CHAPTER 834: CHAPTER 834: DESTRUCTION

"I just want to ask you all, what did I, Wei Lai, do in my past life to wrong you, that made you one my wife and the other my son, torturing me like this?" Wei Lai’s gaze alternated between his wife and son, trying to find an answer this way.

"Torture? After all my years of dedication to this family, you actually consider it torture?" Wei Mu clutched her chest, heartbroken, questioning her husband with her eyes.

"Since you dismiss my contributions and don’t acknowledge me, let’s get a divorce." Wei Mu said hesitantly.

"Don’t think using divorce as a threat will make me fear you. I’m not buying it. This marriage, leave it or not, is up to you." Wei Lai said impatiently, flinging his sleeve.

Initially, the woman only intended to say a few words to teach Wei Lai a lesson but found there was no turning back this time.

"Love it or not? After so many years of marriage, I never thought my end would be this tragic." Wei Mu said with a bitter smile.

"Is this tragic? The pain you feel now is just a tenth of mine. Out of consideration for our past relationship, I’m letting you off easy. Life is about knowing contentment, so you’d best disappear from my life now. Otherwise, who knows what a person driven mad might do." Wei Lai said, curling his lips.

"Crazy? You go mad too easily, don’t you? Since we’re all lunatics, let’s not despise each other and just die together. Anyway, our living only burdens this world heavily. So there’s no point in us continuing to live. No one in this world welcomes us to stay alive. Let’s die!" Wei Mu shouted crazily at Wei Lai, her eyes shining with a strange light.

"Since everyone’s living such a sad life, let me solve it for everybody. Let’s gather and destroy together." Wei Mu said somewhat neurotically.

As Wei Mu spoke, she walked towards the kitchen, appearing as deranged as someone who just got out of a mental institution.

Wei Lai, by now, had barely regained some of his senses. Although the blow to his career was fatal, he still wanted to live and fight on strongly. Only by living can one have infinite possibilities; once dead, there is truly nothing.

Realizing something was wrong with Wei Mu, Wei Lai turned to leave, but he was too late to wake up. Just as he tried to leave, Wei Mu stood behind the father and son, holding a kitchen knife in her hand.

"Where do you think you’re going? Didn’t we agree to die as a family? What? Do you two plan to escape?" Wei Mu’s voice came with some gentle warmth, as if nothing had changed over the past decades, she remained so gentle and graceful.

But while her past gentleness earned her praise and compliments from the father and son, now it only brought forth their horrified expressions.

If Wei Lai was only half awake before, now he was entirely clear-headed, for no one can remain confused when their life is at stake.

"Honey, don’t do this, I was wrong, I was merely angry and said nonsense just now. It’s all my fault, nothing to do with you. Marrying you has been the happiest thing in my life, I’ve never regretted it, really. Please put the knife down, let’s talk things over, okay?" Wei Lai stretched out his hands, hoping Wei Mu would clear her mind like him and not commit irreversible actions.

"I won’t believe you anymore. I believe you meant those hurtful words, you must’ve held them in for a long time. Now you’re saying this because you’re afraid I’ll hurt you. I’ve never seen so clearly, never understood where I stand in your heart. Never before have I so regretted why I was so determined to marry you. I thought I married love, but now I realize I’m just a joke."

Wei Mu shook her head, firmly refusing Wei Lai’s approach, even though tears streamed down her face, even though her world blurred with crying, the knife in her hand remained steady without a hint of trembling.

"Don’t come closer, back off. I told you not to get so close, if you do it suddenly, I’ll drop the knife, I’m serious, I’m not joking." Wei Mu shouted, looking at Wei Lai trying to approach, and a snot bubble emerged from her nose due to her agitation.

The originally tense atmosphere froze for a moment because of the snot bubble’s emergence.

Wei Mu was momentarily dumbfounded, unable to believe such a crude action could appear on her, but she only froze for just a second. After all, she was about to die, so let the snot bubble come if it does.

"Mom, please don’t do this, I’m scared. I’m still so young, I don’t want to die yet, can you put down the knife and talk to me? I know I was wrong, Dad admitted fault too, can’t you forgive us? In a normal family, who doesn’t bicker from time to time, there’s no need to shout or threaten." Wei Ji said, looking at the sharp kitchen knife in Wei Mu’s hand, his voice trembling with some calf cramp.

"No, you don’t understand. It’s indeed necessary." Wei Mu’s expression was mixed, neither smiling nor crying.

"But you don’t understand, you’ll never understand. It’s my fault I didn’t educate you well, leading you to turn out like this, over 20 years old but still so immature. Though I don’t want to admit it, my educational approach seems to have gone wrong, and this is the only way to make up for my mistakes." Wei Mu said in a flat tone.

"You are the only child I have; if I could, I’d want you to live happily. But what can you really do? If your father and I both died, remaining empty-handed, could you even survive? Plus, being alone is too hard. I don’t want you to suffer or be so burdened. Killing you is the last thing a mother can do for you."

When Wei Mu said this, tears still marked her face, and Wei Ji could feel her pain through her expression. But also because of this, Wei Ji found it terrifying, experiencing a chill that seemed to seep from his bones. Wei Ji had never quite understood this feeling, but now he did, though he wished he never had.

Wei Mu’s face bore an apologetic look, then, without warning, she brought down the knife in her hand, landing it squarely on Wei Ji’s shoulder.
