CHAPTER 35: CHAPTER 35: SUSPECTING HE IS THE CHILDREN’S FATHER

Raina Lowell felt somewhat guilty and avoided meeting the other person’s gaze.

She could only lie for now, "Um, they’ve been with me since they were born. In their hearts, I’m their mom."

Elias Sheridan asked again, "So you took them with you when you were studying abroad?"

Raina Lowell nodded.

Elias Sheridan didn’t think much of it, only feeling that raising her friend’s kids while studying seemed quite tough.

He said, "The kids are great, but the little girl said she missed you and wanted you to go see her."

Raina Lowell immediately followed up:

"I miss them too. Look, if I’m not having any serious issues, why don’t you take me to see them?"

Though she didn’t know if it would work.

As long as she could see her kids, she was willing to try.

Adrian Grant wouldn’t be back for three days; she couldn’t possibly wait for him for three days.

"Alright, I can go and have a chat with Evelyn anyway."

Catching sight of Madam Cole bringing in the medicine, Elias Sheridan signaled her, "First, take your medicine, and we’ll go together."

Raina Lowell, eager to see her children, quickly took the medicine Madam Cole brought and drank it all in one go.

Seeing her urgency, Elias Sheridan felt a bit helpless.

"Take it slowly, don’t choke. Even if it’s a bit late to go now, you can still stay over there for the night; we’re not in a rush."

Raina Lowell nodded.

After handing the bowl to Madam Cole, she urged Elias Sheridan to go.

Elias Sheridan didn’t think much, heading out and gentlemanly opening the car door.

But Raina Lowell got into the back seat, purposefully using Adrian Grant as an excuse.

"I’d better sit in the back; you know Adrian Grant, he tends to overthink."

Sitting in the back, the estate’s guard couldn’t see her, allowing her to enter the estate smoothly.

Otherwise, if the guard saw her, they definitely wouldn’t allow her in.

If things got chaotic, Elias Sheridan would know everything.

Elias Sheridan agreed.

There’s a distinction between men and women, especially when she’s married, sitting in the back was just to avoid misunderstandings from others.

He didn’t mind and drove to the estate.

Half an hour later, the car easily entered the estate, the guard didn’t even look.

Raina Lowell sighed in relief, got out of the car, and headed directly inside the house.

By the time she arrived, the two little ones were already asleep.

Ms. Ford was also about to head to her room when she saw Raina Lowell coming, and she greeted her and reported:

"Miss Lowell is back. Aurora and Evelyn just fell asleep. You wouldn’t believe how unhappy Aurora has been without you these past days. I coaxed her for a long time before she finally fell asleep."

"Thank you so much."

Raina Lowell still pushed the door open to the children’s room.

Only to find Aurora asleep, whereas Evelyn was not sleeping at all.

Upon hearing the noise, he sat up immediately.

Seeing through the dim nightlight that it was his mom, little Evelyn happily whispered:

"Mom, you’re here! Are you feeling better?"

He crawled to the foot of the bed, wanting a hug from his mom.

Raina Lowell raised her hand to hug him, seeing her daughter still quiet, she probably was asleep.

She first went over to kiss her daughter, tucked her in, ensuring she no longer had a fever before carrying her son out of the room.

Little Evelyn, in her arms, couldn’t help but kiss her, then touching his mom’s slightly thinner face, he said worriedly:

"Mom, are you better? Is your body feeling uncomfortable?"

"Much better, nothing’s wrong with mom."

Raina Lowell kissed her son too, holding him close, then thought about Elias Sheridan downstairs and asked her son:

"Do you really want to learn things from Uncle Sheridan?"

Little Evelyn nodded vigorously, his big eyes sparkling.

"Yes, I think Uncle Sheridan is nice. He brought me here yesterday and even bought me a phone, a tablet, and lots of pretty clothes and dolls for sister."

It’s a pity mom doesn’t want them finding a step-dad, otherwise he really liked Uncle Sheridan.

