host. And Finn here has something he wants to say, right?" She punctuated her statement with a not-so-subtle nudge to Finn's arm.

Finn shuffled his feet, his usual boisterous energy replaced by a sheepish awkwardness. "Yeah, I was… uh… about yesterday," he stammered, avoiding eye contact. "I was… you know… acting like a complete child. I was out of line, sorry.”

"Finn," I said, shaking my head slightly, "I nearly pissed my pants, dude. Don't ever do that again. Trying to explain that… to Levi? Mortifying." I took another drag from my cigarette, the smoke a small punctuation to my lingering annoyance. “But it’s fine.” I conceded.

“Also, we brought something like a house warming gift.” Maya said.

“Gift? Oh, no, thanks. I should be one offering you gift for adhering to ridiculous security and such.”

Maya grinned, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Nonsense! Consider it a small token of our appreciation for your… hospitality last night. And for putting up with Finn."

Finn chimed in, looking slightly less sheepish than before. "Yeah, man. Just a little something we thought you might like. No pressure or anything."

As Maya presented the gift – a beautifully arranged box filled with an enticing selection of artisanal chocolates and colorful, exotic sweets – I couldn't help but smile. "Oh, wow," I said, genuinely touched. "Guys, this is incredibly kind of you. Thank you. Seriously. Levi will absolutely devour these," I added, picturing his delighted, albeit slightly possessive, reaction to such a decadent treat. A warmth spread through me. "This really means a lot."

Finn beamed, clearly pleased with my reaction. "Awesome, man! We saw them at that little shop near the harbor. They looked pretty legit." Maya nodded in agreement. "We figured after dealing with all the… drama… a little indulgence was in order." She exchanged a knowing glance with Finn, a subtle acknowledgment of the undercurrents of the previous night.

I chuckled, shaking my head. "You two are alright, you know that?" I cradled the box of chocolates carefully. "Seriously, thank you. I appreciate this more than you know. And, Levi was also cool with you two. So, If you ever want to have dinner, or drink, or maybe play games, please tell me.”

Finn's face lit up with genuine enthusiasm. "Seriously? That'd be awesome, Raphael! We're always up for a good time. And yeah, Levi was definitely… cool. In a, you know, not-trying-to-intimidate-us kind of way." He chuckled, the memory of his earlier awkwardness clearly fading.

Maya nodded in agreement, her smile warm and genuine. "We'd love that, Raphael. It would be great to get to know you both better outside of the set. Maybe after we wrap here? We could find a decent place in town."

“Oh, yeah about that. I still can not picture Levi in a decent place, so I think it would be better for all of us if we just let him choose it.”

Finn snorted with laughter. "Yeah, 'decent' might be a… flexible term when it comes to Levi. I'm picturing something with velvet ropes, maybe a bouncer who looks like he wrestles bears, and a cocktail menu written in ancient Ascarian."

Maya chuckled. "Or maybe it's a hidden gem only locals know about, with the best, most authentic food you've ever tasted..."

I grinned, shaking my head. "You're both probably closer to the truth than you realize. Levi has… eclectic tastes. But one thing's for sure, it won't be boring." A fond smile touched my lips at the thought of Levi orchestrating an evening out. It would undoubtedly be an experience. "So, yes. We'll let him choose. Prepare yourselves for anything."

With that, we finally rejoined the bustle of the set, the earlier conversation leaving a lighthearted anticipation for whatever Levi had in store. My thumb hovered over Levi's contact, a smile already forming on my lips. I could already imagine his response, a mixture of playful skepticism and underlying interest. As the call connected, I said, "Levi. Fancy another round with Maya and Finn?" I paused, letting the question hang in the air. "They're… surprisingly keen to experience your unique definition of a good time."

"Another go, you say?" Levi's voice, smooth as aged scotch, echoed through my phone. "Well, they survived the last encounter. Perhaps they possess a stronger constitution than I initially gave them credit for. I am… amenable. Though the venue selection remains my prerogative, wouldn't you agree?" A low chuckle rumbled on the other end. "When are we speaking of, pulla?”

“We were thinking today, after we wrap up the set.”

"Hmm, today," Levi mused, a slight pause on the other end. "That would require a swift and efficient wrap, wouldn't it? But for the pleasure of your company, and the continued… education of your friends, I believe I can make myself available. Shall I meet you all after you're done? And more importantly, my dear Raphael, where shall this momentous gathering take place?"

