Chapter 196: Breakdown 3_1
CHAPTER 196: CHAPTER 196: BREAKDOWN 3_1
Just as he was turning to leave, the doorbell rang again. This happened several more times. Huang Xiaojue had almost stormed downstairs to confront the culprit when the noise finally ceased.
With the interruption, any romantic mood was dispelled. Her face flushed crimson as she lowered her head. "Xiaojue, it’s late. Be careful on your way back."
Huang Xiaojue gently embraced her, whispering, "Xixi, we must get married as soon as possible after the New Year. I can’t wait any longer..."
Her face burned, and she nodded.
He was overjoyed, his expression incredibly tender. "Xixi, did you agree? Did you accept my proposal?"
Her voice grew even quieter. "But I haven’t even seen a ring..."
"There is, there is, there definitely is one! I prepared the ring a long time ago. It’s just that things happened so suddenly today, I forgot to bring it. Don’t worry, I’ll bring it tomorrow..."
Her heartbeat quickened. Why was he in such a hurry?
His confidence soared, his eyes gleaming with fervor. "Xixi, you can’t go back on your promise now. Wait for me after work tomorrow evening."
"But... don’t you have plans tomorrow evening?"
"Nothing is more important than our marriage. So it’s settled. I’ll pick you up after work tomorrow evening."
Her white teeth gently bit her lip as she agreed, her voice almost inaudible.
"Xixi, see you tomorrow."
"Be careful on your way."
He held her tightly one last time before letting go. "I’ll call you when I get home."
Quite a while after Huang Xiaojue left, she closed all the doors and windows. Her face was still burning, and her heart was still pounding. She took a shower, lay in bed, and pulled the covers over herself. Then, suddenly, she started giggling.
She was in an extraordinarily good mood. She picked up her phone and, quite uncharacteristically, sent a message, "HA, someone proposed to me! Congratulate me."
After a while, a reply came, "Which clueless twit proposed? Is he blind as a bat?"
"HA, he’s my first love, and he treats me exceptionally well. He’s even preparing a surprise candlelight dinner for me tomorrow night. HA, I’m so looking forward to the engagement ring..."
"You sound disgustingly smitten."
Yan Xixi was in a good mood, so she didn’t bother arguing with him. "My mother, before she died, left a wish that she especially hoped I would marry him. I think my mother will finally be able to rest in peace in the afterlife..."
"Is it that ’Mr. Perfect’ of yours? Are you sure it was your mother who wanted you to marry him, or is it you who wants to marry him?"
"Of course, it’s my wish too. I love him very much. And besides, with my mother’s dying wish, I absolutely have to marry him."
Absolutely must! What in this world is an ’absolutely must’?
"Miss, how many people have you been in love with?"
"I have only been in love with him."
"And you’re sure he’s so worthy of your affection?"
"Of course. He’s a good, trustworthy man. He’s responsible and sincere, and he’s the person who treats me best in this world. None of the men I know can compare to him..."
A cold sneer.
"How many men have you even known? Miss, don’t you think that’s a rather sweeping statement?"
She was still full of excitement. That strange guy just loved to argue for the sake of it.
"Oh, by the way, remember that oafish, portly guy? He came looking for trouble with me today. I was terrified..."
"He threatened you?"
"Yeah! He actually said I committed fraud with the contract signing and threatened to sue me for embezzling state assets! My god! That contract is perfectly legitimate and legal. How on earth could it be embezzlement of state assets?"
"TSK, and you believe him? That’s just a scare tactic. It’s nothing. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that contract. But, Miss, would you like me to help you take care of this for good?"
