CHAPTER 57: 57

XAVIER

Marve chuckled at my reaction. He got me right where he wanted me, and I hated that.

"The deal with that Mexican client. What’s his name again? Doesn’t matter. You have to drop it." He stated

"You must be joking." I retorted, but he chuckled. Everything was like a joke to him.

"Even after what I’ve done to your darling brother, you think I am joking about what I want?" He asked with a smile.

"Get me the deal or end the contract with him." He requested.

"We just signed a deal not long ago. Why do you want me to end the contract?" I asked, trying to make sense of his request.

Usually, he would get sour if a client was torn between the two opinions and finally chose me, but this was not the case.

This client came to me first and signed a deal with me.

"My friends and I were... playing a bet, and they bet quite an amount if I am able to get the Mexican client from you," Marve answered with a shrug.

I couldn’t hold back my grin.

"You are doing this for some sick bet?" I asked to confirm what I’d heard, and he nodded with an innocent expression that didn’t last a minute on his face.

"I don’t like going back on my word, you see. Now that you know why I’m doing this, I’m sure you won’t hesitate to do what needs to be done..." While he spoke, one of the men beside Rex brought a knife close to his throat.

I squinted at the site.

"Let him go. I’ll have the documents arranged and brought to you." I offered, but Marve shook his head slowly.

"I don’t do such business. You bring me proof of annulment of contract or bring me the deal now, and I let him go. You don’t, I end it here now." While he threatened, I thought of five different ways to end his life without lifting two fingers, but I couldn’t make the move because of Rex.

He was badly hurt and might not be able to run if need be, so I had to do what Marve wanted to save Rex.

I brought out my phone and feigned typing on the screen. In the real sense, I was communicating with Brian. I informed him of what was going on, and he agreed that Marve was scared of what I could do to him.

The whole compound had armed men littered around, waiting for any signal for war.

I told him what Marve wanted, and he cursed.

"I have to do it," I told him, and I could imagine him gritting.

"Rex is in bad shape. I have to save life. He might be a wolf, but there is only little he can take, and he had taken enough little." I explained. I only heard a sigh, and that was my go-ahead.

I emailed the Mexican client a heartfelt message on why I was ending the contract. Of course, I didn’t tell him my brother was apprehended and tortured, and I was forced to do this to save him. I told him I had to take care of something that came up, and I was going to be extremely busy.

And I don’t like handling clients’ jobs without my full attention.

I shoved my phone in Marve’s face, and he nodded with a smile when he read the message.

"Good." He replied. "We have to wait for their response. Who knows? You might delete the message before they read it."

I glared at him, and he ordered the guards to bring Rex close to me. He knew I was losing patience.

I pulled Rex up and noticed his feet were wobbly. I couldn’t deal with this. I turned to Marve.

"You’ll get the proof of annulment from me soon," I told him, and then I took steps closer to him. I could see his eyes flicker with fear as I got close to him.

I leaned in close to his ear.

"If you ever try this shit again. I will make sure I bring you down without waiting to hear what you have to say. I will send the total bill for damages, and you will pay, or my lawyer will take it up from there." I finished and pulled Rex along with me.

Brian approached me the moment he saw me walking out with Rex.

He took Rex from me and walked to the waiting car. I slipped in, and we took off.

"So, Marve made us travel states just to win a bet?" Brian asked. He looked pissed.

"He had to leave the city and come to a secluded area where he could have as many men guard him and fight me if I wanted to oppose," I replied. Eyes fixed on the road.

"So, what are you going to do about him?" Brian asked, referring to Rex, who laid on his shoulders like a lifeless toad.

He was still breathing. My wolf felt it. But he was weak, too weak. He had been tortured to his bones, and his wolf was weak too.

I shook my head.

"We will need to make a stop. Begin treatment first. We can’t go back with him in this state." I replied.

"I felt bruises on his back. I think he was chained and beaten with iron." Brian added.

I didn’t get along with Rex the way brothers were meant to, but I wouldn’t stand by and watch someone else treat him like a criminal. When all he did was go to discuss with him

"Marve. That bastard!" I muttered, anger stirring up within me.

"Let’s get Rex to safety first and begin treatment," Brian said with a calm voice. That voice that dismisses everything.

We got to an apartment— I had one in almost every city in case of visits like this.

"I’ll call a doctor," Brian said. Walking out of the room, he put Rex to rest.

He added when he saw my face. "I will get one who knows what he’s dealing with." we were wolves, and our reactions to some medications may differ. Rex needed a doctor who understood that and who could keep his mouth shut about it.

I nodded, and he walked away.