He clearly had some ideas brewing.

“Oh the venue is yours, completely, but for the sake of my friends, at least give us a dress code, yeah?”

"A dress code, for the sake of your… delicate friends? Very well, my dear. Consider it a sartorial advisory. Tonight's aesthetic shall be… 'elegantly unexpected.' Encourage them to embrace the unconventional. Comfort is paramount, but a touch of the dramatic would not go amiss. As for the location," his voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, "prepare for a sensory experience. I have a place in mind that will… challenge their perceptions."

I had no idea where he planned to take us, but I had a feeling it would be anything but ordinary.

“Levi, you basically said nothing while saying everything. Suit or jumpsuits? At least tell me that.”

A soft chuckle echoed through the phone. "Ah, my perceptive Raphael. You see through my veil of mystery. Very well, a hint for your sartorial consideration. Think sharp lines, luxurious fabrics, and an air of undeniable confidence. Whether that manifests as an impeccably tailored suit or a daringly chic jumpsuit is entirely up to your personal flair. The key is to look as though you belong anywhere... and nowhere at the same time."

“Damn. You did that again. Okay I will try to convey your dress code to my friends.”

As the wrapped up the set, I approached Maya and Finn. “Guys, Levi pulled some shit probably and I think we should wear something formal, if you do not have any clothes for the occasion, please let me pay.”

Maya's eyebrows shot up, a mixture of excitement and slight apprehension in her eyes. "Formal? Oh, this is getting interesting. I knew Levi wouldn't do anything low-key. I think I have something that might work – a long, flowy dress I wore to a premiere once. It's dramatic enough, I hope?"

Finn, however, looked slightly more concerned. "Formal? Uh oh. My wardrobe leans more towards 'comfortably disheveled.' I might have a button-down shirt somewhere that hasn't seen the light of day in months. But a suit? Definitely not in my suitcase." He looked at me with a hopeful expression. "You think a slightly less-than-crisp shirt and some decent pants will cut it? Or should I take you up on that generous offer?"

“Wait, Maya you are the perfect person for this job. He said ‘elegantly unexpected’. You think you can whip up something with that?”

Maya's eyes lit up, a creative spark igniting within her. "Elegantly unexpected? Oh, I live for this!" She tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Finn, don't worry about the dusty button-down. Raphael, darling, consider it handled. Between my emergency costume supplies and a little bit of improvisational genius, I can definitely conjure up something 'elegantly unexpected' for Finn. Think sharp lines, a touch of drama… maybe repurpose that slightly too-large tunic from the Aethelgardian market scene? With the right tailoring and some unexpected accessories…" Her voice trailed off as she mentally pieced together an outfit, a confident smile spreading across her face. "Trust me, by the time I'm done with him, he'll look like he walked straight out of a very stylish, slightly surreal dream."

“Yeah? Okay. You also pick something for me than. Thanks."

Maya clapped her hands together, her energy infectious. "Absolutely! Consider it my artistic duty. 'Elegantly unexpected' for you… hmm…" Her eyes scanned me up and down, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Given your natural grace and that devastatingly sharp jawline, I'm thinking something that plays with silhouette and texture. Perhaps a sleek, dark jumpsuit – something that whispers power but has an intriguing, almost otherworldly detail. Or maybe a sharply tailored suit in an unexpected color or fabric? Something that makes people look twice." She grinned. "Leave it to me. By the time Levi arrives, we'll both be turning heads in the most delightfully perplexing way."

With Maya buzzing with creative energy and Finn looking a mixture of apprehensive and intrigued, the mood shifted from the weariness of wrapping a long day to the excited anticipation of an unusual night out. "Alright, team 'Elegantly Unexpected' is officially in session!" Maya declared, already rummaging through her seemingly bottomless costume bag. "Finn, to my trailer!" She grabbed his arm, pulling him along with a determined glint in her eyes. Finn, despite a slight groan, allowed himself to be led away. "Just promise me there won't be any feathers involved, Maya," he called back over his shoulder, a hint of amusement in his voice. Maya just laughed, her voice echoing as they disappeared towards her trailer. "No promises!"

