CHAPTER 21: A PROPER SOLDIER

"Yo! You all never told me you were fighting zombies and such," Allen said.

He walked closer to Zac and the rest, with his kevlar vest fastened up on his chest and his right hand gripping on the pistol whose barrel let out a slight trail of smoke.

"Z-Zom...what?" Zac asked, a look of confusion appearing on his blood-soaked face.

"I mean these people. Is it normal for them to be this resistant to dying?" Allen asked, blowing the smoke from his pistol’s barrel.

"Like hell it is! We also don’t know what’s exactly going on but... this is definitely not normal," Zac replied. "And aside from all that, what the hell are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be in a shelter safe inside the outpost?"

"Well, there are various reasons for that. For starters though, let’s say that if I were to be sitting in a safe house right now you would be dead. That’s why I’m here," Allen replied, pointing out the miserable state Zac was in.

His sword was lying away from him, and his body was covered with blood. But more than any of that, his fighting spirit had been broken.

"That’s... true. I must thank you," he replied, bowing down to Allen.

"So they really weren’t overexaggerating your achievements," Dean said as he walked closer to the two. "These fuckers dropped dead so fast I couldn’t even see what hit them, plus from such a distance too. Those are some great spells you have."

"Oh you flatter me, still thank you for your kind words," Allen replied politely. "Now then, it doesn’t seem like we have much time to talk," he added.

Looking around, he saw multiple enemy knights had surrounded them. There were a lot more this time, most likely in the range of twenty to thirty.

"This is bad..." Zac mumbled, picking up his sword back from the ground.

"Is there any plan?" Allen asked.

"Originally it was to reduce the numbers of the enemy and keep advancing. And officially until any new order comes in, we’re still supposed to do the same," Dean explained.

"I see. So we just have to—"

Bang!

"—kill them all, right?" Allen asked, shooting mid-sentence at a knight who was about to dash toward Dean.

"Y-Yes," Dean replied, still astonished by the way Allen was able to kill them within seconds.

"Then that makes things easier," Allen said as his lips curled upwards into a smirk.

He held the pistol with both his hands and turned around to face the incoming wave of knights directly.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

[+20 EXP!]

[+20 EXP!]

[+20 EXP!]

[+20 EXP!]

[+20 EXP!]

His hands never stopped moving. One by one he kept targeting and shooting at all the knights that were in his vicinity.

The bullets traveling at near-mach speeds tore through the primitive metal armor, drilling themselves directly into the knights’ bodies effortlessly.

Due to the information about how to use a pistol along with the experience of using one being directly downloaded into his brain, Allen’s hands moved with pinpoint accuracy.

Ninety-nine percent of the shots he took were headshots. And there was a reason for that.

As I thought, they die instantly once the brain is destroyed, Allen thought to himself, continuing to fire.

They really are like zombies if you think about it. Although I have to admit this is a little troublesome. There are too many of them.

Thanks to the system, I don’t have to reload my weapons since it automatically refills them with new bullets as long as I have them in my armory.

Still, I will run out of bullets at this rate. Sigh, fighting an army of thousands with a single pistol is not really an ideal situation, I guess.

As he contemplated how to deal with the current affairs, he continued shooting the knights. The barrel of his pistol ran hot, continuously firing bullets after bullets.

After all, the pistol was being used for nonstop firing, which was a task it wasn’t made for.

"Phew, that’s all of them I guess," Allen said, letting out a sigh and wiping the sweat on his forehead with his left hand.

There a few steps away from him stood Zac and Dean, completely blown out of their minds by the scenes they had just witnessed.

Around them lay corpses after corpses of the enemy knights with their skulls blown off, with their brain matter spilling out on the ground.

[You have gained a total of 820 EXP!]

[Congratulations!]

[You have levelled up!]

[Tier 2 of Armory has been unlocked!]

Suddenly a surge of notifications flooded before Allen’s eyes, which ended up startling him a little as he had been a little too focused on his surroundings.

How many bullets do I have left? he asked internally, ignoring the bursts of new announcements for the moment.

[A total of 5.]

He read the system’s response but didn’t do anything after that.

He also paid no heed to the fact that he had leveled up, because at this point in time he had a few other things he wanted to do.

"I-Is this... for real?" Dean mumbled to himself, still not being able to process what had happened.

This man had just wiped out what was essentially an entire platoon worth of soldiers all by himself within minutes. It was a feat that was unheard of.

Only people like Luna were capable of causing destruction on such a level yet even they held back due to the consequences it would bring.

"I’ve cleared the area for you guys. Feel free to go and meet up with the rest of your fellow knights," Allen said, the gun in his hands disappearing back into the system’s armory.

"But before that," he said. "Would you mind telling me in which direction is the enemy’s base? And how far would it be?"

Dean somehow brought himself back to reality, after all, he couldn’t stay like this for long on the battlefield.

Plus, he was bleeding and needed to get treated, for which falling back was essential.

"Yeah, I can do that for you," Dean replied, looking Allen in the eye with a serious expression on his face.

He no longer considered him just a foreign guest who had ended up saving his commander’s life somehow.

In his eyes, Allen was now a proper soldier capable of causing great destruction, and for the moment he was on their side.

And he hoped to keep it that way.
