CHAPTER 296: CHAPTER 296 JUST TO COMPLETE THE MISSION

"Why are you doing fine at school and suddenly someone is harassing you online?"

Sang Ning reasonably suspected that Sang Chuan was just tired of studying and was making up excuses to avoid school.

"Sis—" Sang Chuan suddenly called out to Sang Ning with exaggerated emotion and followed up, "I’ve been keeping up with the trending topics on Weibo these past couple of days. You being harassed online is practically the same as me being harassed. This is such a huge deal; how can you shoulder it all alone and not tell me? I’m the only man in the family, and at the very least, I can lend you my shoulder to cry on."

Sang Ning thought to herself, Where does that leave your dad? But instead, she asked, "You use that kid’s toy smart phone; how do you even browse Weibo?"

The online harassment was her personal issue, and Sang Ning didn’t want Sang Chuan wasting time on anything other than studying.

He had less than a year to prepare, during which he needed to make up for three years of high school material. Time was extremely tight.

"I don’t have a phone, but my teachers and classmates do. Sis, this thing about you is so big; how could I not know?" Sang Chuan said in a tone full of concern.

"Leave adult matters to adults. You just focus on your studies." Sang Ning didn’t want her personal issues to divert Sang Chuan’s attention.

The word "kid" hit a nerve for Sang Chuan, and he instantly began hopping mad. "Sang Ning, I’m not a kid! I’m just worried about you! Are you trying to take away even my right to care about you?"

Even through the phone, Sang Ning could tell Sang Chuan must be gritting his teeth in frustration right now.

"I don’t care. Anyway, today I’m sticking with you. Come to school and pick me up now; I want to go home!" After throwing a tantrum, Sang Chuan’s tone turned assertive and domineering.

Sang Ning felt a headache coming on. In his mind, she must look like someone silently shedding tears, wounded and alone.

How could she make Sang Chuan understand that she wasn’t as fragile as he imagined?

"I don’t need anyone to accompany me. You focusing on your studies is the greatest reassurance you can give me." Sang Ning tried to reason with him.

"No way!" Sang Chuan shot back without hesitation. "Sang Ning, it’s the weekend. I haven’t been home in ages, and you haven’t come to see me in ages either. I miss home. Could you let me go back for the weekend? Please, I’m begging you!"

As he finished speaking, Sang Chuan’s tone softened.

As Sang Ning’s only brother, how could he let her face such things alone?

Sang Ning fell silent, not responding, so Sang Chuan began threatening her again: "Sang Ning, I order you to come pick me up right now! If you don’t, I’ll jump off the top of the school building, and tomorrow, the social news headlines will be about me. Just in time to meet you, the entertainment section headline. We siblings could have a grand reunion at the top!"

"Sang Chuan, are you looking to die or something..." Sang Ning’s eye twitched, "Sit tight; I’m on my way."

Sang Ning agreed to Sang Chuan’s request, not because of his threats, but because his reason touched her heart.

He said he hadn’t been home in a long time, and Sang Ning’s sympathy instantly swelled up. She even pictured an injured kitten gazing up at her pitifully with its little paws scratching at her.

Although Sang Chuan’s school had boarding facilities, students could still return home for weekends without much hassle.

When Sang Ning arrived at the school, Sang Chuan was already packed and waiting at the school gate.

He didn’t have much luggage—just a backpack. It seemed he truly intended to stay home only for a weekend before returning.

With his backpack slung over his shoulders and hands stuffed in his pockets, Sang Chuan stood crookedly on the spot, mimicking a whistle, his eyes wandering all over the place until they unintentionally spotted a vehicle in the distance.

Sang Ning rolled down the car window and waved towards Sang Chuan, calling out, "Hey, kiddo! I’m here; get in the car!"

But before Sang Chuan could walk over, an awkward incident occurred.

"Miss Sang Ning, my task is complete. Please step out of the car; someone else will be here to take over from me." The driver turned his head and removed his sunglasses as he spoke to Sang Ning.

Sang Ning felt a question mark slowly form in her mind. Wait, this driver recognized her?

She had merely hailed this car randomly from the street after walking downstairs.

Hold on, something suddenly seemed off. The entire incident of catching the car felt a little *too* smooth. Just as she stepped onto the pavement, the car immediately stopped beside her with the window rolled down, asking for her destination.

"You know me?" Sang Ning gripped the car door handle, her eyes sharp and instantly on alert.

Her gaze shifted, and her entire demeanor changed. The driver immediately raised both hands in surrender: "Don’t misunderstand! I mean no harm! My boss is just a big fan of yours, and I’m acting on his behalf."

"Boss?" Sang Ning’s mouth twitched. What kind of era is this? Who still keeps talking about ’bosses’ and ’masters’?

"Who’s your boss?" Sang Ning remained wary, finding the man’s behavior increasingly strange.

"My boss is arriving soon. If you step out now, you should be able to meet him." The driver gestured for her to exit the car.

Sang Ning heard the sound of the car doors unlocking. Turning the handle again, the door opened freely this time. She stepped out naturally, distancing herself from this strange driver.

"Miss Sang Ning, I wish you and my boss a lovely evening together," the driver said through the car window as he left, offering his most sincere blessings.

Sang Ning stared after the departing car, her face blank. Clearly, this driver was not only weird but also deeply unwell.

Standing beside Sang Chuan now, Sang Ning muttered in mild dismay, "Based on the area around your school, it doesn’t seem convenient to hail a cab. Hold on; I’ll order another ride online. The previous driver seemed... off."

"Sis, no need to," Sang Chuan raised his hand, stopping her from summoning another ride.

Sang Ning slowly looked up at him, her eyes full of questioning confusion.

"What’s with you? There’s no car now. Your school is so far—do you plan for us to walk back?"

As she spoke to Sang Chuan, Sang Ning suddenly realized she hadn’t paid the previous driver any fare!

"It’s fine. My brother-in-law will pick us up," Sang Chuan said out of nowhere.

Just as Sang Ning was calculating how to settle the unpaid fare, Sang Chuan dropped this nonchalant bomb.

Sang Ning’s eyes widened, staring at Sang Chuan like she had seen a ghost, "Wait, who’s your brother-in-law?"

She hadn’t yet disclosed anything about her and Li Juezhou to the Sang Family, right?

Was this brat bluffing, or did he genuinely know?

Her answer came quickly enough—a sleek business car slowly pulled up in front of them both.

The passenger-side window rolled down, and through it, Sang Ning glimpsed the person sitting in the driver’s seat.