I watched them go, a smile playing on my lips. Trust Maya to embrace a sartorial challenge with such gusto. I had a feeling tonight was going to be anything but predictable, and I was actually looking forward to seeing what Levi had planned and what bizarrely chic creations Maya would conjure up. With a final check of my phone and a surge of anticipation, I headed towards my own trailer to get ready for an evening that promised to be, in true Levi fashion, elegantly unexpected.

The descent into the Caverns Lounge was like stepping into another dimension. The air hummed with a subtle energy, and the soft, otherworldly glow of the phosphorescent walls cast long, intriguing shadows. The melodic music seemed to weave through the very rocks.

Levi reclined on a luminous stone chaise lounge, a figure of elegant darkness against the vibrant glow. His eyes, sharp and knowing, swept over us as we entered. A slow smile spread across his lips, a silent acknowledgment of Maya's handiwork and our adherence to his cryptic dress code. "Welcome," his voice, a low rumble that seemed to resonate with the cavern itself, greeted us. "I trust the sartorial interpretations were… satisfactory?" His gaze lingered on each of us in turn, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes.

Stepping into the softly glowing cavern, the first thing that struck me was how perfectly Maya had captured Levi's ambiguous dress code for both Finn and me. Finn, usually a picture of comfortable disarray, looked surprisingly sharp. The deep indigo tunic, artfully draped and tailored, gave him an almost rakish air. The vibrant emerald scarf added that perfect touch of unexpected drama, a slash of color against the darker tones. He even seemed to carry himself with a newfound confidence, a far cry from his usual sheepish demeanor. As for me, the dark jumpsuit flowed around me like liquid night, the subtle iridescent shimmer catching the otherworldly light of the caverns in a way that felt both elegant and a little bit alien. The sharp neckline and the minimalist boots gave it a powerful silhouette, exactly the kind of understated confidence Levi often exuded. I had to admit, Maya had outdone herself. We both looked like we belonged in this strange, beautiful place, yet also like we were visitors from another realm.

Levi gestured with a languid hand towards the organically shaped seating arrangements carved from the luminous stone. "Please, make yourselves comfortable. Allow your senses to acclimate to the ambiance." His gaze flickered towards a nearby alcove where a bartender, seemingly carved from shadow, was meticulously preparing glowing cocktails. "May I offer you a nectar? A local specialty."

It was an atmosphere unlike anything I had ever experienced, a bizarre yet captivating blend of natural wonder and sophisticated lounge. I exchanged a curious glance with Maya and Finn, both of whom seemed equally intrigued and slightly bewildered by our surroundings. Levi, as always, had managed to orchestrate something truly unique. What even was this place? It was like they carved a bar inside a cave. Yeah, that exactly was it.

“Levi,” I said while my eyes were still trying to understand what was going on around me, “what even is this place? It also feels like we are underwater.”

"An astute observation, my dear Raphael. There is a certain… fluidity to the light and the acoustics here, isn't there? It's a natural phenomenon, the way the mineral deposits interact with the subtle currents beneath the surface. It creates that… subaqueous illusion. As for what it is," he gestured expansively around the glowing cavern, "it is a sanctuary of sorts. Think of it as… Ascaria's best-kept secret, now unveiled to you.” He said while his gaze unwavering. Maya, Finn and I were basically, utterly mesmerized.

A soft gasp escaped Maya's lips, her eyes wide as she took in the shimmering walls and the ethereal glow. "Levi, this is… incredible. I've never seen anything like it. It's like being inside a living jewel." Finn, equally awestruck, slowly turned in a circle, taking in the cavernous space. "Yeah, man," he breathed out, "this is… next level. The lighting is insane, and that humming sound… it's almost hypnotic." He looked at Levi, a newfound respect in his eyes.

Levi inclined his head, a hint of pride in his expression. "My dear friends, life is far too brief for the predictable. Allow yourselves to be captivated. The Lumina Nectar, I assure you, is quite… enlightening." He gestured again towards the shadowy bartender, who began preparing three more of the glowing concoctions.

As the Lumina Nectars were placed before us, their bioluminescent liquid swirling gently in carved stone goblets, Levi raised his own glass. "To unexpected discoveries," he murmured, his gaze sweeping over each of us. "May this evening be filled with intriguing conversation and perhaps, a touch of the delightfully bizarre." We echoed his toast, the glowing drinks casting an eerie light on our faces. The first sip was an explosion of unfamiliar flavors – sweet yet tart, with a subtle floral note and a hint of something almost electric that danced on the tongue.

