Chapter 16: I Can Leave, But Please Divorce Me
CHAPTER 16: CHAPTER 16: I CAN LEAVE, BUT PLEASE DIVORCE ME
Raina Lowell was in disbelief.
Adrian Grant brought another woman home?
And that woman could only be Isabelle Everett.
Raina’s heart was filled with bitterness as she changed her shoes and went upstairs.
With each step, her feet grew heavier, and it felt like something was crushing her chest, making it difficult to breathe.
Especially when she passed Adrian’s study, she heard Isabelle’s panting voice inside.
"No, Adrian, take it easy, it hurts."
The man coaxed softly, "Just bear with it for a moment."
Immediately, Isabelle’s voice grew louder.
Raina stood frozen at the door, unable to bear such humiliation.
Her husband, how could he bring another woman home before their divorce?
And do such shameful things at home.
Even though she knew Adrian didn’t love her, and she had no right to intervene.
But as his wife, she couldn’t stand such things happening right under her nose.
Feeling utterly furious, Raina suddenly burst through the study door.
Just as she was about to lash out, she realized they weren’t doing anything of the sort.
However, Adrian was holding Isabelle’s hand, rubbing it.
That action still stung her eyes.
Hearing the commotion, the two people on the sofa turned their heads.
Looking at the suddenly intruding young woman, Adrian didn’t feel embarrassed by his inappropriate act.
Instead, his handsome face remained calm, his voice icy, "Who let you in?"
Raina knew she had misunderstood.
But her husband, with another woman in the study, rubbing her hand, a man and a woman alone, still made her feel upset.
She didn’t feel like her intrusion was inappropriate and, with a stern face, said angrily:
"Adrian, make her leave."
Isabelle withdrew her hand, pretended to be aggrieved, and walked towards Raina.
"Raina, I think my hand is dislocated. Adrian was just helping me pull it, nothing more, don’t misunderstand."
She raised her hand to hold Raina’s.
Deliberately trying to make peace with Raina.
But Raina wasn’t foolish, she knew what this woman was thinking.
She instinctively stepped back two paces to evade, looking coldly at Isabelle.
"Don’t you know I’m married to Adrian? If you didn’t know, I’m telling you now, please stay away from my husband."
Raina knew Adrian loved this woman.
If Adrian had to choose, he would undoubtedly choose Isabelle.
The reason she said such things to Isabelle was she wanted Adrian to divorce her quickly.
Once divorced, she wouldn’t care what they did.
"Raina, do you have some misunderstanding about me?"
Isabelle looked self-reproachful.
"I know you and Adrian are married, but I am not what you think, I just..."
"Why explain so much to her."
Adrian stood up and, right in front of Raina, directly wrapped an arm around Isabelle’s waist.
Looking into Raina’s eyes, his gaze was cold and devoid of emotion.
"Raina Lowell, listen to me, sooner or later I will marry Isabelle, she will become the lady of this house, and you, after you settle your debts, can get out."
Such a woman who bore another man’s child, deceived him, why should he feel pity for her.
The humiliation he suffered, he would return a hundredfold.
Raina felt her heart shatter.
It was shattered by the man she loved deeply.
Especially as he, right in front of her, wrapped his arm around Isabelle, declaring he would marry Isabelle in the future.
She really couldn’t endure such humiliation, losing control and raising her voice:
"I can leave right now, but please get divorced. As long as you don’t divorce me, this place remains my home."
"And Isabelle Everett will forever remain a mistress."
"Raina."
Isabelle’s expression changed drastically, angry at what Raina said.
Yet she maintained her elegance, softly explaining:
"How can you say that about me? Do you think Adrian doesn’t want to divorce you? If it weren’t for Grandpa Grant’s pressure, he would have divorced you long ago."
"Really?"
Looking again at Adrian, Raina’s face turned red, and she said:
"I’ll personally speak to Grandpa, as if anyone cares to be your wife, you’re too old for me anyway."
Really unwilling to look at them any longer.
Raina turned and walked away, heading back to the old house to confess to the elders.
Watching her back, Isabelle was furious.
But seeing Adrian remain unresponsive, she schooled her face and encouraged him:
"Adrian, since she looks down on you so much, let her go talk to your grandpa about the divorce."
Adrian, in his thirty-four years, had never been so looked down upon.
Calling him old, was it?
Thinking about himself being a whole ten years older than that young woman.
Sometimes, should he be more tolerant and accommodating?
Realizing Raina would really go to the old house, afraid she’d upset his unwell grandfather.
Adrian quickly chased after her.
Isabelle hurriedly followed to pull him back, "Adrian, just let her go, it’s her problem, not yours."
Adrian removed her hand, his face serious.
"You don’t know, my grandfather’s health is poor recently, he can’t withstand any shock."
"You go back first, sooner or later I’ll divorce, and ride a grand carriage to the Everett Family to marry you."
He left Isabelle and chased downstairs.
Just as Raina was leaving the villa, about to step out of the courtyard, Adrian intercepted her, his tall figure blocking her path.
"Raina Lowell, do you want Grandpa to die faster?"
Raina’s eyes filled with angry tears, teetering on the brink of breaking down.
"You’re pushing me to this, you brought her here, is there really any need to continue this marriage?"
"Don’t you have an inkling of why I’m doing this?"
He referred to her bearing another man’s child, deceiving him.
Raina could no longer hold back the aching in her chest, tears brimming in her eyes.
"I know I was wrong first, but I didn’t act as badly as you, having an affair during our marriage."
"Anyway, with her in this house, there’s no place for me, you should make her leave now."
If Isabelle didn’t leave, she would.
She would immediately return to the old house to confess her truth.
No matter the consequences, she would bear them alone.
Adrian saw Isabelle following them out.
And looking at the small woman in front of him, head bowed, tears falling, unexpectedly, his heart felt a dull ache.
But in the end, he turned to face Isabelle, speaking in a deep voice:
"You go back first."
Isabelle knew she couldn’t make things difficult for Adrian now.
Otherwise, her long-maintained image of being gentle, understanding, and considerate would crumble.
Coldly looking at Raina, Isabelle said softly:
"Raina, don’t be angry. Until you divorce Adrian, if you don’t want to see me, I won’t appear again."
She then shot a grievance-laden look at Adrian and left Lowell Manor, covering her face in tears.
Adrian watched her retreating figure, guilt rising within him.
Then, turning back to the small woman before him, he coldly demanded, "Are you satisfied?"
