Chapter 796: Chapter 31: No Need for Assistance (Part 3)
“I’m singing in the rain~
Just singing in the rain~”
Kerky hummed an old song from the other side of the coast, holding a green umbrella, strolling through the rain in the East District.
On the street, two ragged dirty children played in the puddles, splashing dirty mud at each other. As Kerky passed by, the mischievous kids intentionally splashed water at her.
“What a glorious feeling~
I’m happy again~”
Kerky hummed the song to avoid them, stepping her right boot into a muddy puddle, splashing mud onto the dirty children, provoking a chorus of angry shouts. The children rubbed their eyes, unable to see, and by the time they climbed up, the green-haired woman’s silhouette had disappeared.
She entered the distant greens, into an empty theater troupe. On a rainy day, no one watched plays, and the theater was closed. Jane sat alone in front of the tent, plucking the petals of a violet with her fingers. She did not carry an umbrella, her clothes soaked by the rain, drops mixing with her makeup, resembling black tears, and dried blood.
“Aren’t you going inside?”
“I like rainy days.” Jane Della said leisurely, handling the petals, “The feeling of wet cold is comfortable, it can provoke cruel fantasies.”
“Oh, little knight… you’re becoming more like a proper villain, the leader must be pleased.”
Kerky closed her umbrella and walked into the warm tent. Many of the old members of the sect came today—the leader, Hidden Law Master, the projection of the madman of Zero Island, the projection of the ambitious conglomerate, and also Jane. She walked to Jane’s side, smiling: “We agreed I’d handle it, why come personally to steal my job?”
“It’s an important meeting, appearance is etiquette.” Jane patted her hand, “How’s the progress on Shadow Mist City analysis, Shiyu Genmi?”
The projection of the man from Zero Island sat at the other end of the tent, crossing his legs, with a mocking smile on his face.
“My feelings are complicated. Centuries-old people from the Country must have sweated blood to design this barrier, truly a masterpiece, leaving me speechless.”
“Are you sincerely asking for such words? Are you truly incompetent?” Jane teased.
The man in white lowered his head, lifting his hand to press his hat, his shoulders shrugged.
“Didn’t I tell you? I’m speechless. This is truly a masterpiece… measured by standards from a thousand years ago!
Were the people of the Country idiots? To keep such a low-grade, outdated design until now, still daring to call it a national barrier?! Seeing such ridiculous designs in the 21st century leaves me truly speechless!”
Shiyu Genmi’s projection lifted his head, laughing maniacally: “Shadow Mist City! Only a millennium! Such trash is nothing to challenge me, Shiyu Genmi? It’s completed of course!”
Situ Yi applauded, laughing: “Genmi’s talent, unmatched in the world~”
“Shut up, actor!” Shiyu Genmi sneered, “The problem lies in your plan. You wish to remain hidden while reaping benefits, do you dislike risking your life so much, or have you been tainted by the greed of this Country?
Reality isn’t theater, to win supreme power, show the resolve to gamble with your life! Switching to my plan isn’t too late, Hidden Law Master!”
“It’s fine, this time’s plan relies entirely on the impersonal drama, trust his script. If anything happens, I will correct it.”
Hidden Law Master answered blandly, then looked at the silent attendee: “Gaius, your preparation?”
“The first batch of dragon-transformed clones has been sent across the Country, mixed among the crowds heading to the capital for celebration, entering in batches.”
“Hah, a mediocre creation of the untalented.”
Gaius Otimis’s projection ignored someone’s mockery: “Additionally, I share similar concerns with Shiyu Genmi. Since a relatively safe plan is chosen, we might as well minimize the risks. Use Shadow Mist City to suppress key targets…”
“Don’t be deceived by Shiyu Genmi’s tone, great politician. Do you truly think the barrier is as incompetent as he claims?” Jane said disdainfully, “Confusing the barrier recognition use is quite simple, removing names already inscribed on the permitted list can only be done personally by entering the clock tower through physical means. After Alandia Helison’s last move in the armor, she’s taken precautions, I don’t recommend Hidden Law Master taking risks now. After all, once this is over, the barrier will be in our hands, why rush.”
Gaius nodded: “You’re the most familiar with the capital, I have no objections.”
“Let’s proceed then.” Hidden Law Master took out a piece of jade, handing it to Jane beside, “Hold the Unity Jade properly.”
Jane gingerly received the jade: “You trust me too much. If I lose your treasure, how should I cope?”
“Use people without doubting, doubt not when employing.” Hidden Law Master sat down on a chair.
No further agenda was needed, plans were already ingrained in memory, what’s happening now is less about the meeting and more confirming everyone’s actions before the big plan begins, its success or failure will influence…
What will it influence? Perhaps nothing too significant, it might just affect how many die later. She watched this group of people, each with ulterior motives, finding them very amusing. They all sought gains, while she simply wanted to see how beautifully this ancient city could burn.
Perhaps she was most similar to the impersonal, the leader wanted more to see his drama fulfill completely.
They all looked to the center of the tent, at the man diligently writing. Situ Yi placed down the quill, announcing in an exuberant voice: “All is ready, the new play is written!”
He walked with ethereal steps across the tent, using his large sleeve to brush past Jane and Kerky’s faces, changing their appearances. They both turned into the “characters” about to take the stage, just like Situ Yi himself.
“Adorn the costumes, put on heavy makeup. Remember the lines, do not neglect the audience…”
The man in white with a tall hat walked into the rain curtain, using his large sleeve to brush past Jane Della’s face. Another important actor finished dressing, the sect leader stared at the city in the rain, singing loudly before each actor:
“The auspicious day is near, it’s time for the extras to take the stage!”