“Levi, what did you mean by Ascaria’s best keep secret?”

Levi leaned back against the luminous stone, a thoughtful expression gracing his features. "Ah, my dear Raphael, secrets are often the most alluring currency, wouldn't you agree? The Lumina Caverns are not advertised in tourist brochures, nor are they frequented by the… more conventional elements of Ascarian society. This space exists on the periphery, known only to a select few who appreciate the beauty in the unconventional, the artistry in the subterranean." He swirled the remaining liquid in his goblet, the bioluminescence catching the light. "It was once a place of… ancient ritual, or so the whispers claim. Before the capital sprawled above, before the grand palaces were erected, this space held a different kind of significance. Now, it is a sanctuary for those who seek a different kind of energy, a different kind of beauty. A place where the echoes of the past resonate with the art of the present." His gaze held a certain intensity, as if he were sharing something truly privileged. "Consider yourselves among the initiated."

“You are talking as if… This where… Where Ascaria society began…” I tried decipher what he was actually saying.

Levi's lips curved into a subtle, knowing smile. "Before the gleaming towers and bustling marketplaces above, Ascaria had roots that ran deep, quite literally. Places like this cavern held a different kind of power, a connection to the very essence of the land. While the grand narratives of our history often focus on the more recent epochs, there are those who remember, who understand that the foundations were laid in places like this." He paused, letting the weight of his words settle in the glowing silence of the cavern. "So yes, in a way, you could say that the echoes of Ascaria's beginnings resonate within these walls."

Maya's eyes widened. "So, this place is… sacred?" she asked, her voice hushed with a newfound respect for the cavern's atmosphere. "Like… before the kings and queens?"

Finn, however, seemed more intrigued by the "magic" aspect. "Whoa, dude," he said, looking around the glowing cavern with a renewed sense of wonder. "You're saying this place is, like… where Ascaria started? That's… intense."

Look at the bomb this man just dropped into this conversation. He made everyone tense.

"Levi," I said, "you're making this sound like a museum tour. It's cool, definitely, but what is this place now?"

Levi chuckled, a more relaxed sound this time. "Ah, my apologies. In simpler terms? This is a lounge. A rather exclusive one, I'll grant you. It was founded by a collective of artists and eccentrics who appreciated the unique acoustics and the… shall we say… atmospheric lighting of these natural caverns. They transformed it into a space for those who seek something beyond the usual dimly lit bar." He gestured to the art installations subtly integrated into the cave walls and the stylishly dressed patrons lounging on the stone furniture. "Think of it as a place where art, conversation, and perhaps a touch of the surreal blend rather nicely. The 'best-kept secret' aspect simply refers to its discreet location and its tendency to attract a more… discerning clientele."

Maya visibly relaxed, a smile returning to her face. "Okay, a super cool, secret artist lounge in a cave. That I can get behind. It's definitely more interesting than the hotel bar." She took a more enthusiastic sip of her Lumina Nectar, her eyes still wide with wonder as she took in the surroundings.

Finn, too, seemed more at ease. "Yeah, 'sanctuary for eccentrics' sounds about right. I'm starting to feel right at home." He grinned, looking around at the other patrons, a few of whom sported truly unique and stylish outfits. "So, Levi, how did you even find this place?" His curiosity was piqued.

Levi's lips curled into a mysterious smile. "Let's just say, my dear Finn, that I have… connections. This establishment, in particular, came to my attention through a rather… eccentric art collector, a connoisseur of the unusual. He mentioned a subterranean space where the light danced and the music resonated with the very soul of the earth. Naturally, my curiosity was piqued." He paused, a glint in his eyes. "Sometimes, the most intriguing places are not found on any map, but rather through… whispers and shared secrets."

It was nice to see him talk about things but, for someone who is not used to Levi being Levi; it was still a little intense, in order to convey my message, I tapped on his calve with my shoe under the table.

Levi paused mid-sentence, his gaze flicking down to where my shoe had made contact with his leg beneath the table. A flicker of understanding, and perhaps a hint of amusement, crossed his features. He subtly shifted, ever so slightly turning his attention back to Maya and Finn, his tone becoming a touch less… philosophical.

