CHAPTER 22: CHAPTER 22: HELLO, STEPDAD, PLEASE TAKE CARE OF US

Listening to Uncle Caleb’s words, little Evelyn was overjoyed and immediately hugged his leg tightly.

"Thank you, Uncle Caleb. If I get to meet my stepfather, I’ll definitely repay your kindness in the future."

Caleb Landon inexplicably liked this child.

Fair-skinned and tender, probably only about two years old, yet articulate and extraordinarily smart.

He thought about how his boss, at 34, still didn’t have a child.

Marrying a wife and getting two kids might not be a bad deal.

He patted the child’s head, smiled, and turned to leave.

Raina Lowell gazed at her son with a look of lament, scolding:

"Evelyn, who taught you that?"

This three-year-old child should be innocent and unworldly.

Why was he always saying such nonsense?

Who knows what goes on in that little head of his.

Little Evelyn pouted, still angry, walked up to his mom with a frown, and said sulkily:

"Mom, I wanted to tell you too, why didn’t you tell us we have a stepdad?"

"I want to meet my stepdad. Don’t worry, mom, I’ll definitely make him like us."

Little Aurora also said softly:

"Mom, I want a dad too."

Raina Lowell felt a pang in her heart, unable to scold them anymore.

In fact, she sometimes secretly hoped that Adrian Grant wouldn’t care that she had these two children, and might even accept them.

But would Adrian Grant accept them?

Probably not.

Who is he? Born with a silver spoon, the heir, the CEO of the Grant Group, worth billions.

Proud, noble, above all, a shining presence wherever he goes.

How could such a radiant man be willing to be her children’s stepdad?

Raina lowered her head with a sorrowful smile, better not to have such fantasies.

There was no future between her and Adrian.

With her daughter still running a high fever, Raina dared not leave and stayed by her side.

Caleb returned to the club to pick up Adrian Grant, intentionally making the situation sound serious.

"The child is very sick with a high fever. When we went, they still hadn’t recovered, just a tiny thing, and seemed so pitiful."

Adrian Grant, sitting in the passenger seat and having had a drink, felt somewhat uncomfortable.

Hearing Caleb say this, he casually asked:

"Didn’t you have a doctor check on her?"

"I had a doctor go over, but this illness doesn’t just go away instantly. The little girl clung pitifully to her mom, not letting her leave, so tonight..."

The implication was that Raina would have to stay there tonight.

Adrian closed his eyes lightly, his handsome face brooding.

After a long silence, he suddenly spoke: "Go to the manor."

Caleb was somewhat surprised.

But he didn’t say much, immediately steering the car toward the manor.

He’d been thinking about what excuse to use to get the boss to the manor.

Unexpectedly, the boss wanted to go himself.

It was like he couldn’t do without her, wanting to see her all the time.

Caleb chuckled inwardly.

He hoped that woman’s son could truly change the boss’s mind!

Perhaps if the boss softened, he’d accept them.

By the time the two arrived at the manor, it was already evening.

When Adrian Grant walked into the house and didn’t see Raina Lowell, he coldly instructed Caleb:

"Tell that woman to make me something to eat."

Caleb got the hint and hurried upstairs to inform her.

Upon entering the room, he saw Raina feeding the sick child and politely addressed her:

"Madam."

Raina hadn’t expected Caleb to come back again.

Thinking he was there to take her back to Lowell Manor, she was about to make a request when:

Little Evelyn suddenly darted over, hugged Caleb’s leg, and looked up to ask:

"Uncle Caleb, did you bring my stepdad here?"

Caleb smiled at him, fondly ruffling his little head.

"Yes, he’s downstairs. Go and see for yourself!"

"But your stepdad is kind of aloof, so be careful, don’t make him angry."

"Hehe, don’t worry, I’ll make him like me."

With that, the little guy darted out of the room.

Raina Lowell didn’t even have time to call after him.

But she was still a bit incredulous that Adrian Grant would come, and asked Caleb:

"Is he really here?"

Caleb nodded, "He’s in the downstairs living room. Maybe he’s craving your cooking, he wants you to make him something to eat."

Raina was still feeding her daughter.

She thought that only by pleasing Adrian Grant could she always be with her children.

Especially at this crucial moment, she couldn’t afford to anger Adrian.

Raina handed the bowl to Ms. Ford.

"Ms. Ford, could you please take care of Aurora for a bit? I’ll go down and have a look."

Then she gently caressed her daughter’s flushed, soft little face, and softly said:

"Aurora, be good and rest here. Mommy will come back to stay with you soon, alright?"

Little Aurora’s big eyes were shining, clearly more spirited.

"Mommy, I also want to see my stepdad."

Raina hesitated, "Why don’t you finish eating, and then let Auntie take you downstairs, okay?"

"Okay."

Little Aurora nodded obediently, sweetly waving to Raina.

"See you soon, Mommy."

Raina smiled. As she left the room, her expression turned serious again.

She asked Caleb, "He didn’t lose his temper, did he?"

"No, the boss is pretty calm. Anyway, just do your best," Caleb reminded.

Meanwhile, downstairs.

Little Evelyn sneaked downstairs to the living room, cautiously peeking at the stepdad sitting on the sofa along the wall.

Seeing the man in a suit, seated there, he looked imposing.

He looked like someone formidable who could protect Mom.

Little Evelyn prepared to approach him when suddenly a voice called out from behind.

"Evelyn, go upstairs and stay with your sister."

Little Evelyn was startled, immediately straightened himself, and saw the stepdad looking over at the sound.

He felt a bit embarrassed and gave an awkward smile to his stepdad, "Hehe, hello, I’m Evelyn Lowell, two years old."

In fact, he was already three.

But Raina Lowell had told the kids they were two to prevent others from knowing she got pregnant soon after going abroad.

The two little ones were preemies; their bodies absorbed nutrients slowly and they were born small.

Saying they were two seemed believable enough.

Listening to this, Adrian Grant inexplicably felt a pang of acidity in his heart.

He didn’t show the child a friendly face but instead sat there coldly, a clear do-not-approach aura exuding from him.

Raina knew Adrian Grant would never like her children.

She quickly pulled Evelyn over and instructed him:

"Go upstairs and keep your sister company, okay?"

"No way."

Little Evelyn gazed at Adrian Grant sitting in front of the sofa, eyes bright, and maturely said:

"There’s a guest at home. We should treat them warmly. Mommy, you go make dinner; I’ll keep the guest company."

With that, he cheerfully walked over to Adrian Grant.

Standing before Adrian, like a little gentleman, he extended his hand to shake Adrian Grant’s.

"Hello, stepdad. Please take care of us in the future."
