Chapter43

Chapter43

Looking at Ellsworth, Harriet smiled gently and said, “I’m twenty-

three.”

After hearing this, Ellsworth responded with an ‘oh’ and then

said lightly, “Only twenty-three? I thought you were twenty-five

or twenty-six.”

Harriet said, “I took the college entrance exam early and got

epted. I graduated from university at twenty and came to

the Townsend Group right after.”

Ellsworth smiled and praised her, “That’s impressive.”

Harriet smiled as well, “It’s alright.”

As Harriet smiled, Ellsworth kept both hands on the back of the

bench, turning his face slightly, staring straight at her.

Under Ellsworth’s intense gaze, Harriet instinctively raised her

hand to wipe the corner of her mouth, thinking maybe some

food had stuck to her face.

But Ellsworth said. “There’s nothing on your face.”

Chapter43

After Ellsworth spoke, Harriet put her hand down and smiled at

him.

She still liked him. Being able to chat with him like this made her

happy, but she also knew in her heart that there was no future

for her and Ellsworth.

Harriet smiled, but Ellsworth didn’t even blink.

Harriet was beautiful, with a gentle and graceful temperament,

pure yet alluring, especially now with a touch of weary fragility.

Ellsworth felt a reaction.

Noticing Ellsworth staring at her, Harriet felt awkward.

She pressed her lips together, avoiding his gaze, and was about

to find a topic to talk about when Ellsworth suddenly grabbed

her chin, making her look at him again.

Harriet was startled.

Before she could ask what he was doing, Ellsworth leaned in

and kissed her on the lips.

Her eyes flew open wide, blinking several times in a row, her

hands reflexively clenching into fists.

Chapter43

Holding her breath, she wanted to push Ellsworth away, but with

his hand cupping her face, she couldn’t move at all.

She couldn’t refuse.

She didn’t close her eyes, just looked at Ellsworth like that.

He was very passionate, his lips soft, kissing her until her face

flushed, her heart raced, and her limbs went weak.

He was very skilled.

After the heated kiss, Ellsworth didn’t remove his hand from her

face. His thumb gently stroked her cheek as he looked into her

eyes and asked, “Do you still insist on getting a divorce?”

Not far away, Keh was wearing ck dress pants and a

white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, carrying thete-night

snack he had brought for Harriet.

During this period, he was on vacation at home, so he

frequented the hospital, making several trips a day, even

Seeing Harriet and Ellsworth getting along so closely, Keh

didn’t approach them.

Chapter43

He turned and left for the elevator, pressed the button, and

then, as if nothing had happened, ced thete-night snack on

the trash can nearby.

Inside were all the things Harriet liked to eat.

When the elevator doors opened, Keh put his hands back in

his pockets and strode into the elevator.

He was calm andposed, exuding a quiet confidence,

without showing much emotion.

Over in the corridor.

Harriet removed his hand from her face, avoided his gaze, and

said, “We’re not right for each other.”

Ellsworth smiled, “There’s no such thing as perfect

Earlier at the bar, he said he wouldn’t try to coax Harriet.

But before the night was over, he had already gone back on his

word.

He had never really considered getting a divorce.

Especially after these three years together, he felt there was no

need for such a pointless move.

Harriet looked up, surprised that after Ellsworth had dyed

things, he was now changing his mind again.

Catching Harriet’s gaze, Ellsworth smiled, “Why are you looking

at me like that?”

He tried tofort her again, saying, “I’ll move back home from

now on.”

But Harriet asked him seriously, “Did my grandpa say

something to you? Actually, you don’t have to take his words so

seriously. Don’t force yourself. It’s most important that you

follow your own heart.”

?

Ellsworth’s suddenpromise was probably because

Grandpa had talked to him, maybe not wanting her to get

divorced, afraid she’d have no one to rely on.

Both grandfather and granddaughter were urging him to leave.

With his eyes lowered, Ellsworth fell silent.

His hands restedzily on the back of the chair. He didn’t respond to Harriet, just gazed quietly at the wall opposite.

Turning her face, Harriet stared motionlessly at Ellsworth.

Chapter43

After looking at Ellsworth for a while, Harriet withdrew her gaze,

looked back at the bulletin board across from her, and sighed,

“If only we could have discussed things from the start, if only

we had tried.”

Ellsworth turned his head and said in a calm voice, “It’s not too

Harriet shook her head, “There’s no going back.”
