CHAPTER 109: ONE HELL OF A RIDE (18+)

Fuhan froze as Yan Mei’s lips brushed against his. For a moment, he didn’t move, caught between surprise and the warmth of her touch. Her lips trembled slightly carrying the faint taste of wine.

Slowly, his hand rose, hesitating before resting gently on her back. The kiss was brief but filled with everything left unsaid between them.

When she finally pulled back, her face was close to his, her breath soft and uneven. "That’s... what I wanted," she murmured, her voice faint.

Lin Xu’s palms rested against his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath the damp layers of his robe. Her eyes widened as she looked up at him, his face so close she could see the small droplets of rain still clinging to his lashes.

Coming back to reality, Lin Xu quickly pushed him away and stood still, adjusting her hanfu slightly.

Trying her best to slow down her heartbeat, Lin xu muttered, "T-thank you."

Before she could even finish her sentence, the carriage hit another bump harder this time.

Without hesitation, Mo Ying caught her once more, his arms wrapping tightly around her waist before she could fall. This time, though, he didn’t move right away. His face was close, too close and the teasing grin that played on his lips made her even more flustered.

"I told you," he murmured, his voice low and amused, "you always fall when you’re around me."

Lin Xu’s eyes widened, her cheeks turning pink. "L-let go!" she said quickly, trying to push against his chest, but his arm didn’t budge right away.

Mo Ying chuckled softly. "You say that, but your hands are holding onto me tighter."

She glanced down and sure enough, her fingers were gripping his robe tightly. Embarrassed, she immediately let go and turned away, her face red. "It’s only because you almost made me fall twice!"

"Mm." He tilted his head, pretending to think. "Or maybe fate just wants you close to me."

Lin Xu glared at him, fuming. "Fate should mind its own business!"

Her reaction only made his smile widen. "Still fiery as ever," he said softly, almost to himself.

Lin Xu crossed her arms and looked away, trying to ignore the way her heart still raced. "Just... stop talking," she muttered.

Mo Ying smiled, still holding on to her tightly.

"You’re still not going to let me go?" She asked, annoyed.
