CHAPTER 349: CHAPTER 349: WAILING GHOSTS AND HOWLING WOLVES
Henry Stanton made a sound of agreement and said, "Then let’s meet at the hospital entrance."
After the call ended, Summer Monroe saw the shame on Henry Stanton’s face.
For him, having a wife with a mental illness was an extremely humiliating matter.
Summer turned her face away indifferently, looking out the car window, as if completely oblivious to what just happened.
Soon, they arrived at Ross Psychiatric Hospital.
Summer opened the car door and got out, seeing Felix Jennings already waiting at the entrance.
When their eyes met, Summer clearly saw the hatred in Felix Jennings’ eyes, but it flashed quickly, replaced by a smile.
"This must be Miss Monroe?" Felix Jennings approached and said to the just-arrived Henry Stanton, "Your wife mentioned that your eldest daughter is very beautiful, and seeing her today, it is indeed true. You’re truly blessed!"
Henry Stanton loved to hear compliments, and upon hearing Felix Jennings’ praise, his face showed a smug expression.
But then Felix Jennings asked, "What exactly is your wife’s condition now? Is she... unwell?"
Henry Stanton’s face immediately darkened again.
He found it hard to speak and simply said, "You’ll know once you’re inside."
Felix Jennings nodded and walked alongside Summer Monroe towards the hospital.
After filling out the visiting forms, the medical staff led the three of them to Stella Monroe’s ward.
The psychiatric hospital’s structure was similar to a regular hospital, the only difference being the iron bars set up at each ward door, as if to confine livestock.
As soon as the door to Stella Monroe’s ward opened, Summer saw Stella bound to the bed.
Stella was in a hospital gown, her hair disheveled, her complexion as pale as paper, and she looked utterly spiritless.
Summer then glanced at Felix Jennings from the corner of her eye and saw Felix’s pupils constrict sharply, looking extremely distressed.
Ah, it seems Felix Jennings truly loves Stella Monroe.
Henry Stanton and Felix Jennings both remained silent, one feeling ashamed, the other scared of revealing himself the moment he spoke.
Summer was the first to break the silence, softly calling to the lifeless Stella staring at the ceiling, "Aunt, we’ve come to see you."
Stella, upon hearing the voice, swiftly looked towards them.
Her gaze clearly froze when it landed on Felix Jennings.
Henry Stanton stepped forward and asked, "How are you recovering?"
Stella’s eyes didn’t register Henry; instead, she looked at Summer with resentment, "It’s all your doing, you wicked woman! You must have done something!"
That was why she had those illusions, making Henry Stanton entirely believe she was insane and send her to this place where even a healthy person could be driven mad.
Listening to the wailing of the patients every day, she truly felt she was losing her mind!
Summer turned to Henry Stanton with an innocent look and said, "Dad, it seems Aunt’s mind is still not very clear."
Stella was taken aback, then burst out cursing, "You wicked woman! You despicable woman! You’ll die a miserable death!"
Stella struggled with all her might, causing the chains to clatter as if she was trying to get up and fight Summer.
But no matter how hard she tried, it was useless, because the chains were made specifically for restraining patients with mania; even the strongest person couldn’t break free, let alone Stella, a noblewoman unaccustomed to manual labor.
Henry Stanton watched Stella’s condition and shook his head, saying, "Still the same... Jennings, you might have to come back after a while. How can she be filmed in this state?"
