CHAPTER 28: 28

XAVIER

"You are just being unreasonable," Brian called from behind, chasing me into my study.

"Let it be Brian, she is not your responsibility," I replied with a dismissive tone, but he was not ready to drop it yet.

He had been following me around talking about how mean I had been to Nylah.

Brian always had a soft spot for weak females, but he hadn’t disturbed me for anyone’s sake the way he has done for Nylah, and I could not help but suspect he had feelings for her.

"How can you claim to protect your people but hurt someone who’s under your care?" He protested, placing his hands on my table, blocking the view of my computer.

"What is it with her, Brian? Let her be." I groaned, trying to suppress the urge to claw his throat to get him to stop talking.

This was the only problem I had with Brian. He loved poking his nose in matters that did not concern him.

I wanted Nylah in ways I have never wanted another, and I could not tell him this. He would think it is just another one of my ways to keep her here against her will. Well, she is mine now and even her will belong to me.

"I let every other lady you brought in here go, and they did not go so well. Nylah is a good person, and I’m not going to let you scar another female." If it was not because of how close Brian and I were, I could’ve done whatever I could to shut him up.

I had yet to speak, mainly because I didn’t want to hold the conversation, Brian’s next words made me wish I said something to pacify him.

"Fine! You do not want to let Nylah go, but what about Ivy and the Red Moon pack? Her father and a lot more at stake? You promised to get married to their princess so we can be allies but mainly because they have more manpower." My stomach churned as he spoke. I wanted to stop him from talking, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him the reason why I had not reached out to my supposed bride-to-be.

"You brought her to the pack, introduced her to everyone, and she went back to get ready for the marriage, but we both know you’re no longer interested. Her father and Alpha of the Red Moon pack had reached out, but you’ve ignored his calls and texts, claiming that you’re busy." If only he knew that the reason I paused my marriage to Ivy was because of Nylah.

From the bonfire night when I saw her drenched, her skin glowing in the burning light, I couldn’t get her off my head. She seemed so... Innocent, so pure that I wanted to draw her to me and get into her until she was lost in my darkness.

"Look, I do not care what you do or don’t do with lays all over the place. I just want Nylah to be left out of it. She’s innocent..." I stopped hearing Brian’s voice at that point.

Of course, she’s innocent and pure... that is what is drawing me to her, her innocence. I want to take it slowly from her and replace it with a part of myself until I’m the only thing she can think of.

"I will take responsibility for Nylah." My attention returned when I heard her name again.

"She is mine Brian, don’t push it." With those words, I returned my attention to the pile of files waiting to be signed.

"You just focus on finding a healer or a good doctor." I added, my attention fixated on the files.

Brian huffed and left my study, finally leaving me with my filty thoughts about how I wanted to take her and make her mine. I know she’s mine, but I wanted every part of her body, mind, and soul to be mine.

And even though I could take her by force, get her to do whatever I wanted, I wanted her to consent to it while I devored her.

’shit, get her off your mind, man.’ I cursed under my breath and tried to focus on the paperwork when I got a call.

It was from one of my managers at one of my bars in the city, and from the way he sounded, it seemed like an emergency.

"What is the matter?" I asked when the call connected.

"It’s the project. Our rival company is causing some issues for us, claiming boundaries and disrupting work from going on." He informed, and I nodded.

I had a lot of rivals, and they always made a fuss whenever they saw me starting a new branch, and this was a new bar project. It pissed them off that I thrived in a market where they barely sell.

"Make sure the work continues." I instructed, and he assured me he would.

"I will be there by this time tomorrow to handle them. Just keep the work going." I said before ending the call.

I sent it to Brian again and told him about it. He didn’t say anything for the first few seconds before asking, "Are you going to be okay alone?"

I laughed sarcastically.

"What do you take me for? A child? A baby who needs his mother to be around to give him some balls? I will handle it Brian you just need to do what I asked you to do." I replied, and I could feel the glare he shot at me.

If his eyes could shoot lasers, I would have probably been dead already.

He walked away, and I saw this short trip as a means of getting away from my thoughts. Those disturbing thoughts that didn’t let me focus, I had a perfect distraction and job to keep me busy and my mind occupied.

Never had someone been on my mind the way theis female occupied the whole space within me. Well, except for my rivals. They are always on my mind when I’m plotting ways to get rid of them or render their businesses useless.
