CHAPTER 19: EXP FARM

Far away from Allen’s vicinity, on the exact opposite end of the battlefield stood Rondalf.

He was within a tent that was quite big although still smaller than the one used as the command center.

There wasn’t much light coming in, with only a few beams of golden illuminating the area to the best of their abilities.

However, it wasn’t just the sunrays that were spreading light in the room. There was something else too, which emitted a dim red hue.

On the ground at the center of the tent was what seemed to be a magic circle. It had complex runes and geometrical patterns drawn all over with some sort of red liquid.

In the center of the circle was an insignia which looked like a four-petaled flower. Strangely enough, it was the same insignia that was engraved on the armors of all the knights on Rondalf’s side.

"Sir, are we sure we want to go this far?" Sebastian asked, standing two steps behind Rondalf.

"You don’t understand, Sebastian. We are faced with a very tough enemy. Even if we give it our all and focus all our forces onto their base, it still wouldn’t be enough because they have Luna Revoltstar on their side."

"We had no choice but to resort to this if we wanted to at least keep fighting till the reinforcements arrive," Rondalf said, overlooking the magic circle that continued to give off a dim red hue.

"I see. Truly a desperate situation we have found ourselves in," Sebastian replied in an emotionless voice.

Of course, he fully understood what Rondalf’s words meant. All this, all of this was nothing but a facade that was crafted carefully just to benefit him.

He understood the man’s intentions very well, he had been serving him for more than a decade now after all.

Morsignis Aeternum. A large-scale magic spell which can affect all those who are wearing the Inquisitor’s insignia, Sebastian thought to himself, looking at the maliciously glowing magic circle.

It makes your body unable to die unless you are hit with a critical blow which physically makes it impossible for you to be alive. Though if the blow isn’t fatal, then no matter how damaged the body gets it will keep on moving forward.

The worst part... the people affected lose control over their bodies. Their bodies operate only based on the last thought they had before the spell took over, which in these cases is mostly killing the enemy.

They continue their battle despite having broken bones, melted flesh, and missing limbs, all while continuously being able to feel the pain of it all.

I knew he was desperate but... I did not expect him to go through with this.

Sebastian was left in a conflicted state. On one side, he was absolutely loyal to his master and would even follow him to death without questioning it once.

Yet on the other side, he was but a human. His heart still hesitated when he saw such atrocities being committed in front of him.

After all, the worst part of all this was that the soldiers who went to the battlefield weren’t aware of this development.

They had never consented to being turned into a battle machine and robbed of their humanity.

"Sigh. I hope everything goes well," Sebastian said under his breath.

"Haha, you worry too much. I know very well how to survive in these deserted plains. And from my experience, I know that sometimes the biggest win is in losing," Rondalf replied, smiling.

[Warning: Threat detected!]

[Deployment of large-scale magic has been detected in your vicinity.]

[The Genesis system has determined that this threatens the user’s existence.]

[A quest will be engaged to deal with the situation. Acknowledging that this is an emergency situation, the user will be granted buffs during the time the quest is active.]

Messages flashed one after another before Allen’s eyes. He put his binoculars down and focused on the translucent screens in front of him.

[Quest Available!]

[OBJECTIVE: Assist the Perseverance knights to eliminate all the hostiles.]

[REWARD: +1000 EXP, +500 CP, +20 additional EXP per kill.]

[LIMITED TIME PERKS: +20% STAM, +10% SPEED, +1% REGEN.]

[DO YOU WANT TO ACCEPT THE QUEST: Y/N?]

Hmmm, well that was kinda fast,

Allen commented internally. He was right, things had indeed taken quite a sudden turn.

However, that didn’t mean that he wasn’t fond of what he saw in front of him. In fact, it was the exact opposite.

This is so fucking impressive! he exclaimed. I’m getting an additional 20 exp over every guy I kill ON TOP OF the 1000 exp I get as a quest reward?

And not to mention the buffs!

A grin appeared on his face, as if a child had just gotten his hands on his favorite toy.

This is the perfect opportunity to level up and unlock access to more things in the system!

"Of course I accept the quest," he said happily.

[Quest Accepted.]

[Buffs are now active!]

He felt a surge of power rushing through his body. He moved around, jumped, and broke into a little dash, and all of it felt completely different.

It was as if he had just lost fifty kilograms of weight all of a sudden. His body felt light as a feather, and he was able to move in ways he didn’t think were possible.

When he was finally satisfied and had gotten a feel for these new capabilities, he turned to look toward the battlefield which still raged on as before.

However, this time he did not see the soldiers. He didn’t see the blood. Not the mages, not the knights, nothing.

All he saw there now was a big EXP farm, which was going to tremendously help him get to the level he wanted.

He put the pistol and binoculars back into the armory, as it was more inconvenient holding them like this.

Then he leaned forward a bit before breaking out in a dash straight toward the active battlefield.

Leaving behind nothing but gusts of dust and wind.
