The Alpha's Stripper Mate: Sold To Be His.
Chapter 70
CHAPTER 70: 70
XAVIER
"Why didn’t you say anything about the man? Why didn’t you tell me you saw a sick person?" I asked Rex, who tapped on the documents with his pen nonchalantly.
He shrugged.
"What would you have done if I told you I found someone who was dying of a strange illness no one had seen before and I met him at the elders house?"
"You would think I have gone nuts if I told you I met someone who wasn’t a wolf but could hear from the moon goddess." Rex replied.
I was quiet. He was right. I would think he was on drugs or had ganged up with some rogues to ambush me and leave the pack unprotected or distract me.
There was no telling what one could do when they were hungry and Rex wasn’t exempted.
"Do you believe he hears from the goddess?" I asked.
When the man told me he heard from the goddess, at first, I didn’t believe it, but hearing Rex mention it again and it made me have second thoughts about it.
Rex shrugged.
"Well, he said he does." He replied.
That wasn’t enough for conviction. Anyone can claim that they are anything. The only ones worth believing are the ones that can prove it.
I can’t believe the stranger who just showed up and told me sweet things he knows any Alpha would rejoice at hearing.
"Well, that is not enough for me to believe him." I replied, and Rex shrugged again.
"I don’t know him too well, I just met him at an abandoned house and wanted to help him. So I can’t swear for him." He added.
"But he did tell me I have something good coming my way and told me to leave him there when I wanted to try and save him. He said the goddess told him to stay. That his helper would find him soon... something like that."
I squinted at Rex’s words.
They were just as he stated at the pack.
"Still, I’m not going to believe a random guy." I replied, my mind made up.
Rex nodded.
"It’s all up to you. You are the Alpha of your pack, right? You say who stays or who leaves. But come to think of it, I am actually in a better place now. Look at me, I have my own office, handling one of the most important clients in the company and him? He has been found. Whether or not you want to be the helper is left to you."
"The things he said did come true. I’m not saying you should let him stay because of that. Just do whatever your heart tells you to." Rex finished and picked up his documents again. A cue that he was done and I needed to leave.
I left with his words still lingering in my mind.
I still had work left at the office, so I went into my office to reduce the amount of files on my desk.
A knock sounded on my door, and my secretary, a man that is almost nonexistent, walked in.
I usually forget that I have a secretary except for days when he walks in without feeling intimidated like the other employees. Maybe it was because he works only four times a week.
"There is a problem, sir." He mentioned, his gaze fixated on the tablet in his hands.
"What is it?"
He leaned in close so I could see the screen of the tablet.
"This company took our container. When our offloaders went there, they didn’t find the goods in it. The surveillance footage showed this van pulling up just as the container was dropped." He explained.
"Have you confirmed their identity?" I asked
"They seem to be from the rival company. A and A limited." He replied.
I was about to ask which of the rival companies specifically because I had a lot of rivals.
"Have the security team ready for this. We will show this footage to the police and have them handle it while our team follows the police to ensure there is a smooth operation." I replied, and he nodded.
In the city, I worked with humans and, therefore, led a double life. I had to keep them in the dark about who I truly was or what kind of life I led in the dark realm. So, I worked with a security team over here.
Since it only made more sense to involve the police than to go on a killing spree to end all my enemies.
That way, we looked unstoppable and cool too.
My secretary left the office and I resumed work too.
After working for hours, I called it a day and returned to the pack.
I alighted the car and headed for my chambers only to meet an empty room. It was quite late by the time I got to the pack, so I was wondering why I didn’t see Nylah in my room.
Just as I was leaving my chamber, a guard arrived and informed me with a bow of regret that Nylah was having dinner with the man who we brought in.
My eyes widened at the guards’ words. I thought I didn’t hear well.
"What did you say?" I asked
"I’m sorry, boss." He bowed even more
"We tried to stop it, but ye kept talking about the moon goddess and how she wanted him to meet her. I’m sorry."
I didn’t speak again. Instead, I walked briskly to the dining room.
I met the man seated across from Nylah, who was staring blankly at him. I couldn’t tell if she was uncomfortable or if she was just trying to access him.
Whatever it was, it had to stop. I didn’t want the two talking. I hadn’t even confirmed his story and what he claimed to be, and he was already galavanting around like he owns the place.
"What is going on?" I cleared my throat.
Both their attention were divided, and he gasped when he saw me.
I arched my brow at his expression. ’Is that a smile?’ I wondered how he healed so fast and was able to flash me a bright smile.
He also looked a lot better, and the wrinkles on his face had reduced a great deal. He looked... alive.
"Just like she mentioned to me, you are here." He called out, clasping his hands together.