"In essence," he continued, a more casual tone now coloring his voice, "it's a unique spot for those who appreciate a different kind of vibe. Good drinks, interesting people, and an atmosphere you won't find anywhere else in Ascaria. Now," he raised his glass again, a more relaxed smile on his face, "shall we dispense with the geological and sociological discourse and simply enjoy the ambiance and the company?"

The atmosphere in the Lumina Caverns seemed to lighten, the initial awe and slight bewilderment giving way to a more relaxed and convivial mood. The soft, resonant hum of the cavern and the gentle glow of the walls created a unique backdrop for conversation and laughter, the earlier intensity of Levi's explanation replaced by a more easygoing camaraderie. Maya and Levi found common ground discussing the interplay of light and form in the artwork, while Finn peppered Levi with questions about the more unusual aspects of Ascarian culture that one wouldn't find in any guidebook. Levi, in this element, was surprisingly relaxed and engaging, a different facet of his personality on display.

...

After some drinks, I realized something. “Levi, these nectars… Oh, god. I am getting tipsy.”

A low chuckle rumbled in Levi's chest, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "Ah, my dear Raphael, you possess a delicate constitution, it seems. Or perhaps," he swirled the remaining Lumina Nectar in his glass, its bioluminescence casting an intriguing glow on his face, "the 'nectar' lives up to its name in more ways than one. Its sweetness can be… deceiving. But fear not, my dear, I shall ensure your journey back to the surface is a smooth one." He turned to Maya and Finn, a knowing look in his eyes. "Perhaps we should pace ourselves, hmm? Unless you two are intent on witnessing Raphael's… less inhibited side?"

Maya's eyes widened with mischievous glee. "Ooh, the legendary Aerion tipsy? This is a sight I wouldn't miss!" She leaned forward, a conspiratorial grin on her face. "Don't worry, Raphael, we'll take good care of you. In fact," she nudged Finn with her elbow, "this calls for another round!"

Finn, equally intrigued, chuckled. "Yeah, man, consider it… character research! We need to see the full range of your acting abilities, right? Tipsy Aerion – that's a masterclass waiting to happen!" He signaled to the shadowy bartender for another round, his eyes twinkling with anticipation. "Don't worry, we'll make sure you don't do anything too embarrassing. Unless it's really funny."

“You guys know that I am a cauldron of repressed rage, right?” I asked while slurring.

Levi raised a perfectly sculpted eyebrow, a flicker of intrigue in his gaze. "An interesting revelation, my dear Raphael. Pray tell, what stokes this inner fire?"

Maya, however, seemed more amused than concerned. "This night just keeps getting better. What has this cruel world done to our beautiful, talented star?" She leaned closer, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

I have never been this drunk in my entire life before.

“Fuck Ascaria, what kind of a country legalizes gay marriage and can still have king? Also, it took me years to lose my Cyrusian accent. What the fuck is this language with it’s weird nasal sounds?” I said while slurring in both Ascarian and Cyrusian language.

Maya's eyes widened in genuine surprise, her earlier amusement replaced by a look of shock. "Wait... Raphael? You're not Ascarian? But... Aerion? The way you speak the language on set... it's flawless!" She looked utterly bewildered, turning to Finn with an expression that screamed, "Did you know this?!"

"Whoa, dude. Cyrusian? Seriously? You've been hiding out on us!" He leaned closer, his earlier tipsiness momentarily forgotten. "That's actually kind of awesome! But yeah, you totally sound Ascarian. What gives?"

“Yeah, it took me like literal years to lose the accent, but it comes out when I am tipsy.” I said while switching languages.

Maya was still processing the revelation. "But... Aerion is like, the epitome of Ascarian nobility! The way you carry yourself, your understanding of the nuances... it's all so convincing!" She shook her head, still slightly stunned. "This is blowing my mind."

Finn, ever the more laid-back one, grinned. "So, you've got a secret identity! That's pretty cool, man. You should bust out some Cyrusian phrases for us sometime.”

“Oh, aren’t you guys so liberated and Ascarian? Cyrusian are racist pieces of shit guys. If a Cyrusian saw me here, drinking, having fun with Ascarian they would curse me for making my ancestors weep.”

