The Alpha's Stripper Mate: Sold To Be His.
Chapter 65
CHAPTER 65: 65
XAVIER
"You already have men following her. You’re making it too obvious," Brian spoke from behind.
"She already knows," I replied and turned around.
"You should give her a little space to breathe. She’s been here since you took her from her life in the city." He continued, following behind me.
"What do you think I did, Brian? Smart thinking."
"Yes, I can see that you let her go see her friend, but you look like you want to change your mind about her going. You’re staring at her like you are going to stop her from going."
"I don’t know if you thought through it yet, but she is a target to my enemies. As many of them who know about her will look to use her to get me. Ivy and her father have been silent. They surely are on the lookout, and they’re going to take any opportunity they have."
Brian nodded thoughtfully
"Ohh..."
"Yeah, oh," I replied
"But for real, that’s not all right? That’s not the only reason why you look like this. You miss her." He teased.
I shook my head with a sigh.
"You are here because you used to be useful to me, but right now, do you think you’re being useful to me or this pack?" I asked, but he pouted, I don’t think he cared about that.
"I want you to investigate something for me," I said again as he didn’t take my first word seriously.
He looked serious after hearing my tone.
"What is it?"
"Those Pakistani investors... I want to know what the deal with them is. On a deeper level." Brian arched a brow at my request.
"I know a little about them, but I want to know how Rex was able to get info about them coming into this country in need of businesses to invest in, and I had no idea about it."
"Other big CEOs also had no clue. How did he reach such information that’s supposed to be for the one per cent?" I asked, my fingers stroking my jaw gently.
The arched brow on his face morphed into an intrigued brow. I know what I said made sense, and it had to be looked into.
"You have a point." He began.
Rex is not in the business world. He barely knows how things are being run here. So, how did he access such information?" He asked now, more to himself.
"Maybe he had some connection that informed him about it exclusively, but if he did, then it means he paid dearly for that connection. It should cost a fortune that he doesn’t have. Except..." Brian shot me a glance at his last word as the realization shot in.
"Except...?" I repeated.
"He had access to the company’s funds," Brian concluded, and my eyes shot open.
"They must have kept the operation discrete, and he sure did pay a fortune to shut the mouth of whoever’s involved from telling the rest of the world, even the influential CEOs." Brian continued.
He was right. The company’s funds that our parents kept for us before their deaths were supposed to be an emergency fund or something we could run to whenever we were faced with the hardest of times.
They didn’t know how well we would be able to keep up the company so they provided the funds to help us incase we couldn’t keep up and the company got shut down but Rex used the money to buy information.
"How true is this?" I muttered. It was more a question to myself than Brian, who looked at me with disbelief when I asked.
He looked at me like I’d grown horns.
"How could you ask that? You know it’s the truth, I know it’s the truth. We both know, and that’s enough proof that it is." He replied.
I knew that was the only way Rex could afford a fortune. He was chased out of the mansion, and he left the pack. He has no access to earnings from the company. Thanks to me.
And he has no skill to fetch some coins for him or a business he was good at. So there was no other way he could get so much money.
"I was told that he came to the pack looking for some herbs, right?" I asked Brian, and he paused for a minute and gave several sharp nods when his memory clicked.
"Yes, yes. But we didn’t even have much of it then. So there’s no way he could have gotten the money from that herb." Brian replied.
"what if he wasn’t looking for the herb to sell it? What if he was looking for it to give in exchange for something?" I asked out loud, and Brian gasped.
One of the reasons why we were the target of many was because the pack had access to a lot of herbs that could do different things like heal and kill.
If he had no business to sell, the only thing he could try to sell would be the reputation of the pack.
"How are we going to confirm all this?" Brian asked, instant worry written on his face.
Rex was mischievous, and he was cunning as well. He could make even the meanest enemy his ally and still betray him in the end.
"If all this is true, then we shouldn’t have let him back in!" Brian continued.
"No, it’s fine. We should let him back. Only then will I be able to monitor his movements closely?" I replied.
"I want what we discussed here not to get out no matter what. I don’t want the pack members to be in fear." I instructed.
Brian nodded.
"But what are we going to do? Are we just going to sit and fold our hands, knowing that he could be plotting to take the pack from you? For all we know, he might be plotting his biggest yet. He finds allies and might even use his current position to get whoever he wants."
I turned to Brian.
"I want you to check out all the Alpha’s. I need to know who is sick among them. I want you to have some men disguise and go to their camps, try to get word of Rex ever appearing there. I want to know who he tried to get the herb for. The person must be a vital member of his or her plan." I instructed.
"Okay,"
"I will go to the office and check out how my dear brother is holding up his new position," I added.
Brian nodded, his expression enthusiastic
"One more thing... I don’t want the people you’re sending to even know why they are going on an errand. Just tell them what to do and tell them it is very important that they get it done." Brian must have thought through the reason why I said what I said in a split second
Because he made an arched brow halfway, but it morphed into an enthusiastic one in a split minute.
Brian left after that, and I found myself walking through the passage leading to Rex’s room.
I wasn’t the sneaky type. I always smelt something that didn’t sit right, but this was different. It was my brother we’re talking here. It would do us more bad than good if I found out that my intuition was wrong.