Raina Lowell thought it shouldn’t be a problem for the kid to learn things from Elias Sheridan.

This way, if Adrian Grant lost his temper again and didn’t allow her to see the kids, she could still enter the estate through Elias Sheridan.

She carried her son downstairs.

Seeing Elias Sheridan, little Evelyn enthusiastically waved at him, "Uncle Sheridan, you came too! I really missed you."

Elias Sheridan came over and picked him up from Raina Lowell’s arms, gave him a kiss, indulging in pinching his chubby cheeks.

"I missed you too. From the first time I saw you, I calculated our previous life’s connection was definitely not shallow."

Little Evelyn giggled.

Thinking that Uncle Sheridan was a doctor, he worriedly asked once again about mom’s condition.

After hearing Uncle Sheridan say everything was fine, he relaxed.

The three of them sat in the living room chatting for a while.

Seeing it was getting late, Raina Lowell prepared to take her son back to the room to rest.

But Elias Sheridan said:

"I’m not planning to go back tonight; there’s an extra guest room here. I’ll stay, let Evelyn stay with me, you can stay with Aurora."

Raina Lowell was a bit hesitant.

But the man had already taken her son, treating him as his own, kissing him and heading upstairs.

Looking at their backs, Raina Lowell felt a bit puzzled.

This man just got to know her son, wasn’t he a bit too enthusiastic?

Besides, as a doctor, he should be able to tell the true age of the child.

But he asked nothing, making Raina Lowell unexplainably uneasy.

She went back to the room to be with her daughter.

During the three days Adrian Grant was away, Raina Lowell stayed in the estate with the kids.

Elias Sheridan, as if having nothing to do, also chose to stay.

All day either teaching little Evelyn medical knowledge alone or playing with him.

The level of care and responsibility, for those unaware, seemed like he was the father.

Thinking of the children’s father, Raina Lowell was shocked.

She remembered four years ago, at Adrian Grant’s birthday party, Elias Sheridan was also there.

After drinking the wine someone handed her, she became disoriented, wanting to go back to her room to rest.

When she left, Elias Sheridan saw she was unwell and personally took her to the hotel room.

In the middle of the night, she felt someone violating her.

But her body was too weak, lacking the strength to resist.

Afterward, she didn’t even see the person’s face clearly, dragging her aching body in a panic to escape the room.

So, was it Elias Sheridan that night?

Because only Elias Sheridan knew where she was and could enter her room.

Raina Lowell sat stiffly on the sofa, almost afraid to think.

At that moment, Elias Sheridan led Aurora and Evelyn from the back garden, sitting down beside her, holding and snuggling her son with undying affection.

That manner, how could it not resemble a father’s love for his child?

Raina Lowell’s body was drenched in cold sweat from fear, her heart in her throat.

She couldn’t accept that the rapist from four years ago was the man in front of her.

Nor did she want him interacting with her children any further.

Raina Lowell quickly spoke up, "Dr. Shepherd, why don’t you take me to work first?"

She couldn’t lose her temper in front of the children.

Elias Shepherd surely knew she birthed the children.

As a doctor, how could he not know the children were actually three years old?

The reason he pretended to know nothing must be to win the children’s affection, and then to take away their custody.

The more Raina Lowell thought, the more terrifying it became.

Elias Sheridan agreed, giving the children some more kisses before letting go.

Then he went outside to start the car.

Raina Lowell grabbed the kids, her voice trembling slightly.

"Aurora, Evelyn, be good here and listen to Ms. Ford. I’ll be back to be with you after work."

The two little ones were very obedient; mom had been with them for three days without going to work, they should feel satisfied.

The siblings personally saw mom and Uncle Sheridan off into the car.

As Elias Sheridan drove away, he clearly noticed Raina Lowell wasn’t herself.

He asked, "Are you feeling unwell? Your face is so pale."

Raina Lowell avoided looking at him, her face cold:

"From now on, please stay away from Aurora and Evelyn."