A hush fell over the small group. The earlier amusement vanished, replaced by a palpable tension. Levi's expression turned serious. Maya's eyes widened, her earlier shock now tinged with worry. Finn's grin faded, and he leaned forward, his brow furrowed.

"Whoa, Raphael," Finn said softly, his voice losing its lighthearted tone. "That sounds... intense. Is it really that bad?"

Maya reached out and gently touched my arm. "Are you... are you in some kind of danger?" Her voice was filled with genuine concern. "We had no idea..."

“Nah, that’s not what I said. There is no way a Cyrusian would ever visit or come to Ascaria. According those motherfuckers, this country is small, therefore beneath ‘them’. Also, I told you I am a cauldron of repressed rage.”

Levi's intense gaze softened slightly, a hint of understanding replacing the concern. "Ah. I see. So, more a matter of deeply ingrained prejudice than immediate physical danger. Though," he added, his eyes still holding a certain sharpness, "prejudice can be a dangerous beast in its own right. And your 'cauldron of repressed rage,' as you so eloquently put it, seems to be simmering quite fiercely."

Maya visibly relaxed, though a shadow of worry still lingered in her eyes. "Wow. That's... a lot to unpack. So, they wouldn't even come here? That's some serious superiority complex."

Finn, offered a small, somewhat awkward smile. "Well, their loss, right? More glowing cocktails for us in this awesome, non-beneath-them cave." He nudged my arm gently. "But seriously, man, that sounds rough. Years of hiding an accent? That's dedication."

“I was gonna be a model at first, but I wanted be an actor, you know for sill having a job after I reached thirty.” I said.

Levi raised an eyebrow, a wry smile touching his lips. "A pragmatic approach to artistic pursuits."

Maya chuckled. "Oh, I can just picture it. Raphael, the broodingly beautiful model. You probably broke a few hearts."

Finn grinned. "Yeah, you've definitely got that 'smoldering intensity' thing down. It translates well to the screen, for sure. So, what made you switch gears?"

“Guys, you think I am some type of an angel or sum. That’s really not it. It’s about me being an attention whore. You know the camera, the lights, the buzzing of a set, all eyes on you. If I was to be a model, that attention die down would they when I started get wrinkles.”

Maya, ever the theatrical soul, clapped her hands together. "Bravo! Finally, the truth serum of the Lumina Nectar reveals all!"

Finn grinned, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, man, no shame in that. We all like a bit of the spotlight, that's why we're in this crazy business. And you're damn good at it, so soak it up while you can. Wrinkles or no wrinkles, talent shines through."

“If we keep talking about me, I might even say more embarrassing stuff so you guys talk to each other, okay? Damn this fucking nectar, what is this alcohol percentage? I didn’t even get this drunk when I drank the shit out of Levi’s scotch reserve.”

Levi's eyebrow arched slightly. "My scotch reserve? A bold claim, Raphael, and one I shall have to investigate at a later, more sober juncture. However, you make a valid point. The evening should not be solely dedicated to the unraveling of your fascinating psyche, however entertaining it might be." He turned his attention to Maya and Finn, a wry smile playing on his lips. "So, my dears, now that our luminous star has offered us a brief, albeit drunk, glimpse behind the celestial facade, what fascinating revelations do you have to share with the group?"

Maya leaned back against the smooth cave wall, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Well," she began, her voice a touch theatrical as always, "now that Raphael has confessed his inner spotlight-seeker, I suppose it's my turn for a little honesty. You know how I'm always going on about the importance of costume in telling a story?" She paused for dramatic effect. "Sometimes... sometimes the real reason I get so invested is because, for a little while, I get to be someone else too. I get to create a world, not just for the actors, but for myself. It's a kind of… escape, I suppose."

Finn chuckled. "My 'revelation' is probably way less glamorous. You know how I'm always running around, stressed out, trying to make sure everyone's on schedule and the camera's in the right place?" He shrugged. "Honestly? Half the time I have no idea what I'm doing. I just try to look like I do. Fake it 'til you make it, right?" He grinned sheepishly. "The buzzing of the set Raphael mentioned? For me, it's mostly the buzzing of anxiety."

