CHAPTER 20: NOT ALL TALK

Luna dashed across the field filled with enemy troops without much difficulty. Her movements were swift and her sword hesitated for no one.

Whether it be the blades of her opponents or their arms.

She then came to a stop and looked behind herself. There was a trail of blood following her which consisted of the blood dripping from the bodies of the knights she’d just sliced.

Yet strangely enough, even after having their arms cut off from their bodies they still stood strong and moved toward her with their eyes filled with nothing but killing intent.

Luna frowned a little upon seeing this.

"So it wasn’t just a few brave men refusing to die," she mumbled to herself.

She held her sword straight with her right hand, her eyes locked on the flock of blood-soaked knights in front of her.

There were at least twenty of them. She had been doing this for a while now. And once they were attacked by her, they never stopped chasing her no matter how far she went.

Luna looked around herself to get an understanding of her surroundings and soon realized that this wasn’t the best place for a large-scale attack.

There were many soldiers engaged in battle around her which included the troops from her side as well. Yes, losses were inevitable in a war, but she couldn’t bear killing her own people with her hands.

Especially when there could be a way to avoid that outcome.

She raised her sword high up in the air and then released the grip on the hilt. The sword, however, did not fall to the ground.

It kept levitating in the air right where she left it without a single movement.

Luna’s eyes furrowed, her vision locked on the horde of knights in front of her.

The sword then moved at insane speeds. It flipped around and threw itself toward the knights, piercing their armor and drilling itself through their hearts and out from their backs within seconds.

Since their movements weren’t too complicated, all the knights had been huddled together. Therefore it didn’t take long before all of them stood motionless with a hole in their chests.

The sword then flowed back to Luna’s side, with blood dripping from its blade.

A moment later, all the knights began dropping to the ground, their bodies completely limp.

Even if their bodies had been controlled by a magic spell, all it did was keep them alive as long as possible by removing all the limitations on the target’s body. It didn’t stop them from dying.

Hence it couldn’t do anything when their hearts were burst open and all the organs and muscles including the brain lost blood supply.

It could only control their bodies as long as the bodies themselves were physically capable of moving.

Luna grabbed the hilt of the sword and flicked it around to jerk away the blood on its blade.

"Thank you, Lament," she said, looking at the sword.

Her attention then shifted to her surroundings. It wasn’t her who was being attacked by these strange knights who refused to die, it was everyone.

All of their troops were being attacked and it was creating more of a disturbance than what would normally be acceptable on a battlefield.

Some troops on her side were obviously quite horrified upon seeing that the bodies of their opponents keep moving even after getting their arms cut off or their legs chopped off.

Even with a dagger gushing into the deepness of their guts, or a fire that actively burned their bodies, they kept moving.

Yeah, this isn’t normal at all. Perhaps this was the weird feeling I was getting. Randolf is definitely behind this! I have to tell Eunice as soon as possible!

Luna thought to herself, before turning around and leaving toward Eunice’s direction.

Her worries weren’t false either. There was no way of communication through which Eunice could keep an eye on and receive information from every single corner of the battlefield.

Someone had to be there to regularly give her the updates.

And while there were people designated specifically for this job, Luna had decided that they lacked the capabilities of defending themselves against the threat which had emerged so suddenly.

She didn’t want to take any risk. Hence she had decided to deliver this information herself.

"Zac! Don’t panic! Stay in the formation!" Dean screamed at Zac, whose hands were now shaking, and his posture had been deformed.

In front of him was a knight with the insignia of a flower with four petals marked on his armor.

He had his right arm missing and an open red crater below the shoulder had a piece of bone hanging out through torn muscle.

There was a grotesque gash across his stomach which had dumped a glistening wet mound of his intestines protruding out from the cuts in his metal armor.

With each new breath, a dark red liquid spurted out from his mouth and dripped down to the ground, creating a pool of blood around his legs.

"H-How the fuck am I not supposed to panic with this fucking monstrosity in front of me? What the fuck even are these people! Why are they not dying!? It wasn’t like this the last time!" Zac screamed, taking a step back and holding his sword with both hands.

"Why the fuck would I know that?! You think I’m not scared?! But we can’t afford to lose our cool here!" Dean replied.

Dean and Zac along with two other knights were assembled in a triangular formation.

Normally there would have been the backup of mages behind them but all of them had ended up running off after seeing the half-dead knights.

Which left the four of them locked in a position with each of them having a half-dead knight in front of them.

"Where the hell is Avgron? The old man’s never there when you need him," Zac said loudly.

"I saw him in the back. He’s far. We can’t reach him in time," Dean replied.

Zac clicked his tongue, taking another step back as the half-dead knight before him was continuously closing in.

Just at that moment, something unexpected happened. The insignia on his armor shone a bright red, and the knight behaved as if he was once again filled with energy.

He instantly leaped forward toward Zac, swinging the sword it held in its left hand.

Zac was startled, taking another step back and raising his sword only for it to be deflected out of his hand.

The amount of force behind his opponent’s sword was terrifying.

Death flashed before Zac’s eyes as he saw the man before him swing his arm around, raising his sword for another strike.

He didn’t have enough time to run, nor anything to defend himself.

"Zac!" Dean screamed, only for him to get slashed across the shoulder by the knight in front of him since he let his guard down.

As he saw the sword come for his neck, Zac closed his eyes, realizing that there was not enough time to even dodge this attack. He was just way too close to him.

He heard two slightly loud noises before feeling blood on his face as the screams of Dean continued to fall on his ears.

A few seconds passed.

Zac didn’t die.

It was strange, so he decided to open his eyes.

There he saw the half-dead knight, fallen to the ground with his head blasted into a dozen pieces with a clear hole in his skull.

He realized the blood on his face wasn’t his.

He turned around toward Dean and saw that the knights who were attacking Dean and the others had fallen to the ground in a similar manner.

All of them including Zac had a rather confused expression on their faces.

"What just happened?" Zac asked.

"I... don’t know," Dean replied, clenching his left shoulder. It had started to bleed a little.

It was then when they heard a little familiar voice. Normally neither Zac nor Dean would have remembered it, but due to the strange clothing of the guy, he had left quite an impression.

"Yo! You all never told me you were fighting zombies and such," Allen said, the barrel of the pistol in his hands letting out a slight trail of smoke.
