CHAPTER 190: CHAPTER 190- SHELTER IX & THE ARCANISTS (4)
These golems were not a difficult opponent. However, given their numbers and ability to quickly predict attacks, they were starting to become quite a headache.
At this moment, his eyes went towards the knights of the Lunar Veil. As one of the Seven Great Knight Orders, they were able to perfectly fend off the onrushing golems. What’s more, their pace was even faster than the order of the Temple of Light.
Their commander especially, she was a knight in her own league. With every slash and swing, a visually impact half crescent moon would appear, bisecting the golem in droves. From his eyes, she looked as powerful as his own Commander.
"The main building is within the eyeshot. Let’s quickly take care of these golems," Leona spoke. In the direction where she was looking at, a triangular structure could be seen surfacing out of the ground.
"Sounds good to me. Let’s finish up here then." Saying that, he and Leona both unleashed hell on the golems, and before long, a mountain of junk littered around them.
"Shelter IX, a failsafe?!"
Reinhardt furrowed his brows as he read the words that were carved in the plaque just outside the weird triangular building.
"Shelter IX should be the name of this labyrinth. However, what do they mean by failsafe?" Leona tilted her head in confusion.
"Well, we will find it out once we go inside that thing," Reinhardt gestured at the gigantic pyramid in front of them.
A weathered ruin half swallowed by the earth. At a glance, there was no door or window to get in. However, if one looked carefully, they would be able to see that the entrance was well hidden behind a collapsed cliff face, veiled by vines and the weight of time.
With the two Commanders in front, the knight orders followed behind. The inside of the building was no different than its exterior. Wild vines and forest had found their way inside and had mostly covered the walls and everything inside.
Nevertheless, this did not matter to the knights who came here to plunder the resources and treasures left behind by the ancient civilisation. In front of them, with the vast chamber, lay the forgotten relics of the ancient times.
Books sealed in glass tubes, their pages shifting automatically. Artifacts suspended in the air and untouched by time, scrolls encoded with living ink that constantly wrote something. The treasure and knowledge that they came here seeking were right in front of their eyes.
"Everyone, quickly store the items that are here. Do not dilly dally, we need to move fast."
Leona hurriedly handed out orders. The Knight of the Lunar Veil, whose mission was to explore this newly surfaced ancient labyrinth, quickly got to work.
The Knights of the Temple of Light helped them. While everyone was busy storing the treasures and knowledge left behind from the ancient times, Reinhardt roamed around the chamber looking at all the things that were stored inside.
For some reason, he had this very, very vague feeling that something was amiss. However, he couldn’t put his finger on what that was. Also, since it was such a ghost of a feeling that it faded before it even formed in his head.
This stopped him from using the [Eyes of Divine Clarity]. If he did, he would have been able to see through the reality of this place. However, for now, it still remained hidden.
"Quick, everyone, I found something!" A high ranking knight from the Lunar Veil suddenly yelled out.
Her voice immediately attracted the attention of the two Commanders who appeared before her in a couple of steps.
"What’s going on?" Leona asked.
"Commander, I found something, it appears to be some kind of sealed door," The knight reported.
Reinhardt placed his attention in the direction she was pointing at. At a closer look, there indeed appeared to be a door there, so perfectly camouflaged that one would just glance over it if one did not pay attention.
Just like the knight mentioned, it appeared to be some kind of sealed door. It did not open, no matter what they tried, leaving only force as the last resort.
CREAK... CREAK... BANG... Using her superhuman stats, Leona ripped apart the door, which was made of incredibly sturdy metal. From her action, it was clear that she wasn’t going to let a door get in the way of her mission.
Or maybe it was just taking out some frustration for being stalled for so long on the fifth floor, on the poor door. In any case, the door stopping them was now gone.
Following a step behind Leona, Reinhardt entered the room.
"This is... " Unlike the chamber before, the room was extremely small and was designed to be covert and compact in mind. That said, it was not the size of the room that attracted their attention but rather the thing that was in here.
Inside, resting on a pedestal of obsidian glass, hovered a single object: A schematic, etched into a rotating cube. From the drawings and design, Reinhardt reckoned that it was a blueprint of something. However, what exactly that was, was unknown.
"There is something written here." While his attention was on the cube, Leona pointed at the words carved at the base of the pedestal.
"The Great Federation had really done it; they unleashed what shouldn’t have been unleashed. The prophecy, what gods feared, what they released.. the convergence event... era... technology... ideology... collision... reality fractured. It was a complete collapse of the ecosystem, memory, and meaning."
It appeared to be some kind of record from someone from the ancient times. However, because of the passage of time or maybe the person himself was not in his right mind, his writing was quite distorted and omitted many facts and words that made it difficult to understand.
Nevertheless, Leona kept reading.
"To fight it, we unleashed the Vermis Ultima, also known as the last worm. Its purpose was singular: to annihilate all demonkind, root and crown. However... converge... then came the four"...