Levi listened intently to Maya and Finn, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Fascinating," he murmured. He then turned his gaze to me, a knowing glint in his eyes. "It seems the Lumina Nectar has encouraged a certain… unvarnished honesty amongst us." He paused, a subtle challenge in his tone. "However, I seem to be the only one who hasn't fully laid bare my soul under the influence of this… potent beverage. Perhaps it is my turn to contribute to this newfound atmosphere of transparency. What do you wish to know?"

Finn, the idiot asked this. "You said we're being more honest tonight. What's something genuinely surprising or unexpected about you that we wouldn't guess?"

Then with Levi’s answer everything shifted. "Finn," Levi repeated, his voice dropping to a low, almost conspiratorial murmur that cut through the ambient music. "Do you truly wish to know?"

Damn.

Finn swallowed nervously, his earlier bravado evaporating. He forced a chuckle, which sounded slightly strained. "Uh... you know what, man? On second thought, maybe some things are better left a mystery. I'm good. I'm good with the... you know…”

I jumped in, trying to diffuse the sudden tension. "Levi, lay off, alright? You're giving Finn the creeps. He was just trying to be friendly. Finn, don't worry, he's actually a decent guy, just has a flair for the dramatic." I shot Levi a pointed look, hoping he'd dial back the intensity.

Levi inclined his head slightly towards Finn, a hint of a genuine, though still somewhat formal, apology in his expression. "You are right, Raphael. My apologies, Finn. Sometimes my enthusiasm for the… profound overshadows the need for social calibration. I will endeavor to keep my revelations more… palatable in the future. Consider it a side effect of too much time spent in the company of ancient texts and enigmatic artifacts." He offered Finn a small, reassuring smile.

Maya, ever gracious, offered Levi a warm smile. "No worries, Levi. You just have that... air of mystery about you. It's part of your charm, even if it occasionally veers into 'potential cult leader' territory for a second there." She chuckled lightly, trying to ease the lingering tension.

Finn, still looking a tad sheepish, managed a weak grin. "Yeah, no biggie. Just my overactive imagination kicking in. Ancient texts and enigmatic artifacts... sounds way more interesting than whatever anxieties are buzzing around in my head. So you were saying something about the moss?”

It was bizarre night. The weird cavern lounge, Levi being Levi, Finn and Maya being themselves and me getting drunk beyond belief… Levi carried me to the bed. He offered me a small, white pill and a glass of water.

"Here. This will help ward off any lingering… memories of the Lumina Nectar in the morning."

"Mmmph," I mumbled, gratefully accepting the offered remedies. "Thankssss," I slurred again, my eyelids feeling incredibly heavy. The world was still gently swaying, a lingering echo of the potent drink. Levi's presence beside the bed was a comforting anchor. The events of the night replayed in fragmented images – glowing art, opinionated ravens, a crown offered and refused – a surreal dreamscape blurring with the edges of reality.

Levi adjusted the soft covers around me, his movements gentle and practiced. He sat on the edge of the bed for a moment, his gaze soft as he watched me. A gentle breeze drifted in from the open balcony, carrying the faint scent of the nearby sea. He reached out and gently brushed a stray lock of hair from my forehead. "Rest now, my dear. Tomorrow, we can dissect the evening's… peculiarities with clearer heads. Perhaps even try to decipher the artistic preferences of that raven." A small, tender smile touched his lips. He stood, moving quietly to dim the bedside lamp, casting the room in a soft, restful glow. "Sleep well, Raphael." He lingered for another moment, ensuring I was comfortable, before silently slipping out of the room, leaving me to drift into a much-needed, albeit slightly alcohol-induced, slumber.

The deep, dreamless sleep that followed was a welcome balm. When I finally began to stir, the harsh glare of full daylight was thankfully subdued by the heavy curtains Levi must have drawn. A dull throb pulsed gently behind my eyes, a subtle reminder of the previous night's enthusiastic revelry, but the promised hangover was mercifully mild, undoubtedly thanks to Levi's foresight. A faint aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted into the room, a siren call to my slowly awakening senses. I stretched languidly, the luxurious sheets soft against my skin. The events of the night before flickered back in fragmented images – the glowing cavern, the absurd conversation about crowns and opinionated birds. It all felt slightly surreal, like a vivid dream. Pulling myself out of bed, I found a plush robe laid out for me. As I wrapped it around myself and made my way towards the source of the enticing smell, the lingering haze of sleep began to dissipate, replaced by a growing curiosity about the day ahead and a faint smile at the memory of the bizarrely wonderful night.

