CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28: ALCOHOL POISONING

Listening to the children, Adrian Grant still felt a sour pang in his heart.

But somehow, from who knows where, patience emerged, and he replied indifferently:

"Because of your existence, I’ve already suffered a loss."

Out of nowhere, he had become the stepfather of two kids.

Sometimes, he really wanted to strangle this little woman sitting on his lap.

Why keep such a woman around, just to get on his nerves?

Yet she has the elders of her family protecting her, and for the time being, he really couldn’t do anything to her.

The two little ones were very curious, and in a sweet voice, they asked:

"How could you suffer a loss? If you become our stepdad, you’ll instantly have two cute and smart little darlings."

"Little darlings who are eloquent and can make stepdad happy every day, and with a happy stepdad, you’ll live a long life. When my brother and I grow up, we’ll honor our stepdad."

Now it was Aurora’s turn to speak.

Smooth and soft, even the toughest man, upon hearing it, couldn’t help but have their heart melt completely.

Adrian Grant did not deny, he couldn’t utter a single harsh word.

For a moment, he even thought, how nice it would be if those two children were his own.

Realizing he was naive again.

Didn’t want to be fooled by the two little ones anymore.

Adrian Grant shifted the topic, "It’s late, you two should go to bed early."

"No, handsome uncle."

Aurora’s voice turned soft and spoiled.

"We can’t sleep without mommy coming back, Aurora is scared, handsome uncle, can you talk with Aurora a bit?"

Adrian Grant pretended to be stern, "I’m busy, children can’t stay up late, go to bed early."

"Then let mommy answer the phone, I want her to say goodnight to me."

Aurora knew she couldn’t disobey adults, otherwise they wouldn’t like her, so she had no choice but to compromise.

Adrian Grant looked at the little woman lying in his arms, who was completely out cold.

Feeling helpless, his voice through the phone was much gentler than before.

"Your mommy got drunk and can’t wake up now."

"Ah?"

Evelyn was startled, grabbed the phone immediately and said worriedly:

"My mommy can’t drink, she gets poisoned and could die."

"Handsome uncle, please take mommy to the hospital quickly, okay?"

Adrian Grant thought the kids were making a fuss.

Hadn’t Raina Lowell drunk once before and nothing happened?

He patiently told the children, "Don’t worry, your mommy will be fine with me here."

"Then you have to take good care of mommy, and when she wakes up, have her call Auntie Lee, okay?"

Evelyn spoke with a crying tone.

Really scared that something would happen to mommy.

However, he believed stepdad would surely take good care of mommy.

"Alright, you guys go to sleep now, I need to get busy."

Adrian Grant hung up the phone anyway.

Hearing the child say Raina Lowell could get alcohol poisoning, he was a bit skeptical, looked at the little woman slumped in his arms, and called a couple of times.

"Raina Lowell, we’re home, wake up."

Raina Lowell didn’t react at all.

Softly lying in Adrian Grant’s embrace, not moving an inch.

Because it was nighttime, and the car lights were off, Adrian Grant didn’t notice anything unusual about her.

Just thought she must have just drunk too much and fallen asleep.

But when they arrived at Lowell Manor, and he carried her into the house.

The light hit Raina Lowell’s pale face, her lips slightly purple, not looking like someone simply drunk.

Adrian Grant suddenly panicked a bit, hurriedly called out to Caleb Landon, who was about to leave outside the door:

"Quick, get Dr. Elias over here."

Caleb Landon didn’t hesitate, quickly pulled out his phone and made a call.

Realizing Raina Lowell’s body was a bit cold already.

Adrian Grant held her and rushed upstairs, lay her on the bed.

He sat by the bed, reached out to check Raina Lowell’s breathing.

Very faint.

Adrian Grant realized these could truly be signs of alcohol poisoning, couldn’t help but urgently call Dr. Elias.

Madam Cole came into the room, concernedly asked:

"Sir, do you need me to do anything?"

No matter how calm Adrian Grant usually was, he was truly a bit anxious at the moment.

His voice shook slightly, "Go prepare some soup medicine to sober her up."

Madam Cole immediately went to do it.

When Dr. Elias arrived, he initially checked Raina Lowell, concluded it was alcohol poisoning.

Looking at the obviously worried Adrian Grant standing to the side, Elias Sheridan asked him:

"Why let her drink so much, she’s already got alcohol poisoning, I need to give her an IV immediately."

Luckily he brought medicine when he came over.

Adrian Grant felt more guilt in his heart.

Yet unwilling to place the blame on himself.

To blame, it would only be that she loved money so much, for those few thousand dollars, she kept drinking.

No one forced her.

But his heart was still worried, Adrian Grant asked:

"Is she going to be okay?"

Elias Sheridan looked serious, administering the IV while saying:

"Hard to say, I’ll first take blood tests, you better stay by her side in case her gastric mucosa is damaged, leading to digestive tract bleeding when she vomits."

Elias Sheridan was the Grant Family’s family doctor.

And also Adrian Grant’s friend.

He understood the relationship between Adrian Grant and Raina Lowell.

After finishing up, Elias Sheridan drew Raina Lowell’s blood and turned to leave.

Leaving Adrian Grant with the woman on the bed not sleeping, but in an alcohol poisoning coma.

Saying he felt no guilt would be false.

Earlier Raina Lowell clearly told him she couldn’t drink.

He refused to listen.

Not only had her drink with a bunch of old men, but tonight again with some young fellas.

This back-to-back intense drinking, no normal person could endure, let alone she was so young.

Adrian Grant sat beside, his deep eyes gazing melancholically at Raina Lowell.

He pondered, if she hadn’t had children with someone else.

Their marriage definitely could have continued.

Between them, there would also be a child belonging to them.

But now, she had someone else’s child, he couldn’t possibly have a future with her.

When grandpa leaves, he’d divorce her and let her go.

Couldn’t dwell on this, the more Adrian Grant thought about it, the more his heart felt blocked.

He stood up wanting to leave.

Suddenly, there was movement from Raina Lowell on the bed.

She abruptly supported herself up, leaned over the bed and started vomiting.

But what she expelled wasn’t foul stuff, it was blood.

Adrian Grant watched, scalp tingling.

No matter how much he resented her, he panicked and rushed over to support her, "Raina."

He lost composure and shouted toward the door:

"Elias Sheridan, Elias Sheridan..."

Originally downstairs preparing medicine, Dr. Elias heard the shouts and immediately ran up.

Seeing Raina Lowell vomiting blood, he pushed Adrian Grant aside and immediately administered medication.

Fortunately, his medical skills were proficient, coupled with the IV drip, the alcohol in her body was quickly diluted by the medicine.

Slowly Raina Lowell got a lot better.

Though no longer vomiting blood, her vital signs remained poor.

Elias Sheridan was somewhat furious, looked at Adrian Grant, "How can you be a husband like this, letting your wife drink so much."

"Her digestive tract is already damaged, you better pray her liver function isn’t affected, stay with her!"
