CHAPTER 575: CHAPTER 559 TWO PATIENTS

He used the remote on the keyring to unlock the car door, and they slipped into the sedan.

"Get down on the floor."

He said, pressing his hand on the back of her head, urging her to follow orders.

She crouched on the floor of the back seat of the sedan.

The young boy had already obediently folded himself into the gap between seats, protecting his little head, sticking his butt out like a tiny ostrich.

Jiang Xiaoxiao held Ziluo tightly; the girl’s breath was rapid, her gaze unfocused—clearly, her heart condition had already struck.

He started the engine, pressing the garage door opener on the remote.

The garage door rose upward, and the ceiling lights automatically switched on.

He glanced at her, smiled slightly, then shifted the car into first gear.

He slammed down the accelerator, and the car silently surged forward.

The first gunshot shattered the car window above her head, scattering glass inside the vehicle.

She stifled a scream, raised her arm to protect her head, instinctively shielding Ziluo, whose breath was barely there, looking worse and worse, lips turning purplish.

The second shot pierced the front door and the seat back just a few centimeters away from Song Moting’s arm.

Jiang Xiaoxiao was shocked but more concerned about Ziluo.

"Ziluo is almost gone."

Song Moting floored the accelerator, smoothly shifting gears to speed up.

"Get down."

He said, narrowly dodging the third shot that shattered the driver’s seat window.

He drove the car headlong towards the double iron gate in the fence.

She had no time to prepare for the impact, crashing into the front seat amidst the screams of metal, shattering glass, and continuous shots from an automatic weapon.

One of the iron gates had already fallen off, collapsing with half of it pressing on the hood.

"Are you okay?"

Song Moting shouted while shifting gears to reverse.

The iron gate spun around and slid to the ground.

He shifted gears again, and the car charged forward once more, rolling over the iron gate with a piercing metallic sound.

They burst out.

"I’m fine, keep your eyes on the road, it’s Ziluo who’s in trouble."

Jiang Xiaoxiao watched Ziluo fall unconscious.

This child couldn’t hold on any longer; if it weren’t for Mu Shaocheng’s selfishness, she could’ve been safely recovering by now, but instead, she had to suffer such a plight.

Jiang Xiaoxiao glanced at the little boy, only able to see his round little bottom.

Jiang Xiaoxiao took out peach juice and poured it into Ziluo’s mouth.

Amidst the sound of impact, Jiang Xiaoxiao’s hand trembled, spilling peach juice on the car carpet.

Fortunately, it was just regular peach juice.

Seeing Ziluo breathing steadily, Jiang Xiaoxiao felt relieved.

The car didn’t drive as smoothly as before; it staggered, jerking and intermittently stopping.

Apparently, the engine was hit by a bullet, but at least they had left the villa area.

"We have to ditch the car."

Song Moting said, looking back.

Only a broken metal frame remained of the rearview mirror, and the mirror had long since shattered into pieces scattered on the ground.

Two cars sped past them, a simple gesture made Song Moting feel at ease.

But he didn’t recognize the person, yet he used their usual terminology.

Song Moting was suspicious.

Had Jin Dachuan brought people?

But why had he not contacted him?

"We’re carrying two kids now."

Jiang Xiaoxiao wanted to moan, carrying a child with an oxygen tank and another little rascal—it’s as if heaven is against them.

She peered out from above the tattered seat.

The brightly lit villa, from a distance, looked like a tiny city.

She saw evenly spaced, paired beams of light now becoming numerous car headlights.

"They’re catching up."

She said.

They rounded a bend, a dense forest causing the villa to disappear from view.

He drove the car off the road, slowing down as they entered the small wooded area.

The car jolted over branches and rocks; he didn’t brake lest the brake lights illuminate.

Once they got far enough from the road, where the body wouldn’t reflect any approaching headlights, he stopped and turned off the engine.

They sat in silence, listening to what seemed like gunfire from the pursuers’ vehicles.

"What now?" Jiang Xiaoxiao asked.

"Let’s go; someone will meet us three kilometers ahead."

He used the barrel of his gun to break the car’s lamps and bulbs, to prevent the light from revealing their position when the door opened.

She cautiously crawled up from the floor.

Her hair, shoulders, and the seat were coated with shattered glass.

The forest was dark.

The car door on her side wouldn’t open, possibly because the lock was hit by a bullet.

Luckily, Song Moting took over the task, damaging the lock, and took Ziluo.

Ziluo was still unconscious, even though the peach juice was in her system, it needed time to take effect.

Jiang Xiaoxiao carried the little boy out, setting him on the ground, "Shake it off."

They bent down, shaking off the glass fragments caught in their hair and on their bodies.

Her arms and shoulders ached slightly, but she carefully checked to make sure she wasn’t bleeding.

It was quite a miracle they were alive, and even more so for not having been cut by the glass.

Once her eyes adjusted better to the darkness, she noticed Song Moting had one side of his face darker.

Her heart sank.

"You’ve been shot."

She tried to sound calm.

He couldn’t have been shot; his well-being was crucial to their survival.

"Not shot, just scratched by glass."

He sounded very annoyed.

Running in the dark forest was dangerous; a misstep could twist an ankle or even break a bone, so they cautiously crossed the forest away from the road, stopping occasionally to listen for any pursuers.

The sounds from the road grew more distant, although Mu Chen’s men would probably catch up soon.

They emerged from the forest onto a secondary road.

A loud explosion frightened them.

Being out of the forest, she could see his head still bleeding.

His clothes were dirty and torn, and hers were no better.

She tried to adjust her steps to make her feet more comfortable, focusing her mind on the present.

The little boy suddenly fell, and Jiang Xiaoxiao nervously checked him.

"There’s a car."

He said, grabbing her arm while holding the child, stepping off the road.

"Get down!"

The car’s headlights rushed towards them in the darkness.

She lay down in the grass, Song Moting lying with the child between her and the road.

The car roared past.

They slowly sat up.

Jiang Xiaoxiao checked the little boy; glass fragments had cut his arm, yet the child hadn’t uttered a sound.

He fainted from excessive blood loss.

Poured peach juice down his throat.

Jiang Xiaoxiao worriedly looked at Song Moting, "What do we do now? We can’t go far with two kids."

Both were now critically ill.

Song Moting picked up Ziluo, leaving Jiang Xiaoxiao to carry the chubby boy.

"Three kilometers, we have to walk it; I don’t know if Mu Feng has dealt with Mu Chen yet; we’re not safe."

He pushed Jiang Xiaoxiao forward.

Jiang Xiaoxiao gritted her teeth and matched his pace.

Song Moting was right.

They weren’t safe yet.

Everything was still uncertain.

The child in her arms unconsciously placed his hand on Jiang Xiaoxiao’s neck, the warm breath making Jiang Xiaoxiao miss her own Tang Yuan.

This life-and-death escape made her cherish life more and treasure the happiness with her family.

She hoped it would end soon.