"Good morning, Raphael," he said softly, his gaze lingering on me for a moment. "I prepared a mild breakfast – some fruit, yogurt, and strong coffee. Figured something gentle was in order after your… enthusiastic participation in Ascarian hospitality."

Before I could fully process the warmth of his words and the possessive thrill they ignited within me, a melodic chime cut through the peaceful morning air. Levi's sleek phone, resting on the polished tabletop, began to ring, its screen illuminating with an unfamiliar name.

He glanced at the display. He spoke for a few moments, his responses measured and concise, a world away from the playful banter we had been sharing.

As he ended the call and placed the phone back down, the shift in the atmosphere was palpable. The comfortable bubble of our private morning seemed to have been gently pricked.

"My dear Raphael," he said, his gaze softening slightly as he met my eyes, "as delightful and… engaging as our recent interlude has been, it appears the demands of our respective lives are once again asserting themselves. The wheels of politics," he offered a wry smile, "continue to turn, regardless of our personal inclinations. It seems," he paused, a hint of resignation in his voice, "it is time for us to return to… maneuvering."

“Is that so? Yeah… Okay. What do we do then?”

Levi's gaze held mine, a complex mix of affection and a familiar weariness. "While I would happily spend the remainder of our time here lost in… less politically charged pursuits, certain matters require my attention. Volkov's cooperation is… a significant development."

He leaned forward, his tone becoming more focused. "With these construction plans, we gain a considerable advantage. Many of the older noble houses have… incorporated certain… unconventional features into their estates over the centuries. Hidden passages, concealed rooms… spaces not officially documented."

He reached for my hand again, his touch firm. "This changes the landscape, Raphael. It allows us to apply pressure, to reveal discrepancies, to… encourage a greater level of transparency among the old guard. It limits their ability to operate in the shadows. Our efforts here have yielded a crucial victory."

“Yeah… Nobles have nowhere to hide now, right?”

Levi nodded, a hint of a predatory gleam in his eyes. "Precisely. The shadows are where corruption breeds. And with these plans, we hold a rather powerful torch." He moved towards me, his hand reaching out to cup my cheek. "And yes, my dear. Duty calls. The Royal Palace awaits." He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.

"Palace? Wait, why?" I asked, a knot of unease tightening in my stomach.

His smile didn't reach his eyes. "I need to remind the elder council precisely who they obey, Raphael. Their recent… recalcitrance will be met with the appropriate level of… persuasion." He moved away from me, his movements suddenly sharp and purposeful as he gathered his belongings.

Ah, yes. The Devil, standing by the very table where he had so thoughtfully prepared my hangover remedy, was now preparing to unleash a different kind of medicine entirely. Not the soothing balm of bland food and strong coffee, but a glacial fury, a blue flame of power that would burn and freeze the very foundations of the elder council's defiance. He wasn't just a Duke; he was a power broker, a manipulator of the highest order, and right now, the scales of Ascarian politics were about to tilt dramatically. He was… the Devil.

The transformation was swift and complete. He was retrieving documents from a secure briefcase, his brow furrowed in concentration as he scanned their contents.

"I will leave within the hour," Levi stated, his voice firm and decisive, brooking no argument. "I've already made arrangements. The information Volkov provided needs immediate analysis, and the council's recent actions require a… direct response." He glanced at me, his expression softening slightly, a hint of the earlier tenderness returning. "Are you ready, Raphael? This part of our lives, the… less glamorous but equally necessary part, awaits."

“I think so… Yeah.”

Levi squeezed my hand gently before releasing it. "I am glad," he said, his gaze softening further. "While I attend to the… delicate negotiations at the palace, please do indulge in your work. Perhaps the vibrant colors of the set will provide a welcome contrast to the rather drab hues of the council chambers." A hint of a smile touched his lips. "It is highly probable that I will be… indisposed at the palace for at least the next two days. The elder council can be… remarkably resistant to persuasion." He picked up his briefcase, his movements efficient and purposeful. "I shall see you when my… duties are concluded." He offered a final, lingering look before turning and heading towards the door.
