CHAPTER 76: SYSDI 76: TRAINING WITH SIR THEOBALD 2

Evan coughed a little as he was thrown back, his back hitting the wall and then he dropped on the ground.

This is the second impact he had gotten on the wall before sliding down on the ground. But it is not his first time being batted away as if he was a fly or a bug.

Each attacks Evan had done using a brandished sword that he had borrowed from the numerous weapons compiled into each neat corners, they were all misses.

There were some close calls, and very little of those attacks, maybe 3 or 4 had Sir Theobald gasping in surprise, as if he had been caught if guard.

Evan should be celebrating about being able to do something like that. It still seems like he is missing so much. Like he had barely scratched the surface about his abilities and even if he has levelled up countless times, he is much weaker than he is supposed to be.

He is much stronger than when he first started. He knows that very well. But there is just something in his gut that felt as if it is missing.

Maybe just the lack of a better mana reserves? Evan has no way of knowing.

Sir Theobald hums, his right hand raised up in the air as if he had just put pressure onto Evan. "Ah, you have much to learn still. You are still hesitating to attack. You tried to use Spire’s stance earlier. If it is working for you, continue. But if doesn’t, drop it."

Evan shook his head and stood back up. He had been falling and getting up and falling over and over again for the past few minutes. The clothing that he should be wearing for show outside doesn’t seem to be the right one to be used in a sparring session.

Next time, he would have to wear something more comfortable. Evan knows there will be a next time after all.

Since he did not voice out a reply, Sir Theobald walks over to him. "All right, that’s enough for today. I wanted to gauge your abilities and you seem to go over my expectations each and every time."

"But I didn’t use any mana based abilities." Evan countered.

All he did on their spar was him attacking with a sword. Sure, he has a use for his Void ability, but he is not about to use that on Sir Theobald, no matter how strong or tough he is.

Not to mention that he will be using Void more tonight, so he can connect the walls. It was the plan that he had in the works for tonight.

He is not just about to waste a mana point for a spar. But he could afford it tomorrow instead.

"You did not, yes." Sir Theobald agrees. "But that is fine. I wanted to see what you are capable of and I saw it. I tested you and you are incredible with the sword. I am curious, do you have a master?"

Evan looked at him in confusion. Master? The only person he knows as master is Sir Theobald. Even then, Sir Theobald does not allow him to call him a master either.

"I don’t know what you mean."

"Oh?" Sir Theobald raised an eyebrow. "Master swordsman who made you their apprentice to learn the ways of the sword under their tutelage. No master?"

Evan shook his head. "If that is what you mean, then no. I read books about swordsmanship and taught myself how. I practiced every single day that I can."

There is a little bit of silence between them before an amused chuckle came from Sir Theobald.

"Ah, young Evan, you do not disappoint! You and Spire meeting might have been a play of fate after all! Come back here tomorrow for another spar. Then, if you are willing, I will teach you how to bring forth that mana you seemed to be unable to harness. I shall be your temporary mana teacher, until the entrance exams. Are you willing?" Sir Theobald asked, offering a hand to help him stand.

Evan grins and nodded his head without hesitation. "I will be here tomorrow. I shall be in your care for as long as you’ll have me."

He takes the offered hand and helped him to stand up. Evan bows his head in thanks. "I’m going back in my room to change. I don’t think I should use clothes like this next time."

"Until then, young Evan. I will see you around."

Evan made his way up the stairs and then back out of the door. When he opened the door, he saw that Joshua is leaning a little against the wall.

Just like the servant had said earlier, he had waited for him.

Joshua immediately got closer to him and held the door for him. Then, he bowed his head and waited for Evan to step out. Only when Evan did step out, did Joshua close the door from the room.

Evan looks at him as he began to walk back to his room. "Joshua, do you know what time it is?"

"It is around eleven in the morning." Joshua replies. "I haven’t actually checked myself, but I can hear some commotion by the kitchen, so no doubt they were preparing for lunch since a couple minutes ago."

Evan stopped in front of his room. Before he could raised his hand to open the door for himself, Joshua had already stepped out to open it for him.

Before Joshua left him with his own devices, he asked the servant about preparing the bath for him. After the bath was drawn, Joshua excused himself finally and Evan is left in the shower room of his bedroom.

As Evan cleaned himself, he knows for sure that there are a lot of things he can learn from Sir Theobald. Now that the head of the house of the Valrepite’s had offered to personally train him, he knew that things are about to change from tomorrow on out.
