CHAPTER 62: SYSDI 62: THE VALREPITE MANOR
Evan was led by a servant through the eastern wing of the manor. He had to follow the servant up the stairs to be led to his new room.
While the study that he had just came from with Spire and Sir Theobald was already opulent, the entrance more so. He had already passed by the area earlier, but the hanging lights from the ceiling is still something to behold.
The floors were covered in a long, purple rug, with lines of good at the edge. The lines were at the end of the rug itself, seemingly as if it is supposed to be unnoticed but it is noticeable anyway.
The walls were in a bright, pale yellow that is more pleasing to the eyes than painful the more one stares. It complements the color of the place while also making use of the light from outside to make everything more visible.
Each corners have unique patterns, while potted plants serve to make the room feel alive without making it feel too suffocating.
It is such a big room that it takes a while for someone like Evan to walk from left to right side of the house. This is a big change from Evan’s usual short walk from his room to the kitchen and living room combined of his childhood home. Everything was within arm’s reach or short distance.
Evan knows that it will take a long time to get used to this.
"Here’s your room." The servant says, bowing his head for a moment before opening the door for Evan.
Just from the door opening, Evan can see that the room given to him is as big as the space his parents’ house is. It is dark inside, until the servant turns the lights on.
"This is really my room?" Evan asked, turning to the servant.
He only got a nod in return.
"Okay..." Evan walks towards the door.
The moment he steps foot fully inside, the servant is about to turn and leave.
"Ah, please wait."
The servant stops.
Evan scratched the back of his head. "Is it possible for me to write a letter to send to my parents? I got here on the Young Lady Spire’s whim while she was out. I didn’t get the chance to let my parents know..."
"Oh..." The servant points at a desk inside the room but did not dare step passed the door frame. "Your desk over there is equipped with paper and pen. You can write your message with it. I will have Sir Adrian come around to knock on your door in an hour."
Evan knows that the messenger that sent the message to him and the one he sent the letter back is Adrian, from Spire mentioning it to her, so he nods his head. "Yes, please. Thank you."
The servant bows. "Anything for the Young Master Evan."
Before Evan could correct the servant, he is already walking away to do as was requested.
Why would the servant call him young master? He’s not really a Valrepite. He had just arrived today. Somehow, they are treating as if he is part of the family even if he is really just employed to work as a watch guard for Spire.
Evan closed the door and looked at the ceiling. Just like the other rooms, there is a hanging light from there. One of the servants he had heard earlier called it chandelier, or something along those lines.
He walks towards his desk, mind in single-minded focus on writing a letter for his parents. He got here because Spire asked him to come with her after he responded positively to Sir Theobald’s proposal.
Although his parents support Evan’s decision, it was still way too sudden for him to leave without letting them know.
He pulled a drawer from the right and saw that there were numerous white paper in it. There is also white envelopes and a stamp there. His eyes went wide, holding a piece and running his entire palm on its surface.
"White paper." Evan mutters to himself. He returns it back to where he found it. Instead of using the paper he found, he decided to use the brown paper from his item inventory.
With a call of his status panel and then item, he took the brown paper from the air and took the pen from the desk he is on.
The pen flowed much smoother than regular pen that he used. The ink felt like it would overflow sometimes, unless Evan wrote without pushing the pen too much. It took a couple of tries to get it right. But by the end of it, the paper had less dots that made splotches of ink.
Evan released a breath he didn’t know he was holding while he was writing.
Now done with writing, he took the white envelope. He didn’t have any other envelope with him so he had no choice. He folds his paper, puts in in the envelope and stares at the stamp that he took.
Technically, Evan is part of the Valrepite at the moment. However, he is sending a letter to his parents. This is not supposed to be a business type of message. This is personal.
A brief knock on the door took his attention. He approached the door peaking on the peephole before he opens the door.
"Young Master Evan." It was unmistakably Adrian’s voice, the very same messenger that taught Evan how to use a stamp.
Evan sighs. He didn’t know if it was a brief if etiquette if every person he meets he had to correct not to call him that way, but he didn’t care. "It’s Evan, Sir Adrian. I don’t think I’m officially adopted to the Valrepite wing."
Adrian hums. "Young Master Evan." He repeats, ignoring Evan’s words. "I heard from a servant that you want a letter sent. Where is it?"
Evan hands him an envelope. "Here it is."
There is a brief confusion on Adrian’s eye, the only visible part of his body. "I can’t take that letter."
