CHAPTER 12: THE SISTERS

Allen pushed aside the heavy tent flap and stepped out into the bright afternoon sun. The tense atmosphere from inside the tent seemed to cling to him for a moment before fading in the open air. He took a deep breath and began his walk, ready to explore the camp.

Well, that went better than I expected, he thought to himself.

I thought I wouldn’t be getting permission to stay here that easily. I mean, this is a live military outpost for fuck’s sake.

Does Luna really hold such a high rank that she can bring any random person inside and have them stay? She said she is a "commanding officer" but that in itself is too vague.

At least for the time being I won’t have to worry about how I’m going to sleep in a jungle with all the fucking bugs and reptiles. However...

He looked around as he walked, and seeing the knights and swords around him, he was once again reminded of the fact that the place he was in wasn’t ideal.

This can be dangerous if I don’t do things right. At best I would get executed, and at worst I would be tortured for eternity because they suspected me of being an undercover spy or something.

The Middle Ages were already famous for their torture methods. Here they have magic to aid them too, so I really don’t wanna think about that.

"Sigh... I did get myself caught up in something troublesome even when I said I wouldn’t," he mumbled to himself, letting out a long sigh.

But well, things aren’t all hopeless. In the first place, what I originally wanted was information about this world and how things work here.

In that case, I might have hit the jackpot, since there is no greater information source than military intel, regardless of which era or world it is in.

I’ll have to find a way to get that information though. There’s only so much I can get through casual talks, and there’s no way they’re letting a potentially suspicious guy like me have his hands on their intel sources.

Allen was lost in his thoughts trying to think up some way to get what he wanted without being burned alive inside a brazen bull.

Actually, perhaps he was a bit too lost in thoughts since unknowingly he stopped paying attention to the world around him and was completely zoned out.

"Oh—" he snapped back to reality when he realized he had bumped into someone.

"My apologies, I wasn’t looking where I was going," he said right away, not wanting this to turn into a meaningless conflict.

He then looked up to see who he had run into.

It was a woman, probably in her early or mid-twenties. She had beautiful long purple hair tied into an elegant ponytail, and a pair of deep red eyes.

Her skin was fairly bright which made her features stand out even more.

"Oh? Who are you, I wonder? Never seen you before," she said, looking at Allen.

"I’m just Ms. Revoltstar’s guest who’s temporarily staying here," he replied back in the most polite tone he could muster.

"I see, her guest huh. That girl’s shenanigans never stop now, do they?" she said, talking to herself for the most part with a slight sigh of disappointment.

"So where are you headed off to?" she asked.

"Nowhere in particular, to be honest. As I said, I am new to this place and have basically just arrived, so I was exploring it a bit," Allen explained.

"Hmmm," she took a moment to process her thoughts. "Then, how about I give you a tour? It would be better than wandering off alone, no?" she suggested, a big smile appearing on her face.

Yeah that’s a good fake smile alright, Allen thought internally. He knew a fake smile when he saw one.

"What? Are you perhaps not fond of the idea of hanging out with me? Hmm, do I really look that unapproachable?" she blurted out, not giving him a chance to think.

All while a slight mischievous smile remained faded in her fast-changing expressions.

"No no, that’s not the case at all. I would love to have you give me the tour. I was starting to feel a bit lonely myself, in fact," Allen replied, not having a choice.

Well of course she suspects me. Just because Luna has cleared any doubts about me from her mind doesn’t mean everyone thinks I’m a totally harmless and normal "guest".

Having to give me a tour is just a petty excuse. Her real motive is to keep a constant watch on me so that I don’t go around snooping into places I shouldn’t.

Does she really think that I cannot see through this bullshit of hers? Or is she trying to drill in the fact that even if I know, I cannot do anything about it.

There really is no shortage of troublesome people, no matter the world I am in!

Being troubled with such thoughts, yet not having anything to do against them, all Allen could do was just follow her obediently.

"We should get to know each other a bit then if we are gonna spend some time together," the woman said. "I’m Eunice Revoltstar. What about you?"

"I’m Allen, just Allen," he replied.

"My apologies, I didn’t realize you were her sister," he added, not giving her any chance to point it out and start an argument over it.

"It’s fine. We both have different mothers so we don’t really look alike. Anyone would have trouble guessing that just by looking," she answered as she began to walk with Allen following by her side.

"I see. Are you the elder sister or the younger one?" he asked.

"Which one do you think?" she asked, that same mischievous smile on her face.

Fuck. Both answers to this can get me in trouble depending on her mood.

"I would presume you’re the elder one. You carry yourself with a sense of maturity," Allen replied.

"Well, you would be correct," she acknowledged. "So you think my sister is still immature?"

Knew it!

"No, not exactly. It’s that she probably lacks experience due to not having lived as long as you," he said.

"That is indeed a logical thought, although I have to say you are a bit wrong," Eunice said. "Even though she is younger than me, she has fought more battles and led more armies. She is a lot stronger than I am."

"Oh, I must admit my failure to see her brilliance then," Allen replied, not daring to disagree with her.

"It is fine. It’s understandable for you to not realize how strong she is, considering you have been able to punch her in the face," she said.

Hearing that, Allen’s heart dropped.

Not the brazen bull, please.
