CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: WHOSE IMPROVISATION IS STRONGER +2
Both of them were lying in their own beds, with He Fang playing Fight the Landlord, while Qin Guanglin lay on his side, pretending to play Fight the Landlord, occasionally revealing a silly smile.
It turned out she liked to play on her phone with a pillow propped up behind her, reclining on the bed.
That serious little face was adorable no matter how he looked at it, and even when she frowned at bad cards, it was just as cute.
"Have you had your fill of looking?" He Fang lifted her eyelids and shot him a glance.
Qin Guanglin chuckled twice, "We’re living together."
"And then?"
"There’s no ’and then’, I’m just happy."
He Fang rolled her eyes at him and put away her phone to lie down properly, "Hurry up and sleep, we still have to go out tomorrow."
"Mhm, let’s sleep together."
Qin Guanglin shifted his body to lie flat, his hands on his abdomen, ready for sleep in a prim and proper pose, like a dead man.
But as soon as he closed his eyes, images of big rabbits with red eyes would pop up in his mind.
This wouldn’t do; he opened his eyes to look at the ceiling, striving to erase that image, or else he’d end up having some nonsensical dreams even if he managed to fall asleep.
Perhaps because he had slept a bit earlier, Qin Guanglin wasn’t the least bit sleepy, lying stiff as a board in his bed, silently reciting poems he had memorized before, forcing himself not to glance at the other bed.
The person in the other bed wasn’t sleeping well either, tossing and turning every so often, seeming to also be suffering from insomnia.
As time ticked away second by second, Qin Guanglin, hearing the movement of the other turning over, couldn’t help wanting to speak with her. But then he thought better of it, realizing that would only make it harder to sleep. So, he dismissed the idea.
"Classmate Qin?" He Fang called out softly.
Just as he was about to respond, he held himself back. He couldn’t disrupt tomorrow’s plans; they could chat anytime, but in the middle of the night, it was better to sleep early to have energy for the next day.
There was a sound from the other bed, and it seemed like He Fang got up, followed by the soft sound of footsteps.
"Mr. Qin?"
This time the voice arose right beside Qin Guanglin, "Are you asleep?"
Qin Guanglin’s heart skipped a beat. Was this woman trying to sneak a kiss from him again? In the dead of night... He worked hard to steady his breathing rhythm, closing his eyes to make himself appear asleep.
"Are you really asleep?" He Fang continued in a low voice. After waiting a moment, she tiptoed over and gently pulled his hand away; then there was a soft sound on the bed as she squeezed in.
Resting her head against Qin Guanglin’s arm and rubbing it, He Fang let out a sigh of relief; now she should be able to sleep well.
Qin Guanglin’s heart was pounding wildly, his body tensed and not daring to move, the scent of shampoo wafting from beside him. He began to wonder if he was dreaming.
No, he had never even dreamed of such a thing.
Sneaking into his bed in the middle of the night...
The person beside him breathed more and more steadily and deeply, falling asleep in a matter of moments, while Qin Guanglin remained rigid, not daring to move for fear of waking her.
Suddenly, he thought about looking up on Baidu to see how to deal with this situation... His favorite person was lying right next to him, making sleep even more elusive.
He didn’t know how long it had been before he dared to move ever so slightly, pretending to turn over, he gently laid his other hand on her back and softly exhaled a breath of relief.
It really was comfortable.
Qin Guanglin opened his eyes in the dark, trying hard to look at the person beside him. The light was too dim to make anything out clearly, but he could feel the moist warmth of her breath on his arm, warm and soft.
The damned woman was just being stubborn, claiming she would kick him out, and now wasn’t she sneaking over herself?
Indeed, people in love think alike; what he thought, she also thought. It was just shyness, that’s all.
Amidst his jumbled thoughts, Qin Guanglin wasn’t sure if he had fallen asleep or not, but he would open his eyes every so often to take a peek at her. Although he could only see her silhouette, it gave him a comforting feeling.
Every time He Fang stirred slightly, he would immediately open his eyes, quietly waiting to see if she would make any other movements before closing his eyes again to try to fall asleep.
This half-asleep, half-awake state persisted until the sky began to brighten. He Fang stirred again, and Qin Guanglin instinctively opened his eyes. Seeing her moving as if she were about to wake up, he quickly pretended to fall back asleep.
He felt the person next to him shift slightly, then hold him even tighter. They lay quietly for a while until Qin Guanglin couldn’t resist the urge to open his eyes to see whether she was truly awake. That’s when she lifted her head, leaned over and planted a kiss on him, then carefully removed his hand from her back and quietly got out of bed.
Qin Guanglin remained motionless, playing along with her act. It wouldn’t be good to expose her now—she might become embarrassed and angry, and what if that made her not want to come over that night?
Just when he thought He Fang had returned to her own bed, she grabbed his hand again. She gently pulled it to the edge of the bed, rubbed it against her calf, and then placed it back.
"Satisfied with that, Mr. Pig’s Trotters?" He Fang muttered softly, then bent down to kiss him again.
Qin Guanglin was a bit confused. Had she realized he was pretending to be asleep?
After an internal struggle, he simply opened his eyes. There was no point in pretending after being found out.
He Fang jumped when he suddenly opened his eyes. "When did you wake up?!"
"..." Qin Guanglin was stunned again, and after a moment he replied, "Just now, when you kissed me awake."
Apparently, she hadn’t noticed... best to keep playing along.
"What’s this?" he asked, feigning confusion as he rubbed his eyes.
"I just went to the restroom... I saw you sleeping soundly and thought I’d reward you." He Fang made up an excuse, then looked at him with a skeptical eye. "Did you really just wake up?"
"What, did you do something before I woke up?" Qin Guanglin asked quizzically.
"No, how could I?" He Fang said nonchalantly, turning back to lie down on her own bed. "It’s still early, let’s keep sleeping."
Qin Guanglin stretched and murmured to himself, "Why is my arm so sore?"
"Don’t sleep with your arm under you," He Fang glanced at him. "Of course your arm will be sore if you sleep on it."
"Oh, that’s why," Qin Guanglin nodded, feigning realization.
This woman really knows how to play pretend.
"Last night I dreamed that I was holding you the whole time." He tugged at the blanket, pulling it up to his neck, leaving only his head exposed as he watched her.
He Fang also tucked herself inside the blanket, with just her head showing. "You’re always dreaming such nonsense."
"What’s nonsensical about it? I was just holding you, that’s all I did." Qin Guanglin struggled to keep a straight face, afraid he wouldn’t be able to suppress his laughter.
This girlfriend of his was so adorable; she had done it all, yet she was too embarrassed to admit it.
"As the saying goes, ’our day’s thoughts shape our dreams at night’. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking," He Fang maintained an air of innocence.
"Then can I come over to your side?" he asked.
"No, don’t even think about it."
"Alright then."
Qin Guanglin couldn’t help but smile. She would come over on her own at night anyway.
"What are you laughing at?" He Fang looked at him suspiciously. Why was he laughing out of the blue?
"I just remembered something happy."
"What happy thing?"
"Hmm... I’m about to win a hundred thousand beans."
"That fast?"
The sky was just beginning to lighten, the sun had yet to rise.
The two of them lay on their sides, facing each other across the gap, chatting intermittently.
Having the person you love by your side, that’s the most beautiful thing of all.
