Sweet slice-of-life love story: Wife, Let's love again
Chapter 58: Taste the Eh Hei Eh Hei Luo
CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: TASTE THE EH HEI EH HEI LUO
Night, roadside.
Qin Guanglin and Xiao Yu squat helplessly next to Sun Wen, looking at each other not knowing what to do. They’re also unclear about Sun Wen’s current rental address, and even if they wanted to stuff him into a taxi, they wouldn’t know where to send him.
After stepping out and getting hit by a breeze, the alcohol went straight to their heads. Xiao Yu, a bit wobbly himself and clutching a cigarette, shook Sun Wen’s arm, "Wake up, wake up, let’s go home to sleep."
Sun Wen grew more confused, sitting on the ground and shaking his head, "I’m not going back, I want to... right, let’s find an internet café and pull an all-nighter!"
"Pull an all-nighter my ass, we have work tomorrow." Xiao Yu cursed, regretting letting him drink so much.
It was self-inflicted trouble. They couldn’t just leave him blowing in the wind all night; the poor guy could end up stupider than before.
Qin Guanglin stood up and looked around, pointing at a nearby hotel, "Do you have your ID? Let’s just take him there."
"Why would I carry my ID to work? Hold on, let me check if this guy has it."
Xiao Yu searched Sun Wen’s body and pulled out a wallet. After rifling through it, he stuffed it back, "This kid doesn’t have it either, do you?"
"I don’t have the habit of carrying my ID either." Qin Guanglin spread his hands, feeling a bit troubled.
In the past, when someone got too drunk, they’d just carry them back to the dorms. Now, without dorms, they didn’t know how to handle the situation.
Thankfully they came along. Otherwise, these two boozers, completely sloshed, would end up lying on the side of the road all night and be done for.
Sun Wen kept muttering about finding an internet café to spend the night, but Xiao Yu flicked away his cigarette butt and retorted, "You can’t find a damn internet café without an ID!"
"Call his girlfriend and ask for the address." Qin Guanglin came up with an idea.
"Brilliant!" Xiao Yu perked up. He fished out Sun Wen’s phone, held it in front of him attempting to cajole, "What’s the password? Don’t worry, I won’t make a call, just unlock it for me, will you?"
Sun Wen unlocked his phone in a daze, still questioning Xiao Yu about his intentions. Xiao Yu, while soothing him, handed the phone to Qin Guanglin, signaling him to quickly inquire.
"It should be this one called Yueyue."
Qin Guanglin flipped through Sun Wen’s phone contacts, found the most frequently contacted female name, and dialed it.
Doo-doo. Doo-doo. Hello, the number you have dialed...
"That’s it, she hung up; the girlfriend isn’t answering." Qin Guanglin gestured to Xiao Yu, now truly out of options.
"Try a few more times." Xiao Yu frowned, "Don’t get the wrong person."
"It’s probably right, he’s only got one person with a nickname in his phone." Qin Guanglin tried calling again.
Doo-doo. Doo-doo.
This time, she answered. An irritated female voice demanded right off the bat, "What do you want?!"
"Hello, are you Sun Wen’s girlfriend?" Qin Guanglin asked courteously.
No wonder Sun Wen didn’t want to go back; she was still burning mad, like she was ready for a fight.
The girl marked as Yueyue hesitated before counter-asking, "I am, who are you?!"
"I’m a friend of Sun Wen. He’s... had too much to drink outside and we don’t know where he lives." Looking at Sun Wen, Qin Guanglin continued, "We’re planning on sending him back, could you..."
Before Qin Guanglin could finish, the girl cut him off, "Let him die out there!"
Beep beep beep beep...
"She hung up again. ’Let him die out there.’" Qin Guanglin shrugged helplessly and handed the phone back to Xiao Yu.
"This is... dammit..."
Xiao Yu was somewhat speechless, "What kind of girlfriend is this? If it were me, I wouldn’t go back either."
Arguing is one thing, but leaving someone to die outside is another, especially when they are still drunk.
"What should we do?" Qin Guanglin glanced at his watch. It was already past ten at night. "If worse comes to worst, I’ll just go back for my ID and book him a room."
"Just take me to my place." Xiao Yu stood up and swayed a bit before steadying himself. "You go hail a cab, and I’ll watch him here."
There was nobody home at his place, as his parents were out. With the house empty, it wasn’t just a matter of accommodating someone for one night; even if Sun Wen stayed for half a month, there would be no issue.
"That works."
Qin Guanglin flagged down a taxi by the roadside and, together with Xiao Yu, they propped Sun Wen into the back seat before getting in themselves and announcing Xiao Yu’s address.
"Are you coming too?" Xiao Yu asked.
"No shit, you think you can get him into your house by yourself?"
Xiao Yu’s home was nestled within an alley, not accessible by car. They’d have to walk a bit to get there, and given Sun Wen’s current state, it was nearly impossible to support him alone—he was simply too big.
Luckily, Sun Wen was just dizzy from the booze, showing no signs of throwing up. Mumbling in the car, neither of them could understand what he was muttering, nor did they care to listen. Upon arrival, they once again helped him into Xiao Yu’s house.
"I don’t even know why he has to be so huge."
Together they dumped Sun Wen onto Xiao Yu’s bed. Xiao Yu, rubbing his arms sore from the effort, complained about how heavy he was.
"You didn’t talk like that when we used to fight together... Jesus, you scared the crap out of me."
Qin Guanglin had planned to sit and rest on the couch, but suddenly, a dark shadow leaped up from it, giving him a scare. It took him a moment to realize it was just a cat. "When did you start keeping a cat?"
"I’ve had it for a few months now." Xiao Yu picked up the cat and stroked its fur. "Didn’t you see it last time you were here?"
"I didn’t notice." Qin Guanglin shook his head, and having been startled by the cat, no longer felt like sitting. "You stay, I’m headed back."
"Don’t go. Hang out for a bit longer, have a drink of water before you leave. I’m pretty bored with nobody home."
Xiao Yu set the cat down and turned to look for a cup. Although he felt woozy from the drink, he was wide awake with no hint of sleepiness—he was the type that gets more alert the more he drank, and it was hard for him to fall asleep when he had too much.
"It’s too late to hang out; you should get some sleep too." Qin Guanglin stepped out of the room, not planning on staying any longer.
"Be careful on the way home," Xiao Yu called out from behind.
"Alright, I’m leaving."
Qin Guanglin waved his hand and left Xiao Yu’s place. He hailed a taxi and gave the driver his home address, then leaned back in the seat and closed his eyes to rest.
It was only after helping Sun Wen make that phone call that he realized how severe their fight had been—one passed out drunk on the roadside while the other, uncaring, could utter something as harsh as dying outside. You hardly see anything like that on TV.
Fights... Why would two people in love argue?
But what couple doesn’t have their disagreements?
These two conflicting questions swirled in Qin Guanglin’s mind, and he suddenly grew curious about what kind of disagreements he and He Fang would have.
Work? Money? Time?
It seemed there were no points of contention... Surely they wouldn’t argue, right?
Lost in his half-baked musings, Qin Guanglin failed to come up with an answer. He casually pulled out his cell phone, intending to dedicate some time to the matter of meeting his future father-in-law, but he noticed three unread messages from He Fang on the screen. They were sent after ten o’clock, and now it was nearly midnight by the time he saw them.
"Do you have time this Saturday? If you do, let’s go out this week. If not, we’ll wait until next week."
"What are you doing?"
"Please respond when you see this."
Gaping about ten minutes apart, each message awaited his reply. Qin Guanglin thumbed the keys on his cell phone and texted her back.
"I’m free this weekend. Let’s do this week."
