Chapter160

He wore a gray bathrobe, the belt tied loosely, the cor open,

revealing his solid muscles and still–healing scars.

He reached for a cigarette and a lighter, took one out and bit it

between his lips, but when he nced back and saw Harriet,

Ellsworth immediately tossed the cigarette and lighter back

onto the cab.

Then, with little emotion, he spoke into the phone: “Go ahead.”

As soon as Ellsworth answered, Kelsey’s voice came through

quickly: “Ells, has Harae back?”

Ellsworth replied, “She has.”

Ellsworth’s attitude toward Kelsey seemed no different from

how he treated Johnathan or Noel.

Hearing Ellsworth’s response, Kelsey said, “Ells, here’s the thing.

I went to see Hara this morning to consult her on some

professional matters, but somehow I made her angry.”

“Hara left in a huff, and I didn’t get a chance to apologize. So if she’s back, could you help me apologize to her? Tell her I’ll treat

her to a meal next time.”

Kelsey asked him to apologize on her behalf, and Ellsworth’s

face showed displeasure.

Staring indifferently at the night outside the yard, watching the

moonlight cast the tree’s shadow into a blur, Ellsworth said

coldly, “Don’t bother her so much in the future. Stay away from

her.”

Kelsey thought Ellsworth was concerned for her by telling her to stay away from Harriet, so she replied with a breezyugh, “Don’t worry, Ells, I get it now. But honestly, Hara was really

unreasonable today, and it put me and Grace in a bad mood.”

Kelsey assumed Ellsworth was worried about her, so she added,

“But it’s fine, I can handle it.”

Ellsworth listened to her but said nothing more. With a calm

expression, he simply hung up the phone.

By then, Harriet had already changed clothes and tied up her

hair with a red w clip.

Ellsworth casually tossed his phone onto the cab, put his

hands in his pockets out of habit, and looked at Harriet, asking with little emotion, “Did Kelseye to see you today?”

Chapter160

Harriet looked up.

Their eyes met. She stared at Ellsworth in silence, probably

guessing what Kelsey had just told him.

After looking at Ellsworth for a while, Harriet finally spoke in a

calm voice: “Are you here to apologize for her, or to help her

demand an exnation?”

As soon as Harriet finished, Ellsworth burst outughing.

Heughed heartily.

Afterughing, he said, “I’m not anything to her. Why would I

apologize for her? Or demand an exnation for her?”

Ellsworth made it clear that there was nothing between him and

Kelsey. Harriet rolled her eyes at him in annoyance, then went

to the wardrobe to get her pajamas for a shower.

Seeing this, Ellsworth teased her, “Are you taking it out on me

now?”

Harriet being willing to sulk with him actually made Ellsworth

quite happy. He enjoyed seeing her feisty side.

Ellsworth didn’t take things seriously. Holding her clothes,

Chapter160

Harriet turned to look at him and said, “Ellsworth, do you know

why Kelsey came to me? She wanted me to betray Gxy

Innovations, to give her the patented technology.”

“Do you all think I’m stupid, that I’m easier to push around than

my parents?”

Hearing Harriet’sst two sentences, Ellsworth quickly replied,

“No.”

Ellsworth suddenly dropped his joking manner and answered

her question very seriously.

For a moment, Harriet was at a loss for words because of

Ellsworth’s reaction.

After Kelsey’s repeated provocations, Harriet was indeed angry

today. She had nned to use this as an opportunity to vent her

frustrations with Ellsworth, to have a good fight and let out

years of pent–up resentment.

But Ellsworth wasn’t taking the bait today.

Harriet stared at Ellsworth for a long time, then turned her face

away.

She didn’t look at him again.

Chapter160

Ellsworth gazed at the side of Harriet’s face. Her features were

striking–her nose was straight, her lips and chin, her brows and

eyes, every part of her face was beautiful.

Harriet stayed silent, refusing to look at him directly.

She had just mentioned her parents. Ellsworth let out a soft

sigh, feeling a pang of emotion.

The bedroom was very quiet.

Seeing Harriet holding her clothes, refusing to look at him or

speak, Ellsworth walked over, took her arm, and pulled her into

his embrace.

Harriet looked up at Ellsworth, her hands pressed against his

chest, ready to push him away. But Ellsworth kissed her

forehead and said softly, “No.”

“I never thought you were stupid, and I never wanted to bully

you.”

Hearing Ellsworth’s exnation, Harriet immediately turned her

face away.

Seeing this, Ellsworth pulled her back into his arms, gently

stroking her back with his right hand tofort her.

Chapter160

Harriet didn’t look at Ellsworth, nor did she say anything.
